Hi everyone,

I was just curious to see how many shop at these sites.

I've shopped at both...mostly at the Q. I'm not quite the

QVC queen that I used to be though...now that I'm retired.

I thought it might be fun to share opinions about some of

our purchases whether they were good or bad.

I just recently purchased some holiday theme items and I'm

very pleased.

I'm enjoying the Candle Impressions and Bethehem Lights

shows and have purchased some wonderful items from both

brands. Anyone else buying from these two lines?

I'm hoping this thread will end up being interesting,

informative and alot of fun!

I have purchased many things over the years from Q. For the most part I have been very pleased with my purchases which run the gamut from appliances to clothing to holiday items.Last year I bought an artificial Bethlehem Lights tree.It was much heavier than I thought it would be and not as easily assembled for me to do anyway. I caved instead of getting a fresh tree, because I want to keep the tree up from Thanksgiving through the first week of January.The convenience of shopping online and having it delivered is most appealing.

I have to admit I like to watch the Bethlehem lights and Flameless candle shows - love that stuff!

I bought a Bethlehem tree - but off eBay. So much less $$$$

This is an old post but still something I'm in search of & no tinterested in real expensive products either. Well there MUST be products that actually work b/c the cosmetics & advertising industry are always using tricks to dimish the look or camouflauge wrinkels. Lucky for my my gene pool was pretty good, but ANY wrinkles or sagging is too much. I've tried several moisturizers but other than helping to eliminate dryness which can make you look ashy & older, I don't really find they plump. I've tried glycolic peels/microdermabrasions at home a few times & each time got horrible breakouts (never thought of myself as having sensitive skin). I went for 2 microdermabrasions (they were complementary) & not only did I not see any improvement but I also had horrible dryness & breakouts afterwards. B/c of those experiences I'm afraid to try retin A or retinol products. The breakouts last wks. For months I've used eye cream with no noticebale difference. I've also tried lip plumpers & didn't notice anything. I've also tried different cosmetics. The dewy look looks greasy not necessarily youthful. I've tried the mineral lines & really hated them. They work no differently than powders & everything settles in the lines making them even MORE noticeable. Any of the cream products that actually offer any coverage also settle in the lines. Finally the best switches I've made are to use a makeup primer under my eyes so that at least the under eye conceler won't settle in the lines - it makes the skin smoother for applying make-up. It's makes no difference in teh way the skin actually looks other than protecting against settling make-up & making the make-up glid eon easily so less tugging. I also switched to a foundation that has light diffusing BUT I find they are lighter formulations & while that's good b/c it causes less settling they also don't offer as much coverage which I find is needed as you age & the skin b/c more blotchy. I even tried Gene Instant line Remover which is supposed to offer immediately temporary results & it felt like my skin was being pulled & taut & if I smiled I felt like I was going to crack. QVC Cook's Essentials -- Opinions?

I too, have been looking hard at the Cook's Essentials Line. I have read many good reports on the internet about their warranty. I have a full set of Calph "Pro" Nonstick and I was very happy when I first got it. But now, it has pretty much lost it's nonstick ability. Can't get the fry pan clean. I have the bakeware set also, and the "Jelly Roll" pans are flaking badly. I have read many complaints about the Calphalon warranty too. Seems they deny most claims always stating that the owner did "something wrong" that voided the warranty. So I won't even bother sending them back to Calphalon, I'll throw them out. I plan to purchase the "Technique" Anodozed non-stick set in the near future. Tim

Any experience out there with latex mattress toppers?

We are also looking at getting latex topper. Our mattress, which is theoretically natural latex (we have some questions about the veracity of that claim), is just not comfortable because it's too firm for us. Right now we have a 3" memory foam topper that I am done with (too hot, can't turn over without arching our backs off the bed). After speaking with a local company that manufactures natural latex mattresses and pads, I get the impression that adding a topper to an iffy mattress can actually make it worse. It sounds like your mattress is not supportive enough for you. I've heard of putting a board underneath a too soft mattress to make it firmer. Perhaps that would be worth a shot? I found a place online, Habitat Furnishings, that sells the toppers and mattresses, with a very long trial period/money back guarantee. If you're unsure, maybe that would be a good option so you're not out any more money. If it doesn't work, a new mattress might be your only option. I'm not thrilled at the idea of spending more money two years after we bought this mattress, but I have to be able to sleep. Maybe someone else can chime in with knowledge of whether the latex toppers could make it feel firmer. My gut says no, but I don't know for sure. I hope you find a solution that works for you!

I've purchased several tops that are appropriate for my worklife (they're knit, but they are one step up from casual, but not too businessy). Liked almost all except for a couple that were just a shade off from what would've been perfect. I think twice before ordering nowadays because of the return costs, as Cynic posted, and just the general hassle of packing things up and getting to the P.O. I haven't bought anything except clothes from them in a long time, altho I do keep an eye online on handbags, cuz I've been looking for "just the right one"! The merchandise is certainly of a higher class (cost, obviously; quality, I can't speak of) mixed among other stuff now. Apple products, many lines of high-end bags (not just Dooney/Burke anymore), a lot of electronics. Between QVC and HSN years ago, I've spent too much money on return-postage alone, so I'd rather spend time driving to stores near me for the hands-on test.

I used to buy more from QVC because I liked some of their clothing lines. Lately, though, I only buy flameless candles and holiday decor items. I'll make an occasional Anna Griffin or Jeffrey Banks purchase on HSN. I no longer watch either channel live, but I'll record the Valerie Parr Hill shows and watch them on mute to see her decorating ideas.

Since QVC started training their hosts to yammer without saying anything about the product, I can't stand to listen to them. Jill Bauer and Leah Williams are the only two hosts that still have some decorum left. I know I'm in the minority, though, because other posters on the QVC forums think they are boring.

By the way, you might want to join the QVC forums if you don't post there already. There are very specific forums for different products where you might enjoy discussing your purchases.

Didn't know that about the forums. Being unable to shop the mall's for many year, QVC has been a lifesaver, as well as Walmart,. as they provide elec. carts and wide enough isles and DH can browse in other depts. Clothing at Q is always good quality...sizes too. Downside is that returning stuff is costly from the northwest. Clarks shoes in wide sizes...you really have to shop around for them and the Special Value ones usually are that.

I do agree about some of the hosts and some of their "primping and posturing" just doesn't send a good message to me. Maybe another sign of getting old.

I shop at both, but not nearly as I once did. I loved Joan Rivers' jewelry, and I still love Nolan Miller's. I don't buy the flamless candles because of the scent, I wish they would do them unscented.

I actually bought our big screen from HSN, it was on sale, they offered 6 payments, free shipping and no tax!

yes, like others not as much as I used to.. I buy Philosophy products mostly, have also purchased Ryka shoes, and Dennim and Co. My only purchase returned was a pair of Ryka shoes than ran a bit small for me, so had to exchange for larger pair.

Lynn, I can't do the scented candles either. They do offer
some choices in unscented...yay!

cheri, Yeah, I've heard that Ryka shoes are good but some of their styles do run smaller than others. Too bad they can't be consistent with the sizing...grrrrr!

I shop both-have for years but not as much now. I love the 'Bill to-ship to'..as all my kids are in NC & PA. Sure saves me a bundle in shipping!
I actually prefer the Q for quality of their clothing but I'm SO hooked on HSN's Diane Gilman's jeans-they are awesome! The brand is called DG2 and they fit like a glove-stretch in all the right places-wear wonderfully-love them. I wear a Sz 10 but her jeans I take an 8 petite..as the waist stretches quite a bit. We have an HSN outlet about 3 miles from my house so I get most of my jeans there much cheaper.
