Denture adhesives, dementia, and neuropathy

Dotmom's post about mouth sores prompted me to post a question: Are those of you who wear dentures aware of the risk of denture adhesives containing zinc? It has been found that these adhesives deplete copper from the body, and this can lead to cognitive problems and/or neuropathy.

Here's one of many websites that explain the risk. If you Google denture adhesive zinc you'll get more information. Fixodent and other brands contain zinc. Some manufacturers have come out with zinc-free formulas. It would seem to be a good idea to switch.

I don't need denture adhesive - my top denture fits great and the bottom one doesn't fit AT ALL - I simply don't wear it.

DH has had his dentures since 1972 and used fixodent or several others, with nary a problem, and surely no cognitave problems at age 83.
