And to think, Glenda, I used to open my door all the time without giving it a second thought. But no more. I talk to them through my locked door. I know it wouldn't stop them if they were really wanting in, but I don't need to make it easy.

The deputy asked me what the badge looked like and if it looked like his, which it didn't.

While he was talking with me the sheriff's office talked with the deputy and informed him that indeed the men were real and from the Marshall's task force.

I did what my gut told me to do and no regrets.

Just hope they get rid of the "sore" in our condo.

I had the Department of Defense stop at my house one day. "Unmarked" black car (unmarked - but boy did it look like "The Feds".

I was outside working in my yard and though...uh oh- what did I do? Turns out they were doing back ground checks on a friend that was getting a high security clearance.

When DS was just days old, a couple of undercover cops came to my door. I can't even remember who or what they were looking for but I chatted with them for a while. At the time I was working in an ER and was used to the undercover guys stopping by the ER for coffee. After they left, my mom lectured me about opening the door to talk with them. I told her no one looked as scruffy as undercover cops.

You know, I bet like a dummy I would have opened the door if I saw the badge. Yikes. You were smart. At present I have no storm door, but I could talk to people through the glass of the entry door if need be.

I've heard of false badges being used, bad things happening as a result.

Was on the phone with a friend, and I went to the door with the phone, and told friend to stay on the line as I talked with the men.

My door is locked at all times. My screen door is a heavy duty security door with a dead bolt on it too.
I would have done the same Glenda. I won't open those doors unless I know who it is.
In today's world in the big city it's just the way it is.
When I was young and we lived on the farm in the country and I don't think we even owned a key to the door, I never saw one.

I, too, always lock the storm door in the front and the screen door door in the back. Both primary doors are wide open right now but we feel secure. It only makes common sense, in this day, to take some rudimentary precautions.

Glenda, I applaud you for exercising good care. We all hear of the nightmare stories about criminals disguising themselves as law enforcement officials. Good for you!

A U.S. Marshal's badge wouldn't look like a local Sheriff's badge! I'd be wondering why the Sheriff's deputy would be asking such a question...

Cause the badge was on the deputy's shirt, was real, and the badge from the Marshal's badge was an official one. Got it, Lindsey?

Your experience, and others like you, are why I use all three of my names. One friend was a Greg Wilson. How common are both of those names? Pretty common. Sure enough, he was able to extricate himself when he told them his middle name. Just as an example. I can't believe it happens as often as it does. I've looked in the criminal database here in Nashville, and the same person might be listed three or four times. One time it'll spell the name as Micheal. The next it'll be missing his "Jr" designation. Another time, it'll have the wrong birthdate (off by a day, or off by a year). The last time it might have all three of his names and the Jr designation. But all are obviously the same person. Crazy system! Anything you can do to ensure they don't confuse you with someone is good to do.

Lindsey I think the cop asked that to determine if someone was flashing a false badge.

Great job Glenda! I don't think twice about opening the door with a big black barking dog behind me but I suppose I should.
