This year I am knitting everyone two dishclothes. I have found different dishcloth patterns on the net.

Would like to hear of some of the items you are making for gifts this year.

I've crocheted scarf/hat/purse sets for two of the younger grand-daughters (have one more to do for a new step-grand the same age), and a lot of other scarves, both winter and fashion accessory(I guess that's what you'd call the non-winter ones) for other older girls and women. I'm almost done with one for my son too. Last year, I did them for the littler grandsons, green and gold with Green Bay Packer emblems :-)

Normally, I do. This year I have been busy with finishing up some rather large cross stitch things for my family though. My son left for Basic Training in August and I had been working on his piece for close to 2 years so I really pushed on that one. Now I am rushing to finish up a birth sampler for my niece. I am fast running out of time! I may try for a couple of bookmarks for the ladies I work for at the garden center. But that will it for me. I love what you are all doing though! And I adore the dishcloths. I was gifted with some last year and they are just the best.

My brother's girlfriend was dying of cancer. During our last Christmas together, she gave me her bracelet that matches my brother's and some of her other jewelry. I wear that bracelet whenever I leave the house, it means so much to me. It was the most touching present I've ever gotten, it made me cry and I don't cry easily. She had the best time that day and I was so happy to be able to make that possible for her by having the holiday dinner at their house on short notice and getting all the other guests there even though we'd had a bad snow storm the day before.

I am not even thinking about Christmas gifts...I want to enjoy spring...summer....fall and then about Oct. I may think about Christmas....by the way this weekend is Easter so Happy Easter everyone! I do have projects planned, 4 I think...no special reason other than I think they are pretty... Dot to Dot like Geraldine made...have the pattern and fabric ready, Slide Show in an apricot and turquois, Pinwheel and 16 patch in green, peach, blue,and a scrappy batik. I broke my wrist this winter so just got the cast off 2 weeks ago and it is all healed up fine except I have a severed tendon in my thumb. I can't use my hand very well because the damaged tendon really hurts when I bang or try moving my thumb. So here I sit with my stash of fabric that I can't do much with. I have to see a surgeon now in a bigger center. This could go on all year...we have such a shortage of specialists, doctors and nurses. But I can go out side and enjoy the fresh spring air and go for walks and look for the first pussywillow or crocus or tulip popping so life isn't really so bad. Jean

I found this one today. OVERNIGHT APPLE BUTTER mixture of apple varieties, rather than just one type, will produce apple butter with rich, complex flavor in this slow cooker recipe. Good choices include Esopus Spitzenburg, Granny Smith, Jonathan, Northern Spy, Rome, Stayman, Winesap, and York. Enjoy the apple butter over toast or English muffins, or serve it with pork chops or chicken. Yield 4 cups (serving size: 1/4 cup) Ingredients 1 cup packed brown sugar 1/2 cup honey 1/4 cup apple cider 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves 1/8 teaspoon ground mace 10 medium apples, peeled, cored, and cut into large chunks (about 2 1/2 pounds) Preparation Combine all ingredients in a 5-quart electric slow cooker. Cover and cook on low 10 hours or until apples are very tender. Place a large fine-mesh sieve over a bowl; spoon one-third of apple mixture into sieve. Press mixture through sieve using the back of a spoon or ladle. Discard pulp. Repeat procedure with remaining apple mixture. Return apple mixture to slow cooker. Cook, uncovered, on high 1 1/2 hours or until mixture is thick, stirring occasionally. Spoon into a bowl; cover and chill up to a week. Stovetop variation: Combine all ingredients in a Dutch oven. Cover and cook over medium-low heat 1 hour or until apples are very tender, stirring occasionally. Strain through a sieve as recipe instructs in Step 2. Return mixture to pan. Cook, uncovered, over medium-low heat 15 minutes or until thick, stirring frequently.

Anyone make soap for X-mas gifts?

This year we've made a 10 pound cold processed recipe. We've split it into 2 x 4 pound recipes and 1 x 2 pound quantities. The first 4 pounder, we used a Coconut FO (my daughter likes it straight, no other scent with it); the second 4 pounder, we used Spearmint EO (I don't really like the Peppermint EO); and the last 2 pounds, we used Yuzu (if memory serves) using the last of that FO. This time of year we like to bring some soap over to friends homes, and leave it by one of their sinks (we dont tell them) they'll know who left them. :D It is a nice gift that is home made, and we avoid gift exchanges that way as well. I'm knitting 2 "Eternity" scarves for my SILS. Very easy.Last year I made everyone on my list a small knitted Christmas stocking to hang on their tree. If I have time, I'll knit another bunch of ornaments. I'm thinking knitted bells or small sweaters.

jae, I wish I could, but I just made them up as I went along. They are pretty simple, mostly single crochet with a little double crochet on the hats and purses. For the hats, I started out at the top center of the hat, increasing enough to make it lay flat and form a circle. Then when I got it as big as I thought I wanted it, I started decreasing quite a lot to bring it back in to fit the size of a girl's head. I used my step daughter to test the size. They're pretty stretchy so I had a lot of 'forgiveness' in the actual size. I wish I could tell you better.

Jel, those are GREAT! really nice!

I usually make a few Christmas ornaments to put on the package, make it pretty!

I do sometimes make jewelry it will depend on how my hands are doing this year. I will definitely try to make my Mom some because when she was here we picked out some really petty jade beads that she liked.

I'm a quilter and try to make something each year, but I have been working on getting things ready for a card party/Chinese auction and might not get to making big gifts....So instead of big quilts, it might be table runners.....

Jel - they are just beautiful.
A few Christmas's ago, I made all my 3 sisters, niece and daughter a barbie doll outfit from the Calendar Doll collection. I used their birthstone color for the dress. Another Christmas I made each an afghan with their favorite flowers done in the afghan stitch.

Oh, you crafty people! These are beautiful gifts.

I'm whatever the opposite of crafty may be. I just wanted to share that a friend knit darling scarves for her boy/girl grandchildren. You might want to look for 'Dragon' and 'Poodle' patterns.
