How nasty is this? I noticed at work a few weeks ago that the toilet paper on the roll was re-rolled. I figured someone had pulled too hard and too much came out, so she re-rolled it back on the roll. I didn't know it at the time, but this was the new rule for the housekeeping department: take the remaining paper from the almost empty rolls and roll them onto a new roll.

My friend Sam was in the bathroom when she watched a housekeeper do this, and told her how unsanitary that was, especially when the old paper was wadded on the countertop while it was being re-rolled. The housekeeper said her supervisor told them to do it and as for sanitary purposes, "I got gloves".

Sam took a picture with her cell phone and showed it to our manager, now it has gone to the head of the casino and is a huge deal. I am glad they are taking care of this, I would have called the health department if management hadn't dealt with it!

Seems like more trouble to re-roll the paper instead of just letting it run out. Not very time efficient, assigning someone the dubious job of toilet paper re-roller, when they could be doing something more productive like actually cleaning the toilets.

I loved it, I shared it with George so he could tell it the next time he goes to have his blood work done. The ladies in the hospital are always asking him if he has any new jokes. I know exactly what you mean. I have maple butcher block countertops with black cherry edging. I held an open house around Christmas and really worried about the same sort of thing, especially as I had just finished the kitchen and the party was really to show it off! However, guests would not be cooking. I had soups keeping hot on the induction stove. I put huge wooden boards with cheese and crackers on the countertops. I put the wine and other drinks in the dining room, which didn't stop them drinking in the kitchen. I "policed" the area frequently, mostly to dry any spilled liquids if necessary. After they all left, I loaded the dishwasher, piled what was left into the sink, and put everything else away. Then, I oiled the countertops with mineral oil. Next day, the countertops were as good as new, except for a few tiny splatters where some black olives had dropped, but these have since faded into the wood. As you say, it's a working kitchen, not a museum. It's still "my baby", and I'm proudly looking after it, but it passed the test :)

I would love to walk the dog- but I am kind of small and have arthritis and the dog jumps on me and knocks me over when I do pet her- I am sure she would get away. And nobody walks her. I think she gets the minimum- petted when fed. The put the pen in a place it is "intruding"for me to visit her- but i do send treats and bones over as much as I can. I don't know them very well-but I will continue to make offers of finding a good foster home. My husband told me I am obsessed with feeling bad which I am- he said I did the best I can.

Jeannie - Here's something else I think is worth considering in the resurrection of your brom’s. Although the plants you initially thought were beyond help due to cold damage have proved they can still "bounce back". Now because the mother plants were damaged by the cold they don't have as much nourishment to pass on to their pups as they normally would and we need to look at ways in which to supplement this nourishment. To do this we can provide a little suitable fertiliser, but first we have to decide on the best method of application whether it’s putting it in the mix, adding a slow release fertiliser to the top of the mix or providing it in liquid form (foliar fertilising). Because the pups don’t have roots to take up any fertiliser in the potting mix, foliar fertilising is the only option. The other benefits are, it is instantly absorbed through the foliage and you have complete control over its application. Like all fertilisers, there are so many different types on the market they will really confuse you, so firstly you need to think about what you want the fertiliser to do. All good fertilisers will have what's known as an N:P:K ratio printed on the package. This N:P:K is an acronym which defines the percentages of the three main ingredients, Nitrogen Phosphorus and Potassium, each of which has a different function. Nitrogen (N) – nitrogen is largely responsible for the growth of leaves on the plant. Phosphorus (P) – Phosphorus is responsible for root growth, flower and fruit development. Potassium (K) – Potassium helps the overall functions of the “total” plant perform correctly. An easy way to remember what each of these nutrients do, is to remember this little memory Jogger: “Up, down and all around” UP = NITROGEN which primarily promotes UP growth (above the ground) such as foliage. DOWN = PHOSPOROUS is mainly responsible for DOWN growth (below the ground) i.e. root growth ALL AROUND = POTASSIUM is generally responsible for ALL AROUND growth i.e. the (total growth) of the plant including flowers and fruiting. In your case you need a fertiliser which is reasonably balanced and not especially high in any single ingredient and for this you could seek advice from a horticulturalist at your local nursery. An old nurseryman told me many years ago that the secret to success was to feed seedlings and young plants “little and often”. So following this recommendation, in your case the preferred fertiliser application would be “foliar fertilising” at a weaker strength than recommended, and applied more often than recommended. Generally this is defined as follows: If the recommendation is for one teaspoon of fertiliser mixed in one gallon of water and applied monthly you could give it in the following proportions: Half teaspoon of fertiliser in one gallon of water applied each two weeks, or better still, one quarter teaspoon of fertiliser in one gallon of water applied once each week. No matter what method or rate you choose. It’s always wise to water in between each feed as this will flush off any accumulation of salts from the fertiliser. I hope this is of some help. ... makes it even more attractive to have corporations decide that producing stuff in our neck of the woods is too expensive ...

... better build a plant in China.

(Which is the use that quite a few of them put the money to that many here advocate not levying a tax load on them, claiming that they'll use those saved taxes " ... to produce jobs" [but they neglect to say where]).

I guess I'm not as germ-a-phobic as some, this doesn't bother me. If it did I would be in trouble because so often I have to rewind the TP after my cat, Buster has unrolled the whole roll down to the floor.

That reminds me of a show Oprah did eons ago on cheap-skates.
The husband insisted on the family separating the 2-ply toilet paper and re-winding them, to get double the tissues.

I don't get it, why such a big deal about tissue you use to wipe your butt? As long as it's not wet, I say re-roll it. My cat regularly goes in the bathroom and plays ith the toilet paper. I don't waste any that happens to be off the roll.

Guess it didn't bother me either, BUT, I do think doing this in a business (place where lots of people are in and out spreading germs or who knows what) is different then re-rolling tp at home.

So I could be in a stall, and end up with a bunch of small pieces of toilet paper??

I wonder if this is done with those huge rolls, or the little regular, home-size rolls.

I find it hard to believe that germs would last long on otherwise clean toilet paper, if they managed to get on it in the first place. And since I'd be using it to wipe my backside, catching something would be low on the list of concerns...germs and other catchables require a warm, damp environment, not cold, dry TP.

I can't see the logic of doing it for a few reasons. Why not let it be used up? I suppose it could be a thought that you needed to change it and rather than waste it, add it on and conserve but the labor cost would seem to overide the savings of doing that. It probably is a commercial roll in an enclosed container, but even then, most have a second roll available. Doesn't make sense to me.

Not sure I understand how unsanitary it would be. Not sure the health department people I've dealt with would care. I'm guessing even re-rolled paper would be far more sanitary than other areas of the room. Now if they were wrapping the paper around the door handles and re-rolling... LOL

It is unsanitary because it is all completely unrolled onto a countertop and then the housekeeper is rerolling it, using her hands on the part of the toilet paper that wipes your vagina. If there is any feces particles from someone with a disease, that could be transmitted from the toilet paper. Also, the paper being all over the countertop (it is not sterile, and is never sparkling clean) is gathering whatever is on the counter and being rolled.

I am not a germaphobe, but I like to have good hygiene on my lady-parts, and that includes toilet paper being as sanitary as possible. I have also been in the restrooms and they don't change gloves from cleaning the toilet to wiping down the counters and mirrors. So that, along with everything else, just grosses me out.

I don't mind using up the last of a roll, or even if you take the short roll and stand it up on the paper holder for people to use, but to unwind and reroll? Sorry, not for me.

Seems to me that the guy (it would have to be a guy, wouldn't it?) that came up with the idea ...

... and gave out the orders ...

... should be put in charge of the re-rolling?

Do they call this "re-using" ... or "re-cycling" ...

... as the prduct was re-processed along the path, wasn't it?

(Or ... is the final use ... the third use?).
