Hey, that's the way my mother did! She cupboard drawers were full of loose recipes.

LOL, mine are in a drawer, but jumbled up in a manila folder.

Hey,that sounds like my filing system!LOL I did pick up a recipe box and some cards a couple of months ago and have been writing them down and filing them.Told DDIL she would have them when I'm gone.She laughed and said even if she had the recipe she wouldn't be able to make it taste like mine.LOL

Well, I'll admit I have a few recipes taped to the inside cabinet door and the other day I found a few others printed out and sitting in there. It was nice to have them handy. Just open up the door, need to anyway to get the ingredients and have the recipe at eye level and not getting messy. The loose ones, I'd just close the door on them and they'd be handy.

My mother used a recipe box and they were pretty organized. There were some loose recipes in the "junk drawer" but those were just ones pulled out and never used - they didn't make it into the recipe box. I typed up some of them for her and was going to do all of them but that never happened and frankly I'm happy I didn't. It's nice to see her handwriting again. Brings her back to life. One of these days I'm going to pry that box out of my sister's hands and scan them into the computer. I did make copies of some of them once or twice but I seem to keep losing them! Meant to put them in sheet protectors and into a binder but...

If you don't have her recipes you should either make some copies or scan them. Might like to have those in the years to come. If for no other reason, a backup if she loses one or spills on it!

That would drive me nuts! I have mine in notebooks, and in sheet protectors. They are mostly typed out or from the internet then printed. I still have a hard time finding them.

I use the sheet protector method. I also have more than one folder with them. Plan is, to stay organized with them. Once I pull them out of a magazine, they go in a sleeve, and get filed in the ring binder folder.

Maybe that would be a method for your mom? She would still be able to pull it out.

I use sheet protectors and binders. I bought a box of sheet protectors this summer and mom was with me. I gave her a bunch, with her having full intentions to use them, and in a binder.
Well, you know the rest.

She has papers stuck in recipe books, handwritten papers and magazine pages clipped with a spring clip, etc etc.
They're all in the little cupboard over the stove.

I have my Grandmother's recipes. Had them since 1985. Most are crammed into a manila envelope. There are some in a recipe box, but there is no rhyme or reason to which is where. Her recipes are mostly ingredient lists...no titles or instructions. Someday I'll tackle organizing them, and maybe try to cook a few. In the meantime, I enjoy looking at her beautiful handwriting!

Most of my recipes are on the backs of envelopes or any other blank piece of paper that can be found. Daughter like Mother - my Mom did the same thing. I did try to write recipes in a note book once - savory starting at the front of the book, desserts written at the back but then I gave up on that. I find a recipe I like, write it on whatever paper is handy then shove it into a cook book or drawer or stuff the paper into my small vintage recipe box.

LOL I really should write them all out on cards but sometimes when I look at the recipe I have written down I can't decipher my own handwriting! While sitting in the dark I would write a recipe down I heard on a cooking show LOL not a good thing to not see what you are writing down especially in a recipe for a baked good.

I do know one thing, my recipe for banana bread is stuffed in the recipe box and it is written on a yellow piece of paper so it is easy to find and the meringue recipe is written on a piece of purple construction paper, butter tart recipe along with my bbq recipe is stuffed in the cutting board and wrap drawer.

I just bought a wireless printer this week so if I can figure out how to set it up I just might start deciphering and printing some of mine and my Mom's recipes out.

I have to keep an elastic around my Mom's old Five Roses cookbook because it is stuffed with lose recipes.

My mother's recipes were mainly in her heart. Luckily, when I had my own household, I would watch her make things I like and write down the amounts as she went along. Now for the most part I don't have to use them either. I do have her recipe box with tons of recipes. I, too, like seeing her writing--also on the back of envelopes and one on the back of a grocery list :-)

I'm almost ashamed to say I have 4 3-ring binders with recipes also in sheet protectors. I use "word" and save in different categories so the binders are like cookbooks. I can get 3 recipes on a page most of the time using 10" font.

My most often used recipes are like cynic's, taped to the back of my cabinet doors. The bread recipe I use most of the time is right over the bread baking area......Lots of them are just stacked on top of each other in a drawer....Messy and unorganized but that's pretty typical of my recipes.

We have coated cardboard milk cartons that are just over 3 inches, or nearer to 4 inches wide, which I open at the top and cut down one side, then slide two together and staple, to be just longer than a business-sized envelope.

I save non-window envelopes (the ones with windows tend to bind when the box gets nearly filled) and use them to store my receipts for purchases, month by month, with the name of the month written on the upper corner, holding the receipts together with a paper clip.

The fact that most of the receipts are much narrower than the envelopes are high means that there's extra space at the top to make it easy to check the top corners to see which month I'm seeking and that might be more difficult if you had the envelopes filled to the top.

Such an idea would work less well if many of your recipe cards were much higher than the depth of an envelope.

You might choose to use a thicker paper, such as the weight of a corn flakes box, to cut to the size needed to label which type of recipes that envelope contained, cutting it high enough to stick up higher than the tallest recipe, and placing it in the back of that envelope.

For recipes nearly the size of an 8-11/2 x 11 sheet, you could fold them, or possibly need to be keep them in a file folder, I think.

ole joyful ... nothing like getting a useful piece of equipment, that works efficiently ... at no cost (above a staple/clear sticky tape)

P.S. If it gets dusty, cut a piece of an old sheet long enough to glue it along one side of the box and wide enough to go over the top and drop down over the front.

Then, when you need to dust - just blow! If you're enough of a blow-hard to blow out some recipes ... or damage the box ... invite a neighbour for coffee and prevail upon her/(him?) to take care of the task, O.K.? (I was tempted to suggest, " ... give you a BJ").

My recipes are in a 7X9 hard back ring binder. The front is green with sketches of pots, pans, various utensils, some meats, veggies and fruit. In several places it says my recipe book, in cursive lower case. It has lined notebook paper and section dividers, and pockets. My DH was very good at getting me little for-no-reason surprises and that was one of them. It is now 50 plus years old and well worn. I keep a rubber band around it to keep the loose recipes from falling out.

I type the ones I use regularly on scratch paper, in large print for my old eyes. I keep them in a bottom kitchen drawer, along with some small cook books I have gathered up from here and there. When I'm using the typed ones, I open a cabinet door, and close it back on the recipe. Works for me.

I don't remember my mother ever having a recipe book. She often said she never used recipes because they called for too many ingredients! She feed our large family mighty well though.

That's how I hang my recipe that I'm using. I have it in my sheet protector, clip a clothespin on the top, lay it in the cupboard and close the cupboard door. Eye level and keeps it clean.
