First Xmas Craft Sale

Had my first Xmas Craft Sale on Saturday, did not do very well, non of the crafters did.

I made cloth purses, every said they were very nice and well sewn.

I really don't know what people are looking for anymore at craft sales, people look but don't buy. Maybe the day of the craft sale is coming to an end.

I used to buy at craft sales alot, not so much now. I really do not go to many any more. One of my favorite ones has so much non hand crafted stuff that I am not interested in. For me, I just have enough stuff. I have done so much decluttering this year, I am really careful about not buying stuff.

Mindy et al, I got that tall blue pot I had my eye on. It might have been $200 marked down to 40 marked down to TEN DOLLARS. I also got a big metal/copper bucket marked down from at least 150 to $37.50 (I don't think she did the math right. I'll have to check in the morning. I had wanted something like a watering trough near the bees, and this might fill the bill. Or we can use it for logs. That magnificient green pot. I met the nice guy who works the floor. I told him what I wanted to pay for it and without my knowing it he called the ?manager? anyway a woman, and she no way was she going below $160. I think the problem is there was no pink marked down price, so it was 75 % off 699. I really don't want to pay that much because I know I won't move it in freezing weather, and it may break. I'm only willing to risk 100 or less. If anyone can talk them down to $100 or less, I'll take you to LaPatisserie for lunch or Quebrada in Arlington for a cake. Could also do Lakota for a dozen cookies. There's a challenge for the bargainers out there! I'll pay you back in cash and could even meet you at Mahoneys to load and transport pot. Mindy, I saw two "maroonish" pots (one upside down, the other on top) on the pallet, next to the sky blue tall. Are those the ones you are talking about? If there was a salmon pot in the "transition room" I missed it entirely. I'm not looking at your post right this second, but I thought you said it had some branches dispayed it it. I'll look again, maybe when I check to see if the christmas tree is marked down. I wasn't too offended by the look of its branches. But then I had pots on my mind. Marie

Have you seen the "mice" cookies made out of stemmed maraschino cherries dipped in chocolate with Hershey Kiss heads resting on half of an oreo cookie? They are soooo cute and everybody who sees them, raves about them. You take the top off of an Oreo cooke and save the white frosted part to use as the base. Dip a stemmed cherry in melted chocolate and lay on the white frosting with the stem facing backward like the tail of the mouse. Place a dab of chocolate on the base of the Hershey Kiss. Use 2 sliced almonds pressed into the chocolate as ears and press against the cherry. The base of the kiss goes against the cherry with the almonds in between as the ears. Use green frosting gel and place 2 dots on the Kiss as eyes. Place a red hot or cinnamon candy on the center of the white frosting by one side of the mouse and pipe green gel leaves on either side of the red hot. It is just a green squiggle on either side, but it gives the effect of holly. You could also use a dot of red piping gel on the tip of the Kiss as a nose, but it isn't really necessary. When done, the mouse faces sideways with the holly in front! They take some time, but aren't that expensive as the cherries usually come in a jar with a large number of cherries, and probably 3 bags of Oreos would give 100 bases. I wasn't one of those crazy people (but I wish I was) I didn't have alot to spend but went to JoAnn Fabrics and bought some flannel to make my new grandbaby a rag blanket for Chrsitmas, at 1.49 a yard I got a deal, plus an extra 20% off at the register! Bonnie, if I don't get the cricut expression for Xmas can I come over and play with yours?? LOL When I get mine I know I'll have lots of company-but that's a good thing, who likes to scrapbook alone?

My best after Christmas sale was *before* Christmas! I have been looking for teal or aqua wine glasses for a friend who uses teal/aqua/silver for his Christmas colors. Two days before Christmas I was at Macy's in the fine China/glassware department, and picked up one lone wine glass with aqua tint at the base of the 'bowl'. I asked an associate if there could quite possibly be any more, and he said he would go check in the back. They were $15 per glass and I wanted at least 12~he assured me they were at least 25% off. He was getting ready to leave for the day, but ran in the back and said they were on the very first shelf in the backroom, and counting the one in my hand, that would make 12. He had another associate bring them out, and I said, since that's all of them, maybe i'll get a special Christmas price. When the woman was finished ringing up all 12 she hit total, and said to me, 'that can't be right, it's only $38.' The male associate who was still there, took one of the glasses and put it under the scanner and it came up at $2.50. Several other customers who were in the department heard me squeal with delight over my fantastic purchase and immediately asked if there were any more. The lady associate asked me if I wanted the footed water glasses that were also $15 regular price and I asked how many there were. When she told me there were 16 I said I would take them all! LOL Needless to say I made a friend extremely happy! By the way, the glassware was Lenox, and I think they may have come with an amber tint on the bottom. I'm going back tomorrow and if so, will be getting those for ME!

I hope things get better. I love buying hand-made gifts for the people on my Christmas list. I'd hate to see holiday craft shows disappear like so many things...

I don't think younger generations are as interested in handmade things as we were in the past. Also dollar stores have taken over much ofthe market.

Went to one yesterday, lovely homemade items, I purchased some handmade knitted slippers love them , light warm and comfy. Some of the items were very big and very pricey, not for seniors They were nice for the larger homes The bake sale went extremely well. So many of us have limited space we have to be careful with our buying.too much. There is so many gifted people who make wonderful things. Best of luck to all of the vendors.

Maybe it is too early for craft shows, hopefully my next one will be better.

The craft shows here are just starting up - I only sold $500 Saturday, but I chalk it up to being moved to another location.. I do the Farmer's Market every week and am selling Christmas ornaments and wreaths already - my friend didn't make her booth space, but she never got up off her chair to greet anyone - I was absolutely exhausted by the end of the day, but I don't sit very much either... That evening, I had several phone calls to ask where I was - they'll be at the next show... Here's to better luck at the next shows and plenty of advertising too.

Show us some pics of what you make, you may get a sale from the KT!!!! Molly's stash of Christmas presents is a little low..and I am always looking for Christmas ornaments HINT HINT lol

You might get more business closer to Christmas.

But I'll be frank - the last half-dozen craft shows my friend dragged me to (clearly, I'm not a fan), was populated by other crafters. They are there looking to see what sells, so they can make it and sell it themselves.

Ooh - look! Purses are selling! I can make purses! Or whatever is selling best that particular show. They snoop, take notes, maybe even photograph, but they never buy.

Mary, your comment brings back funny memories. My sister had a craft table with really cute leather mice bookmarks on it. This was years ago. One lady actually had the nerve to pick one up and trace the outline. I observed her doing this and quietly suggested to her that it was only a dollar. I know I embarrassed her into buying it but I chuckle at the NERVE of that lady.
