Lunar eclipse Tuesday/Wednesday

Where I live, in the prairie of Illinois, I should have a good view between 5:00 a.m. and 6:25 a.m.

It is termed a 'blood red' moon. Should be interesting.

Thanks for posting this. Where I live I should be able to see it about the time I usually get up in the morning. I'll set my alarm to go off a little earlier tomorrow.

Well, Mike... if you ever buy a home in the Florida Keys, you can count on me as a frequent visitor! In fact, I may have to rent a room! :-) Xuan, your photos are always so gorgeous... you do live in a little slice of heaven on earth! I suppose it's natural to long for some of the opposite of what we have... I long for continual warm weather and cooling rains, instead of bone chilling winters with ice and snow! I'd so much rather sweat than be forced to layer on clothing to keep warm! And I really want to be able to garden all year 'round, instead of having to be cooped up indoors for so many months. February marks the beginning of noticeable growth within the confines of my indoor jungle... and it occasionally brings blooms from a few of my early Hippeastrum bulbs. My oldest, a "Minerva", is a reliable February bloomer. I do have a few unusual bulbs that rest during summer and put out growth in winter... but the majority of my plants perk up as the days get longer. I'd love to say that this is my favorite time of year... but the Holiday Season is for children... and has become way too commercialized in my eyes. If it weren't for the grandchildren, we wouldn't even celebrate. We don't put up a tree, decorate the house, or exchange gifts... not here. We save all that for one day, Christmas Day, and our greatest enjoyment is watching the grandchildren and their delight! But for those who do celebrate, Happy Holidays to you! May you experience the joy and wonder of the season... with the love of family and friends as the greatest of gifts!

yeppers, that's my understanding. Too much to do and not enough fruitful days here lately. On a more positive note, I just finished preparing (with the help yesterday of a fabulous violet friend) over 219 plants for our sale. They have been groomed, sprinkled, sprayed and inventoried and are placed on the light stand waiting till the 25th when they get to go meet their new owner(s). Now my task is to clean up and organize all the supplies and tools and get them packed away so my family can enjoy our kitchen and bar area again. Oh - and I've got to frost my husband's birthday cake....red velvet. He'll be celebrating his 33rd anniversary of turning 29 :0 Barbara, or anyone - where do I find the lunar information without having to purchase a book that cost $25? I guess I should take teh AVM the day it arrives and make a copy of the lunar page and place it in my AV tool box. Dora

I watched this for the majority of my evening, off and on - kept running to the window to look out! I love eclipses, and I love the moon. One of the few advantages to getting up at 4AM to bring the kids to hockey practice is to be able to admire the moonlight. The last few nights/mornings in particular have been spectacular.

It's after 12:30 here and Claude and I are up waiting. We have some clouds, but I just went and checked and the moon is big and bright and clear. It should at least be visible off and on. The eclipse starts here just past 1:30, and that's when I'm waking Sophie and Benjamin up (Oliver wouldn't be impressed!) The plan is to put on warm clothes and go out periodically over the course of an hour or so. In between, we'll warm up with hot chocolate and cookies inside. Then, hopefully, they'll get back to sleep relatively quickly. I'll pay for the lack of sleep tomorrow, but it'll be worth it. I think it's something neat that the kids will remember!

I really love watching nighttime sky events, when possible. I won't be able to see much of this, because by that time the moon is hanging pretty low in the western sky.....and we have a substantial treeline and a street lamp across the street. Darn it. I'll still check it out, though.

I'd forgotten there would be another blood moon again this year. I stayed up last time and got some pictures. I was too lazy to look for my tripod and don't have a DSLR so mine pictures weren't the best, but WOW was it awesome to see.
It was so interesting to see it change from a normal colored moon to red. It sure was cold though! I about froze taking the pictures.
If I remember right the little dot was mars.
We live in the country and have a porch right outside the master suite so that's where I took the pictures from. It was redder in real life.

We had a pretty good view of it earlier when it was a partial lunar eclipse at around 5:30 but as it proceeded towards totality it also proceeded towards the horizon, and was obscured by tall trees in our back yard.

I woke about 4 a.m. and thought that the moonlight wasn't as bright in our bedroom as it had been. I caught the beginning of the eclipse, over the top left portion of the moon. I watched until I could see only a scimitar of light at the far right side of the moon, then we got *cloud cover*! Phooey. Back to bed with cold feet.

I didn't see a very bright copper. I wonder if our atmosphere got a bit cleaned up during the no-fly days after the air control fire. Maybe I just couldn't see it at its' peak.

Humbling experience.

Bob, I clicked on Jim's link and saw that you should be able to see it at 6:55 a.m., and wondered if you did. We here may have been able to, but I wasn't awake in time.

At about 7:15 last night we had a tremendous lightening/thunder storm. Huge, beautiful pinky/orangy flashes covering every inch of the sky, but heavy winds. I have DIRECTV and it went off for a very few minutes and came right back on.

No moon to view after a very full and bright scene last night - we're completely blanketed in dense fog since then. Coastal Washington.

Once the moon dropped behind the trees I could either have walked up our hill, or climbed up on the roof or just gone back to bed. I chose plan "c". :-)

A co-worker was up and heading into work around then, and she said the big red moon was just above the horizon and several people had pulled over onto the shoulder to take pictures of it.

Thank you Socks and Charlee. It looked so much better in person, but I'm thrilled I at least got some fairly good pix.
