Just got back from a week at Disney World for DGD's 2nd Birthday. Nothing like the look of a young child as they see the parades, meet the characters, see the animals at Animal Kingdom. And she was great on her first airplane flights - a real little trooper.

Now - back to the real world :)

Hey Nova! I couldn't believe my eyes, as I've been searching for the exact same type of apartment -in northern VA, but not in Alexandria! I have to move from a house to an apartment, and want to become a Balcony Gardener. As you well know, exactly how much sun you will be getting is all important, so I'm wondering exactly how much sun you will be able to offer your plantings? Will you do veggies and flowers? If only flowers, you know also that there are many that don't require full sun. Please let us know as we are interested.

Hi I live close to Disney, and go there often. It always amazes me, they have beautiful displays. This season, Tom from the Florida forum gave some seeds for the tree tomato in disney. It looks very vigorous even that I started later than my other tomatoes. This a picture taken today, it is the first one in the middle Silvia

I reckon I'm one of the oldies...LOL I do pop in and see who all has posted. I should post more...I still grow roses but have neglected them this year because of losing Mama in April. I have just been in a black hole without having her here. I think perhaps I need to crawl out of my hole, quit licking my wounds and just crawl ahead for a while. I never thought Mama would die like she did...just awful. I miss all the old rose buds too. I hate change. I want things to go back the way they were too...but alas, they never can. More like USDA 9, I imagine - I wouldn't expect this to persist up here. The genus is sometimes sold and planted, but is not seen repeatedly as a lasting feature - unlike phormiums, which are all over the place despite occasional hardiness issues.

my 5 yr old dgd just had her 5th at euro disney in paris! it helps that they live about 3.5 hrs away in germany. i know she was a little princess....can't believe she is two already!

My husband is there right now. I went one time in 2007, and it's just not my cup of tea. :)

Monica - Visiting Disney World with your little granddaughter sounds like tons of fun!

Jae TN - My first visit to the original Disneyland was for my 5th birthday too, and that was their opening year. I still remember what a great time I had, and I'm sure your dgd will too.

Disneyland is less than an hour's drive for us, and it's so long since we've gone there. You are making me think it is time to fit the Magic Kingdom into our busy schedule.

I've been there 3 times-once when an Uncle died, made a side trip to Orlando, then twice when our kids were little. Love the looks on their faces when they met the characters. We made sure to have Breakfast with Mickey. Glad you had a good time!

I gifted my gs, his dad, and mother, a trip to Disney World when gs was 4. They stayed at Disney's All-Star Sports Resort. GS is now 15.

I'm sure you all enjoyed seeing the Magic Kingdom through DGD's young eyes!

Our DS astounded us by asking if we could all go to Disney World for a vacation. He was 23 and living in on his own! We went, of course, and stayed on property.

chisue..our oldest dh and his bride spent their honeymoon on the cruise and disneyworld...they took their dd's 5 years later...

and waaay back, our senior night was at disneyland...have to lol..my date wore a suit and tie! summer of 1964...

susanjf -- We were all fashion plates then, weren't we? I wore a suit, hose, heels (and a *girdle*) departing Chicago on a plane for our honeymoon. I had a lynx fur hat, too (in a hat box). Now airplane passengers look like they're planning to go jogging or mow the lawn. (Not that I miss the girdle!)
