I plan to try it for a holiday party--served in a dog dish. (I'll buy a ceramic one for the occasion.)

Oh, that one's a HUGE favorite around here, too. My 30 year old daughter was just a little girl when we first came across that recipe. Of course, now, I save the time and mess and generally buy it at the Amish market--it's easier, LOL.

No one really NEEDS candied jalapenos. ;) I'm not saying the recipes are unsafe. I don't see any problems with the Jalapeno Candy one as it is 100% vinegar. The beans would need fresh boiling water rather than just water and her PC processing recommendations of 15# for 90 mins. are way out of line with the norm for dried beans. My point was experience teaches. Until that experience is gained it is safest to stick with approved recipes from approved sources. Think about canning the basic ingredients safely. That is what home canning is all about, not niche' recipes like these. Then you can use the basic ingredients in any number of ways after opening. Both of these recipes could just as easily be made from the instructions available from approved sources like NCHFP - plain canned dried beans to which the spices are added after the jar is opened and just prior to serving. Or from plain canned jalapeno slices which are candied after the jar is opened and stored in the fridge. Dave

Wonder if was a double portion of the below recipe that my Mom used to make many years ago. In fact, when my brother would come home for a visit or Mom would go visit him, he always requested that she make one of these. Perhaps the restaurant you ate this at doubled or tripled the recipe and just did not put the pie filling on top of it. Worth a try anyway. Cherry Cheese Pie 1 8-ounce package cream cheese, softened 1 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk (Eagle Brand is what Mom always used) 1/3 cup lemon juice 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1 8- or 9-inch baked pie shell or graham cracker crumb crust 1 21-ounce can cherry pie filling, chilled In large bowl, beat cream cheese until fluffy. Gradually beat in sweetened condensed milk until smooth. Stir in lemon juice and vanilla. Pour into crust; chill 4 hours or until set. Top with desired amount of cherry pie filling before serving. Store leftovers covered in refrigerator.

My GD will be here this weekend, I think we'll make these. So cute! I do wonder about something in the recipe, though. It says to roll the dough out to 3/4 inch thickness. Three quarters of an inch is REALLY thick. I'll probably do mine more like 3/8.

Sounds good, but I think, my opinion, ONLY, I would kick it up a notch, by adding something salty, like chopped salted peanuts, or honey roasted peanuts.

glenda, it wouldn't be good with salty.... my dd has made it for a gazillion years and it is good just as is, believe me!

I've made it since the kids were little. Very good and darn addicting! Paper bags are best for shaking it with the powdered sugar.

my dd's recipe also had confex sugar and peanut butter which glenda might like (just realized this is a different recipe) but it had a real chocolate taste.

My DD makes the recipe like Jae's DD. In fact she just made some last night since she was home for fall break. I don't care for it, but it is her favorite snack.

Yep mine was different too this one might (?) be a tad dry?

This is how I make Puppy Chow or Muddy Buddies with Crispix.
1 stick butter or margarine
1 cup peanut butter
12 oz milk chocolate chips
1 box Rice Chex
2 cups powdered sugar
Melt & blend butter,chips,& PB. Put box of cereal into large bowl. Pour melted chocolate mix over cereal & stir it up. Put powdered sugar in paper bag, add cereal mix and shake well until all chocolate is coated. Store in covered bowl or ziplock bags.

My kids love Puppy Chow - I use the recipe Nodakgal posted.

I use a 2 gallon ziplock bag to shake it up in.

It is a great treat to send to tournaments, etc. I put a scoop in a snack size bag for each kid.
