Check your dollar store, or some stores have a dollar section. I cannot use them due to a stigmatism in one eye.

Alnmot all dollar type stores sell them for $1

That or Goodwill is where I have always bought my reading glasses. Goodwill is $1.99 but they might be a little more sturdy, they are new.

I only need reading glasses and get them at The Dollar Tree.

If you have a "Family Dollar " store in your area the glasses are a bit more than 1.00 but are better made and last longer.

Could be wrong, but I don't think he's looking for a 'where' to buy them...

He posted above he has already bought them at the Dollar Store. I had a cataract removed last month and the next one will be tomorrow. My eye doc recommended I get them at the dollar store and they work ok, but I'll be happy to get a new prescription to take care of the astigmatisim. Hope yours work OK>

I agree, Ole Joyful, I don't see how they can make them that cheap, let alone sell them for a profit. And they are fairly good quality for a buck!

My eye doc is the one that told me to get mine at $ Tree. They are $1. I need 2.75 strength, and they're not always easy to find, so when I'm in $Tree I'll buy 4 or 5 pairs if they have them. I have them all over the house, in both cars, just everywhere. They're $5. at $ General.

I think China's cheap labor is what you were referring to....But "if" you want to start a shopping thread....by all means. lol

The main point was the "darned near slavery" issue.

I'm not sure, but I think a lot of stuff sold at the dollar stores, are stuff that didn't sell at regular stores or the end lots of merchandise where there isn't enough of the product left to warrant taking up shelf space. Then again a lot of the stuff is junk made in foreign countries by low-paid employees. I have to admit I like going to the dollar store for greeting cards, paper products, like napkins and cat toys.

I can't seem to keep up with them at all and have at least a dozen pair from the dollar tree.

I purchased a pair of REI socks prominently packaged as such at our local Dollar Tree store. I washed them once and they unravelled! lol I've also purchased red Hanes Her Way brand tank tops and unscented Dermasil lotion there.

They were all undesirable to somebody and were excess, unsellable stock. :0)

I got a bunch of pairs free after rebate from Menards so they're not a dollar, just a few cents in tax and the portion of postage/envelope costs since it was a shared mailing for the rebate. Target sells them for $1 in their dollar area. And the dollar stores have been mentioned. So as to when, the time is now! As for the cheap labor? Well, as long as there's Walmart, Kathy Lee Gifford and others profiting from it, it's going to continue. But then you can't blame them either since they wouldn't sell it if people didn't buy it. So it's the retail customer who buys the stuff who determines what's in the stores, and also what's *not* in the stores! I often see people complaining that something they like isn't sold anymore and blaming the retailer. I blame the customers for not buying it. The manufacturer would love to have it sell, the retailer would too, but if there's no beep at the checkout, there's no beep of the forklift bringing in more.

And of course, then comes the discussion on whether it's better they have an income, albeit low, or should they have no income? Guess they could go on unemployment, General Assistance, WIC, food stamps... or maybe not. They generally don't have that available!
