I read that quote years ago and have thought of it many times since. It really is true when it comes to a lot of aspects of housework.

Today I have to really focus my attention on decluttering the downstairs. It doesn't look awful (except for my desk, which is worse than awful), but a lot of surfaces have stuff on them that really needs to be removed before my party next week. And the cardboard boxes of stuff from the barn that I need to sort through and give away or sell don't add to the ambiance either.

So I woke up this morning thinking I'd be psyched to do this........if I knew where to put these things! Since I don't, my enthusiasm feels more like paralysis. :-)

Just thought I'd share this thought (as a means of procrastination). LOL

I know...The hard part is finding a place for everything and then getting it there. I've been hanging out at bit at The Organizing Forum, and trying to just let go of useless stuff I either have to dust or that is taking up valuable storage space.

Well I'm glad I'm not alone with my procrastination this morning.

I'm home alone all day and last night I thought it'd be a great idea to ....

1. clean out the guest bedroom
2. organize paperwork in anticipation of end of year accounting
3. check closets for charitable donations

So what have I completed this morning?

None of the above.

However I did clean out my inbox in both of my emails!

I am ashamed to admit that I just now added Plantaginea to my collection a few weeks ago! I was browsing through the shade houses at my local nursery, and spotted what they had LABELED as Plantaginea. Fortunately for me, they happened to be in bloom. Guess what, most of them DID NOT have the characteristic 6-inch white flowers (the flowers were 3-4 inches), but I spotted one that did. YAY! Other peeps would probably not know to look for that, but I did and so now I FINALLY have it. And over the last few weeks I have enjoyed the very LARGE fragrant blooms that do bloom in the evening. Oooooh, that scent is so heavenly... Ken, when I was at the nursery, I thought of you and that picture you post of the flowers lined up next to each other showing the relative size difference. I was dooped once before and bought what was labeled Plantaginea, but it was not in bloom. When it did finally bloom the next season, guess what, it wasn't Plantaginea. Doh! I should add, this is probably the 3rd season I've had Aphrodite, and it still won't bloom for me. It won't even send up scapes, stupid piece of carp. Bleh. Good thing I like the nice apple green, wide-veined leaves, otherwise I'd toss it to the curb. Hmmm, now that's a thought. I bet it would bloom if I did that. Go figure. Buff

If only I could have 1/3 of my granddaughters energy I would get so much done. We have our 2 granddaughters overnight every Tuesday. We take them to a fast food that has a playground for dinner in the winter. We get to relax and they get to burn off some energy. With summer coming we will be able to go to the playground or swimming at the lake. We are going to try fishing with them this summer, but I don't know how long that will last with a 3 and 5 year old.

Carol - Energy star makes some generalizations and some mistakes. Particularly when it comes to passive solar and window orientation. Don't feel you have to be ES certified unless you need to be for a rebate or house certification. There are 2 numbers to care about SHGC - which is the amount of heat gained through the window. A low number means good for reducing a/c. Means very little on a North facing window or appropriately shaded South window. U. factor. This is probably what you care about in Mass. This is the resistance to ambient heat flow. It is how cold the window would feel in the winter. It is minor in the summer. Yes Anderson charges a lot for their low u window. Do you have an energy rater to decide if it makes financial sense? $5000 extra on windows that should last 30+ years isn't a huge deal. Note that low u windows will make the temps in your house more stable in the winter since windows won't be robbing the heat. So it isn't just energy savings but comfort also. What I know about Mass. is energy costs are high and it gets cold. I hear shocking numbers on what people pay for heat. Down here in NC, different story and I couldn't come close to justifying low u windows. Not with heat pumps using $.10c a kwh electricity. Solar panels pay off decades faster.

I gave a lot of "stuff" to our Humane Society for their fall sale, and bought "stuff" there also. So yesterday they had a whopper of a sale of Christmas decor, etc. So I came home with more "stuff"!!

I will have to do so much organizing when I get back to Oklahoma, it is kinda scary.

I have to clean out my attic. It's either too hot or too cold. Tuesday it's going to be just right. I'm playing golf on Tuesday. LOL

I'm having the same problem with my office, which I'm trying to clear out because I'm giving it to Chloe as her bedroom. I have tons of enthusiasm, but can't figure out where to put everything. I don't have a clue where to start. (Well, I've already started, but I'm having trouble keeping going.)

This must be my pet peeve in life, that I hate doing any of that and always think I might need something, so I can't throw it/give it away. That would be one of my dreams to have organized closets, drawers, etc. but I'm married to a man that's as bad as I am. His New Year's resolution 4 years ago was to clean out the garage. It's a 3 car garage and only 1 will fit. When we die, our kids are gonna be so mad at us. LOL

LOL I've been up since 7:30 ... haven't done a blasted thing yet except play on the computer. I've been fussing about my craft room for weeks and REALLY need to get it sorted, organized and put away. But, here I am! Because like you, I don't know where I'm going to put all this stuff I can't get rid of.

Our daughter and son in law have been helping us clean out our garage. We are having him put up two new garage doors and openers and the shelving all has to come down and the big dog pen that takes up room, we have been working on it a few hours most every day. I have been doing the sorting. We have an attic but we have never put anything in it. It takes so much time and energy. Not my favorite thing to do.

My attic is useless. The opening to get there is right above my basement stairs. No way am I going to set a ladder on stairs.

Okay, okay. You shamed me. I didn't clean my attic but I defrosted and cleaned out the freezer in the garage. Then, while I was feeling ambitious, I even cleaned out the freezer in the kitchen. I swear, some of the stuff has been in there for three years!. Toss, toss, toss. It's a good feeling. Actually, I was looking for butter but didn't find it in either freezer so off to the grocery store.

I'll make you feel a little better, Vannie. We have a 3-car garage, and there's not enough room in it to fit even one car! Every time we organize stuff inside the house, boxes of stuff that we can't bear to part with go into the garage. Adding to the mess in the garage is all the stuff that we brought back here from a storage unit. (Sigh) It's a never-ending battle.

I cleaned my walk in closet this week and I took 1/3 to thrift store 1/3 to the trash .Now I do not have any clothes .What a great feeling need to do so much more.

What with so few couples having kids these days ...

... whacha think the possibility might be of some of you folks renting one of those redundant portables near a nearby school?

Actually ... I figure that I almost need one myself, in that there's more or less a track through my rooms to the next one.

But I have a garage, shed and a barn or two available ... so I guess I can pass on the portable.

ole joyful ... whose kids are going to be somewhat put out at him, one of these days
