Interesting company. It seems they test things. One area is car parts, additives, etc...I think. I googled for 15 minutes to try to find out exactly what they did with a car but couldn't find anything specific.

Yes they took out my fog lamps and took lots of measurements. Never knew anything was done to it. It most likely was put back together better than before. LOL

Sure wish we had something like that in our area. It sounds interesting and lucrative.

Allowing someone to mess with your car other than repairs could void your warranty and mess up your insurance.
I would never let someone do whatever they needed to for "tests". Not worth what'd I be out if the insurance was cancelled or my warranty gone.

What if it was used for an illegal purpose? Do they pay if it's in a wreck?

No, it is legal and legit. It is a operating company and not on the sly. They don't drive it, I don't believe so and even if they did my insurance would cover it. I don't have a warranty on my car so that is not an issue.

My guess is they are taking measurements for after market parts. There is an aftermarket motorcycle parts company in CA that does the same thing.

Ah-ha. I was wondering why on earth anyone would pay someone to measure their fog lights. So, what they're doing is getting the specs to make parts for auto supply stores to sell? The dealer would charge much more for an add-on extra.

I'm sure if you read your policy you will find that your auto is not covered if you rent it out to another individual or a company. Even if your policy covers other drivers, once you contract with someone the situation changes.

It does not matter that they are not driving it around town. They have to move it after you drop it off. Someone else could crash into it. Fire. Flood. Vandals. Something could happen at their place of business or one of their employees could do something wrong. If it was found that you rented your car out I think your insurance would not cover it.

They say on the website that they have their own insurance to cover the cars they test. I would ask to see their policy.

Dilly is correct in that you need to read your policy. Look under exclusions for all coverages.
They can put up a sign saying anything they want. Providing insurance doesn't say for what or how or by who? I'm sure you signed a contract with them. You need to read it.
You are using your vehicle differently than what you purchased insurance for that alone can void an insurance contract.

There's something wrong with this picture. They paid $450 to borrow your car for a day, to simply take some measurements? That doesn't make sense--they could rent the same model for a WHOLE LOT LESS.

And yes, you have no doubt filled out a questionaire for your insurance company stating how you use your car. Insurance companies often deny claims for NO REASON--give them a hint of one (using your car for a different purpose than you pledged to them)--well, I wouldn't want to try to get them to pay a claim at that point.

And how many times do you hear about someone leaving their car at a service station for work, and one of the employees takes it out for a joy ride, or to commit a crime. I try to limit letting others I don't know well having that temptation in front of them.

So bottom line for me--no, there's no way I'd participate in this scam--I mean scheme. Just sounds fraught with issues that could become detrimental very quickly. Now, if someone wanted to pay me to bring my car to them, and stand there for 5-10 minutes while they quickly measured (no dismantling) something--I might consider that. But leave it with strangers for no good reason--couldn't do that.

Sounds wierd to me, I'd never participate in this. You have no idea what they really did to the car once you left.

While what they are doing with your car may be above board, I couldn't do it, I rely on my vehicle way too much for my job and if something happened to it I'd be seriously stressed.
At the beginning of last year I was without a vehicle for 3 months - it was a nightmare. As some of you know I manage apartment buildings, 4 of them. I spend alot of my day driving from one to the other and back and downtown to my head office and back, feel like a yo-yo most days. When I was without a vehicle, I walked to my other buildings or took the bus. Worked out okay, but wouldn't want to do it on a regular basis, although I did get lots of excercise...lol.
There's another company around that sets up car pool type situations, where other people rent your car for the day or for a few hours...couldn't do that either.

Intertek is a perfectly legitimate company.

They need cars (and other items) from consumers for their testing. The testing is often done to check on quality control and safety issues.

A few years ago, my friend was paid so they could check out her baby crib. She's also been called about her high chair.

The testing needs to be done on products that have been purchased and not furnished to them by the manufacturer.
