ideas for a new-mom gift?

I have my eye on a couple of things from a baby-gift registry, but I'd also really like to get something little for the mom, not expensive, maybe $20 or so.

She's been my dogwalker and provider of my dog's overnight accommodations for years, but I don't know much at all about her personal preferences, so a lot of girly stuff -- bubble bath, fragrances -- would be hard to select.

I've given her Starbucks gift cards for the holidays, as well as a restaurant gift card with 2 movie tickets so she and her husband could have a date night (long ago), but their date nights out will probably be few and far between for a while.

Help me think outside the box!

You could purchase a small baby item (board book, toy, baby lotion) and give with a $20 gift certificate from Target. The gift cards are so handy for wipes, diapers, etc. I did that recently when the daughter of an acquaintance had a baby.

I really like the round bed also. You did a fantastic job and it already looks great. I have seen those fancy edgers at home depot that you used but you must be more ambitious than I am because I figgured they would be lots of work to get done. Plus those things weigh a ton LOL! All the daylilies look great but I like APACHE WAR DANCE the very best.

The broom is to sweep the threshold of the new home to clean out any remnants of former owners, the wine (mead, or honey in some cultures) was to introduce celebrations into the home (ie: children ;-), the bread, that the couple would be able to provide for themselves, and the salt to flavour their lives together. I also heard of burying a closed safety pin either in the ground before the main entrance (or where most people would enter), or attaching it under the entrance carpet to keep 'prickly' people, gossips, bad news, etc from entering their home. Hope that helps....BTW: if an old broom has been left behind by the former owners, it must be disposed of.;-)

A gift card to a salon or spa that she can use toward a massage, facial, manicure, etc.

A gift card is a great idea. You might want to check out the reviews people have written for various sellers of gift cards, they differ in various customer service aspects such as returns and so on.

A gift card is a nice idea. Maybe find out if she goes to a particular salon and get one from there.

I also think bringing over dinner is a big help and making sure enough for left overs. I recently did that for a new mom and she couldn't have been happier.

I saw the sweetest book the other day at a gift store and when I looked on line to link it here, I see that it is available for a much cheaper price from Wal-mart.

A simple cake would be nice, if you know what flavor. Stick a tub of Ice Cream in the bag too.
Gift card should be Mastercard, then it's the recipients choice.

Make meals! It's so helpful to have a few meals in the freezer for those days when you're just exhausted from being up all night with a new born! If you don't cook, get a few different gift cards for pizza delivery or some other meal to be delivered.

My daughter and daughter in law both have infants and the coolest thing that they wanted were teething mittens. They work well for babies that are old enough to be teething but not old enough to have the hand eye coordination to hold a traditional teether.

Amazon has them right in your price bracket.

It was a huge hit with my nephews (early 20s) when I gave them both Google Play gift cards. Who knew?

I remember when I became a new mom it was hard to keep up appearances with baby slobber and peanut butter in my hair. My sister gave me a gift certificate to a hair salon and offered to baby sit for me. It was wonderful. I didn't take her up on the babysitting but when I finally had time to go get it cut, I was able to wash away the grossness of being fat, bloated, sick, queasy from pregnancy. And said goodbye to the slobbery clothes and tangled long hair (my baby always pulled it.) I felt human. I got an easy to style, let it go hairdo. It was great.
