I loved the movie, too, but I can't imagine going through her cookbook one recipe at a time. I did one once for a couples gourmet dinner group. It was five pages long and I went through every pot in the kitchen several times. It was a two or three day recipe. Thank God I only had to do the main dish and everyone else brought the remaining dishes for the menu. It was good but I couldn't help thinking that I had many other recipes that were equally as good or better and could be done in an hour or two.

I loved that movie. Meryl is such am amazing actress!

I loved this movie, I am a food network junkie that hates to cook! I thought she did an in incredible job portraying Julia.

I liked the "Julie" parts OK, but the "Julia" parts were so much better!

It was an excellent film...Julia was such an uplifting soul...I only can dream about cooking the dishes she made...cooking will NEVER be my forte! (but I can hold a mean paintbrush!)

We saw this with my parents, and we ALL loved it. The men enjoyed it as much as Mom and I.
Julie was "okay", Julia/Meryl Streep was amazing.

I agree - "Julia" was what made the movie. I like Amy Adams, but "Julie" isn't someone I'd like much. Too neurotic.

I have Julia Childs' "The Way to Cook," and have made many of the recipes in it. Her French buttercream (with 9 eggs, I believe) is in a completely different category than other icings.

I saw it a few months ago-very entertaining movie. And I loved the little scene at the end, with Julie leaving a package of butter. Got me wanting to make and eat Beef Burgandy. (Sorry my French is terrible).

I read the book before I saw the movie. I absolutely hated the book and the author along with it. She's a miserable person, imo.

I envy those of you who didn't read the book because, unfortunately, that ruined the movie for me. I know that the movie was quite different from the book and the character was tempered (Julie, not Julia), but it was still ruined. I love, love, love Meryl Streep and she was delightful in this movie, as always.

But if you want to continue loving the movie, my advice is to not read the blasted book. (Can you tell I really, really dislike Julie?).

I heard an interview with Stanley Tucci in which he said the Childs must have had two livers apiece in order for them to have lived so long (more than 90 years each) while eating such rich food. And both of them smoked!

Well, I have only one liver, and it's not very tolerant of fats. And my arteries are completely intolerant of butter. So Julia's recipes aren't for me. We need a movie about a lovely, charming, joyous woman who makes a lot of dishes with lettuce. :-)

I loved the movie, and saw when it first came out.

Julia Child was my inspiration when it comes to cooking. I watched her since her first PBS episodes. I have both volumes of her cookbooks, and the pages are well worn.

Real cooking, on her level, insists on proper pans, planning and prep work --- then, it's easy.

ohhhh, how I loved that movie! I watched it with DH and DD, who both yawned through the whole thing as they kept looking at me like I was from Mars because I was so enraptured. At the end, when she was "walking through her life" in the scenes with the retro kitchen, I started bawling . . . I need to watch that movie again - alone! I absolutely adore Julia, especially her wit and humor, and I'm happy as a clam if I happen to find an old show of hers to watch :)

I really loved the Julia parts and I think Meryl Streep did a fantastic job, but I could not stand the Julie character. If the movie had been all about Julia and completely left out the Julie character, I would have liked it a whole lot better.

I totally agree with Suzieque, the movie was great fun but the book was TERRRIBLE! Julie is a self absorbed twit of a person. Don't ruin the wonderful aftertaste of the movie by reading the book.

Seems to me 'Julie' would have had no book, nor a movie, without tying her miserable self to the great Julia Child. (Didn't the Child estate sue that miserable, opportunistic, adulterous witch?)

I think I do remember something like that, chisue. In fact, Julie didn't think much of Julia, neither liking or respecting her. That came thru in the book. And Julia refused to meet with her.

I always did like Julia :-)

And chisue, I agree with your description of "Julie". Except you forgot to add "narcissistic" and "foul-mouthed".
