TIDE detergent - popular item for thieves to steal. Really.
Comments (5)I saw this on the Today show this morning. When they gave the teaser, I thought it was going to be a story about how they used Tide to make drugs, much like the cold medications that I now have to sign my life away to buy. It's really strange. How did they discover there was a market for this? I guess now Tide will be even more expensive to cover for the theft....See MoreIs grout really "so much better" (resistant to mold) these days?
Comments (10)I have epoxy white grout in my shower and I wipe the walls down after each days worth of showers. Usually just me though. I have not had to "clean" my shower, (except the shower pan, which is cast iron) in a year. I have "cleaned" my shower probably 3 times in 5 years (except of course for the floor, which I don't wipe down after showers). I use a large auto detailing microfiber towel, one layer thick. It dries with in 12 hours. I always use a vent fan. I have enough space under my room door to account for makeup air so the vent can work. Drying all the walls and caulking has worked for years for me. In my 3x5' shower with glass doors, it takes 70 seconds to wipe it all down along with the fixtures....See MoreAre Custom Cabinets really that much better than Lowe’s?
Comments (15)If you can get the cabinet configuration you want with stock cabinets rather than using custom, then you only need to determine whether the inherent differences between the two lines matter to you. Typically more expensive lines have better, more durable finishes which is particularly important for slab painted doors. Also look at the construction details. Do the less expensive cabinets have full extension quality drawer glides, soft close drawers and doors, thick shelves, strongly constructed drawer boxes etc? Are these things worth paying double, for you? How long do you hope to live in your house with your new kitchen? (ie. will you be moving before the less expensive line begins to show signs of wear?). It might help if you can take home sample doors and compare them. Also, cheap plywood is not as good as quality MDF so don't be lured by the promise of "all wood". One last thing, If you're doing slab doors with full overlay, consider looking at frameless construction. You'll get lots more space in drawers and roll out trays with frameless....See MoreAre the newer rose really better than the slightly older ones?
Comments (6)Hi Ann, It is a matter of opinion, but I think that older roses (including many really historical ones) can actually be better than new ones. Why? Because people only keep growing the ones that have some excellent qualities, and the ones that are poor performers fall out of commerce. Now when we are talking about roses from 1990 -- there were surely some great roses bred around then, but some were not great. This will be the case even now, with new roses. Some will end up being great roses and others... not so much. One development in recent roses is that many consumers are sick of spraying chemicals on their plants, so there is a trend to breed healthier plants. In that sense, there are some roses from 2021 that will outperform most of the roses of the 90s. But there have always been some roses that are healthier than others! Of course some of the folks who market roses want us to think that the newest roses are better than the older ones -- that way they can convince people to rip out their old plants in favor of the new ones they want to sell. My suggestion would be to look at specific varieties -- you can search for them here on this forum -- and see what sort of reputation they have. Some roses will have a great reputation and will do beautifully in your area regardless of the date they were bred. For example, here in Seattle Julia Child (2004), Lady Hillingdon (1910), and Paul Ricault (1845) all do really well....See MoreLuAnn_in_PA
