Tomorrow Will Be Eleven Years

Tomorrow is Saturday October 27. On Saturday October 27 2001 I returned from morning grocery shopping with a terrible headache. I'd been having headaches since April, my doctor thought it was my inner ears and prescribed somerthing for dizziness and vertigo. Upon my return from shopping, I went in the bathroom with a full bladder. As I sat, I felt a sudden feeling of extreme dizziness come over me and I started to fall. I leaned away from the tub and lay down on a small carpet and fell asleep. Hours later my husband found me unconscious on the floor. He called the paramedics. My blood pressure was 200 over 125, I had had a hemmorragic stroke. Spent six weeks in 2 hospitals recovering. They found I had both high blood pressure and failing kidneys. Managed to return to work in early 2002 but couldn't really focus and I went out on disability within 3 years. Started hemo dialysis in August 2007, had a successful kidney transplant Friday January 13 2012. I consider myself to have three birthdays I celebrate-my original day in November when I came into this world, Oct 27 when I nearly died and January 13 when my life was saved by a miracle, an organ donor and a skilled surgeon.

Wow, you've really been thru the wringer! Scares me as I just complained to my husband a headache I've been having since yesterday. hmmmm

Happy Birthday X 3, sounds like you have been through a lot. Thank goodness for medical science and just a reminder to never take life for granted!

Thank-you both Duane and Sherie for your thoughts and support. You don't know how much your comments mean to me during this extremely tough time. Saying good-bye to my best friend was the hardest thing that I ever had to do. When I said my final good-bye to him I thanked him for being such a great dog, for making me laugh and always cheering me up when I was down. I told him I didn't ever want to say good-bye to him, how much I loved him and how much he meant to me. I then told him that he would always be with me. He was so sick yet he still pull his last bit of energy together to lick the tears that were rolling down my face for the last time, I then had to walk away. I can't help continually listening for his bark, and my body keeps telling me to go check on him. I miss him so much, my home seems so empty without him. I know time will heal my broken heart but it is so hard right now. I miss petting his silky velvet ears, and seeing his happy face when I got close to him. I really don't know what I will do without him, but I know all he ever wanted for me is my happiness and this gives me the strength to get up in the morning. I love you Bruiser my pup.

You are welcome Ann! Sue - the injection was a HUGE success on the fried turkey. It was really bland the first time I made it even though I had dry marinated it. This time is was very flavorful and moist and tasty. Here is the marinade mix I shot into the bird. BTW, I pulled the skin aside and injected into the flesh of the breast, thighs and drums without puncturing the skin itself. I think that may have contributed to the flavor staying in the meat too. Cajun Injection Marinade This is the classic solution injected into the meat of turkeys which are fried Cajun style. By getting the flavors inside the meat you won't have to worry about the hot oil washing them off. Make sure you distribute the injection evenly so you don't get large pockets of the mixture. Prep Time: 15 minutes Ingredients: Â 1 cup lemon juice Â 1/2 cup liquid crab boil Â 1/2 cup olive oil Â 1/2 cup butter Â 2 tablespoons onion powder Â 2 tablespoons garlic powder Â 2 tablespoons Cajun seasoning Â 1 teaspoon Tabasco Â 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper Preparation: Combine all ingredients in a saucepan. Heat until butter is melted. Stir and continue heating until sauce is very liquefied. Inject while still hot enough to stay liquid.

LOL.....I don't think you are going to break the routine now. I have seen in pet supply catalogues automatic dishes where the cover rotates on a timer and can be set to dispense food at given times. Of course this would mean a dry food, and I'm not sure what you normally feed Toby. Perhaps a soft morsel tidbit in the a.m.s would suffice if he is not on dry kibble. They aren't that expensive....maybe thirty/forty dollars if I remember right. I think that's a cheap price to pay not to be awakened at dawn every morning by a hungry cat.

You are certainly a miracle! Having come very close to dying myself, I know how that alters your outlook on life. I guess your mansion in Heaven isn't ready yet, or there's more for you to do here, for which we are thankful and hope to have you around for a long time.

I have missed updates on the latest surgery on your arm--was the third time the charm? And is everything still great from the transplant? Hugs!

Yes the third operation on my dialysis arm "fistula"' was successful. It's much improved,I saw my kidney doctors yesterday and they thought it looked fine. I'll see the vascular surgeon again soon, just for a re-check.

Jannie, Happy Birthday x3! You are truly an inspiration. With all that you had been going through, you always managed to visit the KT and be a strong support for those in need. Hugs to you!

I see Dink post often on the cooking forum. I have been tempted to ask her there, but don't want to call her out. Sure miss her here.
