I can't find it either! I have no idea why. Other people have posted asking for votes for one thing or another, so I don't think I did anything wrong. And I spent so much time finding the pictures and posting the links to show people how exciting 3D printing is. Not sure what to do at this point. Does anyone have any idea what might have happened?

I just went and checked my email and gardenweb did pull it. I totally did not know that and am sure I saw several such requests in the past. Maybe GW pulled all of those too, and I just didn't know.

At any rate, I'm sorry I broke the rules. I certainly didn't mean to.

Several have made such requests ... and they stayed up for a substantial period ... at least, some of them did.

Maybe a new rule, and we old geezers just have too long a memory ...

I just might make another post showing some of Brad's work and some information about 3D printing. It's a pretty interesting subject!

I could not open the link to your son's project. I see by comments that it was removed by the the moderator of this forum. It broke a rule.

3D printing is a facinating subject. The company that I worked for started using it about 20 years ago. It was much more primative then and restricted to a few resins. Since that time big strides have been made and the cost of the machines have dropped. Its one of the most exciting things to come down the pike for product development. It can not do everything like one wishes to believe, but it does have its place and is highly desireable.

I retired 15 yrs ago and since that time, my contact with 3D printing has been mostly reading articles in technical publications. However, I believe it is here to stay and will become increasingly important.

Here's a photo of my so-in-law's R2D2 robot - live size, moves and lights up! The parts to make R2 were printed on a 3D printer. In this photo, R2 was handing out Halloween candy on the kid's front porch ;-)

The Winged Victory of Samothrace is a beautiful 2nd-century BC sculpture of the Greek goddess Nike (Victory). It has been prominently displayed at the Louvre since 1884 and is one of the most famous sculptures in the world. It is estimated to have been created around the year 200 BC and is 8 feet high and made of marble.

After visiting the Louvre earlier this fall, Brad fell in love with Winged Victory, and after returning home used a 3D printer to create a miniature version that he and my daughter, Jaime, can display in their home.

I'm adding a few pictures of the process. Brad's winged victory was created in multiple sections of various bright colored plastic material (whatever he happened to have on hand - color doesn't matter since the finsihed product will be painted and finished to look like the original marble statue). In one photo, he has incuded a wine bottle for size comparison, so you can see his model is quite small.

All parts assembled, but doesn't have the finish applied yet.

And one last photo of R2D2. The one that was posted for the contest (that was removed) was a closeup of R2D2 with Discovery at the Smithsonian's Air and Space museum in Washington DC. This is a different photo taken at the same time. Brad often takes R2D2 to 'meet-and-greet' type functions where people can meet him up close and personal. This was at a Halloween function at Air and Space. Thousands of people had the opportunity to see Brad's R2D2 and I believe 5-6 other R2D2's that were there that day. They were able to touch him and ask questions about him.
