Creative help needed...

Every year for Christmas I give the kids an ornament, I try to make it one that reflects something that represents something significant that happened that year, an interesting event, or an interest they have. DD#2 is getting a Santa in a fireman outfit (she's the one who's apartment building burned down) DIL is getting a door..they bought their first house..etc. DGD got glasses. I want to find her a pair of glasses for a christmas ornament. The only ones I've found so far are for "the Red Hat Society". Does anyone have any ideas where else I could find glasses for an ornament? Or to signify she got glasses (she may not be happy this year, but if the future it will be a great memory).

Try a hobby/craft store. I've seen small glasses for dolls, bears, etc.

Wow-you have some work ahead of you! I would definitely approach this in sections...one project would be built ins, one project just doors, next project trim etc so everything looks good in between projects. With summer approaching, who wants to be indoors painting every weekend. The shiny surfaces definitely need scuff sanded, thoroughly cleaned and rinsed with TSP, vacuumed and re-vacuumed and tack clothed. Doors and hinges need to be removed on the built ins. Your prep will take as much time as the fun painting part. Get a nice set up for painting the cabinet doors. Each side will need primed and 2 coats with a few hour dry time in between. The passageway doors can be done while hung. My favorite primer is STIX Bonding Primer. This stuff really sticks to everything. It has a 3 hour dry time. It is available at my BM store. As far as paint, I like BM Cabinet Coat or Advance. Hope you get some pros to chime in. Cleo (not a pro)

Yes, the porch walk in door there is 80” tall and the overhead garage doors are 96” tall. I have read too about the egress windows and that is definitely what I want to stay with, just trying to figure out how to get the roof lines tied together and still save the window height.

Yeah that looks to me to definitely be structural (the entire thing actually). It is basically in the exact same place as the wall to the left of the opening and doing the exact same thing which is holding up the front of your roof.

Is there a certain size you want? Is 'real size' OK? Or do you want tiny ones? You can get real reading glasses at the dollar stores. Or get cheap sunglasses. You could decorate them with sequins and ribbons and change out the lenses to look more like the ones in the link below.

I bought glasses for my DD's American Girl doll at Hobby Lobby. They have a doll section. These would be perfect ornament size. You could tie them on a ribbon for a neat simple ornament.

What I would do is look around the thrift stores and see if you can find a pair of older glasses like the Lucy style and redo them for your GrandDaughter - what are her favorite colors? You could paint them easily with acrylic paint, use one of her favorites for the main color and then polka dot the other color - or you could use buttons, bells, crystals, etc to decorate them up, tie a ribbon to them, you could even glue them closed/folded up so they hang up and down not out like a pair that you just took off your face)- you could glue pictures of her in the lense places...they would become a very personalized ornament that way.
If that doesn't float your boat, I would do as some of the other gals have suggested and look for doll sized or craft glasses (for Santa's etc).
