Just wondering if there's any night owls hangin' out?

And if so...please say hello!

We could kinda have a "night owl" hootin' club...LOL!

Yep I'm here. Actually we did used to have a KT Night Owl group. But it never really took off I don't think.

My oldest Stormy weather is, I think, 2 years old. I guess maybe I just have to wait longer; but then again, I gather you are in CA, so quite a different climate. About how tall were the pillared ones you saw? Mine rebloom quite well, they are just short. As for Night Owl, I have had my oldest for, I think, 4 years, and it is short; maybe 3 ft tall.

THE NIGHTWATCH is a Ben Williams shrub rose that was first offered by Hortico under Williams' Dutch Master Series of striped and streaked roses. I got mine from Hortico, but I see that it is now also listed on Roses Unlimited's website too. I've had mine for about 4-5 yrs, and it's been wonderful. Right now it's about 3 1/2ft high and maybe 5ft wide, due to the arching canes. I have it planted in my "Red/Burgundy/White" bed, along with its fellow striped buddies, MEINDEERT HOBBEMA, REMBRANDT VAN RYN and SCARLET RIPPLE, all Williams roses, and all with no info on parentage. TN waaay overpowers the other roses in the bed, altho RVR is holding its own and trying to keep up. It has a more burgundy/purple color and slightly smaller flowers. It almost looks like a shrubby version of PURPLE TIGER. There are quite a few other roses in the Dutch Master Series. REMBRANDT VAN RYN These pics really aren't as accurate as THE NIGHTWATCH ones. This color is extremely difficult to capture with my camera, and to tweak them to the real color distorts the rest of the picture, so this is the closest I can get. Just envision the color as at least another shade more purple.

Deanna-- The other night, about 10:30 p.m.--I was sitting on our new in-the-middle-of-our backyard deck, with my back to our new neighbors' side of the yard, when I started to call it *a night*, and got up to leave! I suddenly spotted, out of the corner of my eye, what I took to be a giant lightning bug going down to their in-ground pond and fountain! I thought, "Whoaa!", and stood there watching for it again! Then I spotted a white-looking light, darting up and down her new row of hosta and other plantings! Did I mention I'm enabling her to be *one of us*?:O) Then, suddenly the light whipped around to her deck and then I'm thinking, "just who is that in their yard???" I stood watching, just peeking around the corner of the lattice fencing that we have, about 25 ft. from the property line and between our yards, and as the light bounced off the door, that was being search out all around the top and sides of, I realized it was *her*! It was kinda scary before realizing that it was,indeed, her! I called out to her asking what in the world was she up to? She laughed, came over to talk to me and explained that she was putting out moth balls to ward off the rabbits and squirrels! She explained that there just aren't enough hours in the day being a young Mom and all!!! LOL The light was from a head-light sort of thing!! So, it CAN be done, this night-gardening thing! And, Anita--with that kinda *gear*, I'm sure any critters would be high-tailing it out of your garden! It almost did the trick with me, and being--just next door! LOL Alexa--have you always had the sleep problems you're having right now? If not, there may be an explanation, depending on your age! :o) And, a pretty good treatment for it--in most cases--at least for me, it was a real blessing!

You don't have to use the Advanced Search, Carol. Click on the "Lineage" tab. Go to "Descendents by Generation" and it will list the two I mentioned. Memorial Day has been used rather nicely it appears, by Brad Jalbert. Betty White only has a climbing sport to her credit so far and Paradise Found has none, yet. I would think any of them could create something neat with Night Owl. Of course, there will be a number of single to semi double seedlings. That's Nature's way of guarantying fertility. Seedlings will often increase in their number of petals with maturity, so something with perhaps fifteen or so, may mature into twenty-five. Don't give up on them too soon. If the plant is healthy, vigorous, of attractive foliage, growth and color, it may well be worth breeding further generations with. Using Night Owl could well be engineering in health, vigor and saturated color in on the ground floor. I'd think it might make an interesting starting point. I understand your desire for more double seedlings, however using a less double seed parent might well produce more seedlings than one of the more double because of the greater fertility of a less double bloom. You may also have greater disease resistance because of what created Night Owl. It's closer to a healthy species with a lot less inbreeding than the usual HT. Oh great!!!! It's nice to know I'm not here all by my lonesome. So there's at least six of us...well that's a big enough club for now...LOL!

Hello fellow night owlers!!
I'm here its 12:24 pst, and I will be up for at least two more hours! I've always been a night owl, I do my best work at night! Only thing is I can't vaccume, even though my hubby says it wouldn't bother him I just won't do it!

I'm a night owl but normally not this much. Coming down with a cold and can't breathe and my throat is raw in spite of taking a healthy dose of cold meds before I went to bed. So I emailed in sick for tomorrow and am now drinking hot decaf tea trying to soothe my throat and doing thIs in bed on my iPhone.

I bet if I was retired I would be up half the night as the rest of you are.

shell...yeah, I would feel weird whippin' out the ol' vacuum at that time too plus my dog would hate it...lol!

Hi fellow night owls. I've been one all my life. Medical-caused retirement at an early age was the best thing that ever happened to me. I'm no longer forced to function in a daytime world! Yay!

I am a night owl too. I try to get to bed by 1:30am, but the end of DST has thrown that off this week.

I sometimes am on the computer late, but usually I am knitting and watching tv shows I have recorded till bedtime.

Yep, a night owl here in Wisconsin.

Took out the trash at 10:00 pm for tomorrow's pickup. Its been lightly raining all day with snow mixed in starting in late afternoon. A bunch more of my leaves finally fell today. While taking out the trash, I picked up the rake and snow shovel and moved the leaves in the driveway to the curb. I won't be up as late tonight as I have been. I'm due at the clinic at 10 am for stress testing, a follow-up test to check on a procedure done 2 yrs ago.

I usually stay up at least until midnight so I don't wake up at 6AM. I am a night person, always have been. When my first husband worked second shift and the kids were in bed I did most of my cleaning.

Hey, vala55, I can relate to that. DH worked days, but after he & the 4 kids were in bed, I'd go to town with the cleaning and I did a lot of sewing my & the kids clothes after they were all in bed. It was getting that uninterrupted time that I so treasured.

I'm Pat, 61 yrs. young, retired, mother of 4 adults -- 3 married, one engaged, 2 in Houston, 1 in CO, 1 in Orlando, grandma of 5 -- 4 in CO, baby in FL, married 42 yrs.. Moved 2 wks. ago from Houston to Orlando & are renting 5 mins. away from DD & DSIL & 6 mo. old granddaughter. Life is GOOOOD!
