This will be the fourth year that I haven't served turkey.

I can't stand the smell and feeling of the raw turkey, I have tried using rubber gloves to clean the bird and I still gag. I then cook the darn thing and end up pitching most of the meat cause no one will eat the left overs.

I'm having Prime Rib with twice baked potato's and sides to go with it.

Haven't had meat in 12 years so it's Quorn Turk'y Roast for me! I also make a mushroom gravy, mashed potatoes, stuffing and a lot of vegetable dishes.

I hate shopping around Thanksgiving though. I feel so bad for all the little turkeys!

One year DH and I had no turkey, we went out for Chinese food, just like in the movie "A Christmas Story." Too depressing to go into details how it happened.

When I had family for Thanksgiving we always smoked a turkey.
Now it's just me, so I get a puff pastry from Fresh Market.

oneof the more memorable tg we had was spent on the side of camelback mt in phoenix...uncle bbq, but can't remember what, lol...it was back in the 60's so not as much smog as they have now, so deep blue skies and endless sun, but do remember it wasn't hot...my poor dad was a little lost with a tiny b/w sony portable tv trying to watch football, his one joy...

we did it again in 72, easy to remember as dd1 was a baby and sick..then we all got a 24 hr bug...she was just 6 mos...

we are doing our own dinner (t word) and have already bought it...just the 2 of us and 3 of the 4 kids are with inlaws, and dd2 will comeover dfor dessert and leftovers...she hates her mil's cooking, but mil insists on it at her place...

i've gotten so i don't mind the alone time...we eat when we want or not as the case may be...don't dress til the kids come for dessert...

chi83, that's what we're having too!!!! Quorn turk'y roast is soooo much yummier than the tofurkeys or any other brand I've tried.

Not sure about all our side dishes yet...need to get together with my sisters and friends about all of that stuff.

When we used to have our Thanksgiving in Oct, (Canadian Thanksgiving) our late son, Brian always did the bird on the grill. Soooo good!!. It's the only way I really like turkey. We are going to son Scott's for the bird-day. I'll just make a couple sides to bring. If we were staying home, it would be ham or pork loin.

We have to have turkey, one exchange student has never had it before and well, it just wouldn't be Thanksgiving without it. I just bought a turkey fryer on-line, waiting for it to come. Lauren keeps making comments that my turkey is dry, and both my kids prefer ham but I love turkey.

No turkey here, started having seafood about 10 years ago on Thanksgiving, and family loved the idea of the change and wants to continue with seafood. We live on the coast so everything is fresh. We still have turkey and dressing and all the sides at different times of the year.

Chi83~Jennmonkey where do you buy the Quorn turk'y roast??? My DD2 is going vegan and I am sure she would like that she is doing an orphan dinner for her pals.

I can get it in my local Shaws (look for the health food freezer section), but Whole Foods usually has it in the freezer area. Here's a link to the website and there's a store locator on the page so you could look up your area.

It's a great taste and texture but I think it's best with a vegan gravy added to give it more flavor.

One note - if she's vegetarian, it's fine but if she's vegan, depending on how strict she is, it might not be appropriate since it has egg whites.

Hubby loves Cornish Game Hen, which I fix once in a blue moon. We had it last year and it was pretty good. Probably do it again this year.

We had 3 thanksgivings last year: the eveningbefore, we took family and friends out for a big restaurant dinner--not turkey, but delicious. Thanksgiving day, went to a little Mom&Pop's buffet - which had wonderful home-made dinner rolls. Then Friday after, I did the game hens. We must've gained 10 lbs!!!

I don't think I wanna do all that again this year. Took me a week to enjoy food again - LOL

I won the battle this year and we had (Canadian Thanksgiving in October) Pork Tenderloin grilled on the Bar B Q. Mashed potatoes, Succatash,salads and sweet potato pie. It was wonderful. We had a very warm Thanksgiving so we ate out on the deck. It was nice to that last family outdoor meal for the year.

Lunchlady, like chi83 said, the Quorn brand is vegetarian but NOT vegan. A strict vegan would absolutely not eat it. But Tofurkey products are vegan, and while I don't think it's quite as good, it could be spiced up with a good vegan gravy.

These, and other brands would be found in any health food store or like chi said, Whole Foods. A lot of mainstream grocery stores now have a section of fake meat, usually one in the freezer aisle (where they would have breakfast "sausages", gardenburgers, etc), and one section that has the fake hot dogs and sandwich "meats".

The tofurkey products would be in the freezer section.

My DM had decided that since DF passed this year we would have a scaled down Thanksgiving with no turkey. Then my Older DB decided that the younger bro. (and family) would drive DM to Phoenix, AZ so they could all have the four-day weekend together. My DM's cousin, who usually has dinner at DM's table, received an invitation to dinner with some of the other family. It appears that it will just be DH & I so there is no need for a big turkey here either. l.marie

No turkey for us either. Friends are joining us and she loves the stuffed cabbage rolls my hubby makes, so that is what we are having.

We're still having turkey but this will be the first year my husband is making it (because he retired and volunteered!) I'm tempted to go over to Ciele's though, for the prime rib, yum-yum. Have a nice holiday!

If I eat at home I'll probably have ribs, ham or pot roast, but I haven't decided. I might just go to the "Squat & Gobble" and pig out at the hog trough.

Not having a dinner....ohhh, poor me! Only kidding it's my choice and I am happy with it.
