These are not mine, but all here in ND.

What a mess is all I can say!

We have so many local farmers that are probably not going to be harvesting their corn now from what I understand! Lots of it out there too. Today is open day of deer season. Its going to make some awful hard work walking cross country in this, going to make it hard for the deer too I imagine.

Yikes...I bet your thankful this all held off till after the wedding...

Wouldn't that have been a mess...

I'm not ready for that stuff yet.

I so enjoyed the past couple of weeks in the 70's

It's 30 out there today.

Dax and treeguy, I like long needles also. I grew up playing in Ponderosa Pine woods in Eastern Washington State. There is one small drawback in the landscape however. The needles fall into the shrubs under the tree and hang up, looking pretty bad. Here is an example in my garden. Guess the Vine Maple has to go. Darn! Space is valuble even on my acreage.

David...I knew that ladder looked familiar. :-) My DD went through a phase when she was fascinated with infomercials and everytime you would go by the TV she would have another one on. I remember seeing one of those ladders and always wanting one. I bet you get a lot of use out of it! I just went over and looked at what Amazon is advertising and the only 17ft ladder they had was the one linked below. So you are happy with yours? Do you find that you use it a lot, or is it one of those things that you keep doing things the way you have always done them and forget to use it? raynag, we are very very far away from the finish line... it took me awhile to select a 30" cooktop b/c of the front control issue, looked @ KA, and FCI cooktops. others I wanted to steer away from ie:jennair,thermador...when I read this forum I was very excited b/c this product satisfied my requirements and I have your pics and inputs to thank for!thank you thank you!!! I did select the 27" frigidaire wall oven (had to do 27" due to our tiny kitchen )which also will be below the cooktop. our fridge is liebherr b/c it's 24" width, & I did not like the LG. the cabinets we initially wanted to go w/IKEA beech but our corner base cab is challenging so we decided to go with the diamond(lowe's) line. i'm still tweaking the upper cabinets,some of it will be frosted glass front. the flooring more than likely ceramic tile( i know it'll be hard on our knees and feet) but I'll just wear my comfy crocks :) countertop either marble or granite, DH leaning toward marble, and backsplash sparkly glass tile. we are also doing the undercounter d/w deal(every inch counts with a tiny kitchen) and then of course the LIGHTING...only requirements make it bright like an operating room. or las vegas. no shadows... Thanks for your input re: the appliance store. I was thinking of ordering it from us appliance, I like the fact that via web no taxes. I'll have to compare it versus local dealer. and I'm going to look @ your zephyr tamburo hood. I said to someone the other day, renovating a kitchen is like planning a wedding, whether it's for 20 people or 200 it's all the same.

The houses have to be constructed for heavier than normal snow loads. Those that are not, do not last long and are eliminated from the landscape - someting about survival of the fittest. You do have to be concerned about ventilation for yourself and the furnace. You must be willing to wield the shovel. However, snow banked around the walls protects from wind, adds insulation, and makes it easier to heat the place. Its cozy. The downside is living in a snow cave. So, what do you use for emergency conveyance? Snowmobilies! That's why they were invented. One of the first snowmachines was a converted Model T Ford. A story about that contraption says that a father lost a sick girl after a snowstorm because he could not get her to town for medical attention. Had he been able to do so, she would have survived. He vowed to make a machine that could conquer snowy roads. He used his Model T to make such a machine. I do recall that a number of years ago when Bufallo, NY got hit with a large amount of snow, the radio and TV stations were warning the population that when they ventured downtown, do not touch the elecrical connections on the traffic lights! The snow pack was deep enough to elevate pedestrans up to where they could touch the traffic lights.

Thanks for these photos. It is easy for me to say how lovely it looks because I don't have to live in it. Going to work and carrying out normal daily routines (not to mention cleaning up the mess from family and pets in and out of the house) must be a real pain at times but there must be lots of magic about it also. I cannot send you any sunshine from West Aus today. Our summer is dragging its feet this year and we are having very grey days with drizzling rain. On the plus side, the countryside is so green and beautiful - not brown and dried out like it will be soon. Beth

I don't have a clue what life would be like living it Nd, but it is beautiful. It was 80 here today in south Ga. We are sick of hot weather. Please send all the snow pictures you have.

Like Ronm said...we like looking at it and occasionally playing in one or two inches but WHOA...that is a whole bunch of snow and it sure seems early for ya'll!! I hope it's gone for you quick...growing up in the north I remember the drudge of having to get out and function in it...it is no picnic!

I now live here in the Mid-Atlantic area and really got a kick out of any snow warnings. I'm originally from Michigan. The whole place goes crazy. When I was stationed at the Pentagon I got a call one day saying not to come in as we had a snow warning. ??? Never heard of that before. Called my mom and she couldn't believe everything shut down for 2 inches of snow.

I remember school closing only once, in my senior year, when we had an official white out blizzard. But guess what - the next day it was back to school.

And what's with the run on toilet paper, bread and milk? Never could figure that one out.

I love seeing the pictures but it does make me cold....I also hate to think that might be headed our way....Florida is looking better and better...

Pretty pictures Connie. I'm glad I'm looking at them on the screen rather than through the window.

Minnie my dh was stationed at Minot in the late 1950s.

When we get a weather forecast that has a slight chance of snow the grocery stores immediately are sold out of milk and bread. It's pretty funny. We don't have enough snow in our area to have snow plows and such to clear the streets when it does snow, but crews do go out and put salt on the bridges and over passes.

beautiful pictures. usually i look forward to snow espescially christmas and taking my neices sledding..but even i am not looking forward to it..and my brother whos a snowmobile maniac doesnt want it this year. yes my brother hunts, but notbad, when we log a lot the coy dogs will chqase a deer until its so tired it cant run, so even though we hunt we also cut down trees so they have food and run the skidder around so they have paths to get to the food and we can scare off the dogs, i know its a double edged sword but my dad cant stand to see a deer being chased when it doesnt have a chance. dont flame me for that but where i live coy dogs are a MAJOR problem.
