Great recipe accident!

Last night I was making some pasta with sausage, mushrooms and onions.

I was going to throw in a can of mushroom soup, but was out.

I did have a container of Campbells Kettle style mushroom bisque. I never tried it before, but throwing caution to the wind I dumped the whole container.

Oh my goodness! That was a hit for dinner. I think I might use that soup to make an easy chicken marsala this weekend.

I've never seen that product! I should start opening my eyes while in the grocery store! lol

Improvising makes the best meals. My dh is always leery when I follow a recipe; he likes my "experiments" much better!

I have never seen it either and I just recently went down the soup aisle with much care looking for cream of onion soup which some stores carry some don't and I would have seen that for sure. Maybe it is just a test product in certain regions.
What state are you in?
that is not a refrigerated product is it? It looks like the kind of container that you can heat right in the microwave?

Thanks Marie. Anything with maple syrup in it has to be good. Per your request, this is from "So Easy to Preserve," Spicy Cranberry Salsa 6 cups chopped red onion 4 finely chopped large serrano peppers 1 1/2 cups water 1 1/2 cups cider vinegar 5% acidity 1 T. canning salt 1 1/3 cups sugar 6 T. clover honey 12 cups ( approx. 2 3/4 cups)rinsed whole fresh cranberries Wash and rinse six pint canning jars, keep hot until ready to use. Prepare lids according to manufacturers directions. Combine all ingredients except cranberries in a large Dutch oven or saucepan. Bring to a boil over high heat, reduce heat slightly and boil gently for 5 minutes. Add cranberries, reduce heat, slightly and simmer for 20 minutes.Stir occasionally to prevent scorching. Pour into jars, leave 1/4 inch headspace. Leave saucepot over low heat while filling jars. Remove air bubbles, adjust headspace if needed. Seal with lids, process in water bath canner for 10 minutes. Remove jars from canner and allow to cool undisturbed for 12-24 hours and check for seals. I haven't tried this Cranberry Salsa, though it sounds great. If you do make it, let us know how it turns out. Tucker, the rule of thumb for jellied fruit products is 1 added minute per every additional 1000 feet, so another 5 minutes will definitely do it. My DD used to use the corn bread mix to make this casserole when we had a houseful of hungry teens to feed: CORN DOG CASSEROLE (12 servings) 1 cup thinly sliced celery 1 1/2 cups chopped onions 3 Tbs. butter or margarine 1 1/2 lbs. hot dogs 2 eggs 1 1/2 cups milk 1/2 tsp. sage or poultry seasoning (I only use 1/4 tsp.) 1/4 tsp. pepper 2 packages (8 Â½ oz. each) corn bread/muffin mix 2 cups (8 oz.) shredded cheddar cheese, divided In a skillet, saute celery and onion in butter or margarine over med-low heat until soft but not browned. Place in bowl; set aside. Cut hot dogs lengthwise into quarters, then cut into thirds. In the same skillet, saute the hot dogs for 5 minutes or until lightly browned; add to vegetables. Set aside 1 cup of mixture. In a large bowl, combine eggs, milk, sage and pepper. Add the larger quantity of the hot dog mixture. Stir in corn bread mixes and 1 1/ 2 cups of cheese. Spread into a shallow greased 3 quart baking dish. Top with the 1 cup of reserved hot dog mixture and 1/ 2 cup of cheese. Bake, uncovered at 400 degrees for 30 minutes or until golden brown.

Joann...it wasn't really a recipe.

I just browned some sausage with onions and mushrooms and stirred in cooked penne and the soup.
I was going to add a little cheddar cheese, but stopped after I tasted the soup. It has a hint of wine flavor.
When I do it again, I will probably add some peas.

I am anxious to try some other kettle soups.
You do NOT heat in this container. It has to be tranferred to pot or bowl.
I am in PA.

Sounds good! My brother once made me a pumpkin pie. He used canned pumpkin and evaporated milk. It was sooo creamy and delicious. I once made fudge on the stove but it burned a little bit. Tasted great-like dark chocolate (bittersweet). Oh I love happy accidents!

I am glad your "accident" turned out so well. I did see those soups on the grocery shelves yesterday but did not buy any. I do like mushrooms but do not care for the cream of mushroom soups.

It says on their website so many people wanted to heat it in the container that they had to provide instructions on how to do that, directions are on the site I linked to.
