Your experience is exactly my assumption about them from the first time I saw them. I will never have one of that I am sure.

Can you post a picture of one? I am not sure what you are talking about.
I am a potter and I dream of one day being good enough to make a large round sink bowl.... They are very hard as you have to use a large amount of clay and keep it centered to be able to make it work. I am talking 25+pounds of clay. I am good only up to maybe 5 to 7 pounds of clay, depending on what I am trying to make. A bowl? hard to keep round.

They are beautiful, but NEVER in my house.

I have several friends with them, and they find them difficult to keep clean. Water and soap scum easily run down the outside of the vessel bowl and end up in a scummy ring at the base - with no good way to reach it other than with a toothbrush or cotton swab.

Don't have one - too trendy for me - prefer things that are more classic and timeless.

I have one in my bathroom. It looks great and works okay, but its the size of a large mixing bowl in glass. If anyone could tell me how to post a photo I would be able to show it. Only problem is that the grandchildren cannot brush their teeth there. (until they get a lot taller)

I did, too soxxxx. We stayed at a motel last year that had one. I found it to be very awkward but I think the base was too high for that type of sink. Some are very beautiful looking from an artistic point of view, some look just kind of clumsy. I think in a powder room it might be nice, but all in all, I think they're not that practical particularly if not installed properly....that is, the dimensions of the base not taking into consideration the height of the sink. I don't think I would want one in a bathroom that I used primarily. JMO

We have some and I really love them. I don't think they are any harder to keep clean than the other sinks.

Don't like them at all. In a couple years all the HGTV shows will have couples saying they don't want THAT house with the "dated" vessel sink. I only knew of one person who had one and I didn't think it was possible but hers cracked!

We rented a vacation condo in Costa Rica. There was one in the bathroom there. It was really small and shallow. I could wash my hands without making too much of a mess, but DH has large hands and they didn't fit the sink. It was awful keeping it clean.

Give me a deep undermount sink anytime.

I really wanted one in the powder room but 2 of my friends put them in and after seeing what happens with theirs and their comments I won't be doing it. They basically said the same thing, that the energy to keep them clean is not worth the look. One of them is that clear, green glass....my friend said that it drives her crazy, she is always drying the sink out to keep the water spots at bay! It would make me crazy (er)!

To me, too, they're the kind of thing that will be 'out' in a few years and will be a problem if one wants to sell the house.

Aside from the obvious cleaning issue, I have a couple of other questions. Some of them look so delicate--are they as breakable as they look? It could be a real problem if you had something that size shatter in the bathroom, because a can of hairspray fell out of the medicine cabinet, when you were in your bare feet...... Also, what about overflow drains? They don't have them, do they? Maybe I'm a little OCD about the issue, but that seems an important feature of a bathroom sink to me.

For me? I stick with white appliances in the kitchen and traditional fixtures in the bathroom. Nothing trendy that's going to go out of style too quickly.

I want one and have looked at many different kinds and sizes. I'd like a white tile bathroom with a pop of a cobalt blue bowl or vessel and a picture that I love to tie it together then some towels to do the same. It looks clean.

You can change them out too. As people find ways to keep glass showers clean which are a bigger pain I think this is doable and dramatic and not that much work. You are going to have to clean one sink or another by any name.

As for the whiners on HGTV they are
pretty ridiculous and will complain about the color of the walls. Sigh.

Gosh, I guess it does sound like a sinking ship, lol. Never thought of that. After all of your comments I think I'll be going traditional. I had thought that this trend my die out and then really date the bathroom (or en suite as they call it on hgtv, lol).

I had gone to a local bath/kitchen store and of course fell in love with the most expensive vessel they had which I found online for much cheaper, but still outrageously expensive. Now that I know more, I see that this one is so shallow and would be extremely messy. And I would never pay that much for a sink (we need two, so double it). But it's a light green glass with grecian stenciling and is so pretty.

I with soxxx - I was wondering if a cruise ship went down - LOL!

I used one recently and because the sink sits so high (close to the tap), the water literally hit the drain and shot right up the edge of the bowl and out. REALLY problematic if you have high water pressure and have guests use the sink since they aren't familiar with how the sink handles.

I wouldn't mind having one in a powder room that didn't get used too much but for day-to-day use, I wouldn't want one. I don't want to have to clean the inside AND the outside of a sink.

I have seen some gorgeous ones, though, and they are very tempting. It's like having art on the countertop.
