My DD gets up about 4am to go. They have giveaways and she
has gotten free gift certificates. She's not really shopping
that day but likes to see what's on sale.

I'd rather have a root canal.

I would only go if someone else was doing the driving. Crowded parking lots really stress me out for some reason.

I'm with Oldgardener,,,,,without novocaine! I worked at a jewelry store in the mall for a few years, it was brutal being there. No way I would even think about shopping.

I'd rather pay 6 times the price that get into that madhouse.

DH and I try to make that day a nice 'for us' kind of day. We go out and do something not shopping related, maybe go someplace nice for lunch, etc. Except that the past few years, DH has had to work that day--and since it's a holiday, it's 2.5 pay, so it's hard to give up.

I enjoy going to the mall the day after Thanksgiving, to look at the decorations and have lunch - but not for bargain shopping.
I don't believe in bargain hunting for gifts...rather cheesy.

I never did, but now that I'm in a small town, where 25-30 people is a BIG group when waiting to shop, I do like it. Gary an I have gone the last two years.

Monica, we are not shopping for gifts but for things we want. A couple years ago two of our daughters got themselves new laptops and I got a Roomba. However, I don't see any problem with anyone trying to save some money this day and age. We seldom buy gifts, they usually get money in our family.

I have so much fun with my shopping friends. We get up really early and head over to Yonkers first, a couple more places before stopping for breakfast. We start the night before, well, weeks before for some things but usually we will sum up our plans the night before and stock up on every day items as we Christmas shop. We find great hygiene deals at CVS, love Walgreens, Shopko and Target. CVS has wonderful get it free items, Shopko is usually pretty open by 1 pm and Target has some great kids things BUT we don't go THERE early because of the rush.

We enjoy the places with free coffee and treats. Thankfully, Over the years we have gotten really good at NOT buying just because it's a deal. If we have a purpose for the item right now (or near future) then we purchase. I love the buy it/ get it free credit slips at CVS and Walgreens. In the future when my kids leave the nest these items won't be so desirable. It really helps the Christmas budget now.

If it wasn't fun, we wouldn't go. It's agreed, no massive lines that take hours. We refuse to stand in a line that loops around a store. No rushing the front door crowds. No dragging each other around the city for the elusive reading lamp for granny. That wouldn't be our cup of tea.
Now I hope I can go this year!

The Kenmore elite washer and dryer I've had my eye on is going on sale the day after black Friday. I'll be saving over $2000.00 by waiting until that day. So excited to have a quite washer! A purple front loader..love it already.

We had a girls tradition for years with me, my 2 sisters and our mom. Every year. It was crazy, insane fun. We would leave at 6 am and get home at 1 am I'm not kidding, lol. 1 am was our record. But we all also had young kids to shop for at the time.

We quit doing it for awhile after mom died. Just couldn't bring ourselves to do it. Then prob 5 years ago we started again, now our daughters go also. Very seldom can everyone make it, and some of the grown daughters just aren't into it. So we all spend the evening together after we get home.

We go just to spend the day together, decide where we are going to eat and then are usually back by 4 or 5. Sometimes we even buy something, haha. It's more to just spend time together laughing, always laughing, and having fun.

Only online. Every year the Black Friday online deals get better.

I'd go if I had someone to go with. I went once - got to Walmart at 5:00 for something or other - and thought it was fun. No one I know wants to go, though, and it doesn't seem like much fun to go alone.

I'll get in line for my root canal too. The few times I've tried to shop that day, I've fought pushy crowds, only to get there just after they sold out of the really good bargains. Ugh. Not worth it.

I do Thanksgiving every year. We have a formal, old fashioned Thanksgiving meal with all the trimmings (good china, crystal, sterling, Mom's silver and crystal serving accessories, banquet cloth I crocheted, etc.) at the regular dinner hour. Usually we have the kids and their family/SO as houseguests, so I never go shopping on Black Friday. I also usually have lots of things still to do, such as washing the table linens, feeding everyone, etc.

However, I do my Christmas shopping after 9pm during the first two weeks of holiday hours before others have discovered how quiet and easy it is to shop till 11pm.

The times I have gone - I had specific items in mind and was out of there within the hour. Had fun, but probably won't be doing it again.

Personally, I'm over the crass consumerism of Christmas.

I have a Black Friday tradition with several friends. We go out for breakfast, followed by a movie and maybe a quick stop at Chico's. No big crowds or lines. It's great fun. I just picked up some nighties and slippers today for the girls, don't know what I will get the guys, and everyone gets a check. It's too costly to mail things today so I let them do their own shopping.

Cheesy to bargain hunt for gifts???? To me that means the person gets MORE or better presents. I have a set amount I spend on each family member. Sometimes these Black Friday items mean that something I ordinarily wouldn't buy because of price fits into the budget. I hate shopping on this day, but I love the added value to my family member(s) so I'll be out there. Not looking forward to it, though..

Not me!! After Christmas or January, Yeah! I do most of next year's Christmas then, not after Thanksgiving. I think better sales are on after Christmas and in January, but that is my opinion only.

I did it twice and probably not again....1st time, DD picked me up early, no makeup etc. (no one will see you)...We get to the store and every neighbor was there and as we rounded the aisle, a local newpaper took our pictures which just happen to be on the front page of the afternoon paper.....

The other time, I was in Chicago with DD and DGDs at a dance competition...Sure enough, the day after, we all go downtown Chicago shopping....Now a good time to sightsee!

After an enjoyable Thanksgiving Day, the last thing I want to do is get in my car, fight traffic, find a parking spot, then fight crowds of peple for a "bargain". Yuck! I think I'll stay home and clean up after Thanksgiving and enjoy some leftovers.

Some of my family members and I go usually every year. Not even for the shopping because none of us like to shop. We think it is just fun to see how other people act and visit with other shoppers and friends.
