dust ruffles that attach from the side

Hopefully you know what I mean - the kind that attach without lifting up the mattress and putting the whole thing between the mattress and the box spring.

I don't mind the ones you put under the mattress but in looking for a new one I'm seeing a lot of the ones I like are the other kind. It seems like it might be a good idea but I can imagine them not staying put.

Has anyone used these and do they work well?

It seems like the manufacturers are trying to skimp on fabric for these things. Many of them are flat with just one or two pleats on each side - less fabric than the "ruffley" type. Or if it's the ruffley type then they stick on from the side and don't have all the fabric that goes under the mattress.

After the bar soap and toilet paper mfgs started to be sneaky about cutting material/costs I guess I'm now suspicious of others' motives......

I have a couple. They're fine. They have elastic all around them, but the ruffles are, of course, only on 3 sides of the ones I have. I'd buy them again. Be sure to buy the correct length. Some of the cheaper ones are only 12 inches long. I needed 14 or 15 inch. Never saw any straight ones. I've had mine maybe 4 or 5 years.

DougMac, You have a good point. Dew is a great natural mister that will cut down dust on days we have it. Without any additional work or the dreaded dragging out of the hose (from a gimps point of view) However, as the devils advocate I read (perhaps a Scotts flier we used to get) or heard on a lawn care segment many years ago that it is best to cut in the evening. Here is why more or less as I member: When you mow in the mornings, the grass is shocked more so than when you mow in the evenings. The sun does a number on the newly exposed grass leaves left after mowing no longer shaded by the cut part. Particularly if you break the golden rule of never cutting more than 1/4 to 1/3 of the blade height at one cutting. In the evening the shock is much less since the grass has a chance to recover overnight and it may get misted by dew before the sun beats down on it. A good 16 to 18 hours of rest or recovery period of sorts. Akin to us sleeping to get recharged for the next day (does grass sleep?). Anyhow it made a lot of sense to me and I have always done so since informed while I was able to mow. Now that I cannot mow from my wheelchair, I as a rule still forbid my wife to cut in the mornings. Particularly in the middle of the day that being the worst case scenario shock wise. On the other hand since the lawn now looks like crap anyway under my wifeÂs loving care, perhaps I should rethink my golden rules. She might be happier and the lawn may just go from terrible to just slightly a hair more than terrible. :-) I guess what I am saying is that this theory might only apply if you truly are hell bent on having the best lawn on the block organically or otherwise. Sort of an edge or sorts for those anal retentive types concerned to the nth degree about what their lawns look like. Or just plain like a lush green carpet of grass blades. Boy do I miss it! The green natures carpet that is. Not the work. Seems like we (or I) have much more important things to spend time on these days such as trying not to think about the inevitable soft drink or another sinister plot someone will get on board a planeÂnot entirely what it seems to beÂ.just a matter of time. Iam no physicist or building scientist but it seems like a lot of wasted time and effort have been put into radiant barriers in housing with the exception of Low E windows. I think the RB product you imagine would not perform well in a home and any performance you did get would be from its air barrier and insulation properties. Not much to be gained with the reflectivity and emmissivity. A triple pane window gets most of its extra performance from the air not the low E coating and too much of a coating cant hurt you from decreased SHGC. I would guess that Question #1 is yes. Nearly as well, depending on how dusty. #2: No. Please dont ask me to produce them, but studies find an RB must have a free air space to work and insulation is not enough of an air space. Ancient KA Bit the Dust!

I have the KA pro and I'm very happy with it. It does fine with bread - it will handle bigger batches than the bread machine. All the attachments from the old KAs that are powered from the socket at the front of the mixer head work on the new KA. (E.g. pasta maker, grinder, shredder.) The bowl is a different shape so blades and bowls from the old one don't work with new. The slow start is a nice improvement from the old KAs. No more flour spattering out.

Help me find thread(s) about drawer glides and granite dust?

When they drilled the holes for our faucet/soap dispenser/air switch, we didn't seem to have a problem. However, when they ground down part of the back of the granite to reduce the gap b/w the counter and wall, they got granite dust in all the drawer glides of the cabinet they were grinding "over". The dust doesn't appear to have "traveled" up. We just found out that contrary to what we were told, they will be doing the cooktop cutout inside our house...so I'm in the same boat as you. My DH, after our bad experience w/the first installation, has already requested that they remove ALL drawer glides of the cabinets they're working over. They have agreed...but I'll wait and see what really happens! [I mean actually remove them completely from the cabinets...NOTHING left behind!]

I think the ones with the pleats are just a different style then the ruffly ones. I've seen them in the traditional type (that goes clear under the mattress) so they're not just something different for the type that doesn't go under the mattress.

My dust ruffle goes between the mattress and boxspring. I removed it to wash it about a year ago and never put it back. I will look into one of these. Going to Bed Bath and BEyond next week anyhow. I have a 15% off coupon.

Those dust ruffles sure tempt me because with the weight of my mattress it's a major effort to get the ruffles out and then back on the bed after laundering.

That is the type I use as well, our mattress is one of those extra deep ones and it weighs 5 tons. I hope you find what you want!

How do these ruffles stay in place? I recall having some many years ago that were attached to the spring by a sort of screw-pin. (A short coil of wire on a plastic head that you twisted into the edge of the mattress spring. Tedious, but easier than lifing the mattress to avoid bunching up the ruffle.

Jannie!, cut off the top part of the ruffle, attach some velcro to the box spring and the ruffle... easy peasy!

I couldn't find one I liked that didn't have to go under the mattress and there is no way we could move our temper pedic. It would take 6 men since it's so heavy. Soooooooo what I did, found the one I liked and just cut the center part our. I left about 6 inches on the edges, slipped it under the mattress and used tape to hold it in place. Just a piece here and there is enough. I have used safety pins too.

Back when we had a water bed which i hated,i made one for that bed.I hot glued one side of velcro to the bed frame,or you could glue it to the box spring,and the other velcro piece to the dust ruffle which i made as i like them full and ruffly.It worked great and when i got rid of it i just peeled the velcro off the frame,and it didn't mar the frame in any way.I had sewed the velcro to the dust ruffle so it could be pulled off and washed.

A friend of mine "invented" a zip on zip off dust ruffle and was selling them on the Home Shopping Network. I thought she sold them to Walmart, also, but I'm not sure. It was a neat idea and she sold a lot of them. I haven't seen any in the stores and I don't watch Home Shopping Network. She will be coming to Tucson in a week or so and I'll try to remember to get more information.

Mamatoad, what do they zip on to?

My grandma used to make the kind that had the elastic all the way around and I agree, they were always ruffly, never the tailored kind.

I like the idea of cutting the middle out of mine then tucking it back under, we have the 5 ton mattress too!
