Look what I found on the golf course!

As I was hitting my approach shot into the 5th hole today, I spotted this chair that had been left near the dumpsters off the 6th tee. I have always wanted one of these.... it was still there after the round, and we managed to squeeze it into a small car, so it was meant to be. :) I checked it out and only see cosmetic damage and some very cool decorative weaving techniques. I should be able to repair it. I'm so psyched! :o)

So, I'm on the right track, thanks :) thanks for the link. Course#1 was built in 1925 by our Cottagers Association, it is flat, and the soil is very sandy. There is no irrigation, and the course has never(as far as i know) seen pesticides, or synthetic fertilzers. After 10 years of improper mowing the course was looking really bad, so i took over three years ago. After 2 years of only consistent mowing the turf improved exponentially! Last season i started using corn to fertilize. I except some impressive greens out there this year. Course#2 was built in 1978 by a local guy for his own use. THis course has a system of three ponds, it is hilly, and is beside 6 acres of maple sugar bush. The soil varies form hard clay, to black loam, and everything in between. After years of pesticides and synthetic fertilizer and inconsistent mowing practices it was starting to look shabby. I started working out there three years ago, and again, just consistent mowing has improved the turf. I started using corn to fertilize out there last spring on the greens. WOW!!!! THe results have been incredible. I overseeded the fairways on both courses last fall,should be some nice fairways this year. These courses the perfect place to 'showcase' the organic approach. They are highly visible to traffic and are quick to play, and they are free (donations gladly accepted ). My focus is to keep costs as close to zero as possible, let nature do the work. :) Just waiting for the warm weather to wake up the turf...

We may not be understanding the issue. What exactly is the "engineered substrate"? A system of pipes? Gravel? A special polymer? How deep is the dirt above this "engineered substrate"? However, any plant that likes sandy, well draining soil should be happy there. In many way you are artificially simulating a beach. Your options are: 1.) Planting trees that like sand dunes. (I doubt the engineered surface drains faster then a beach, so anything that likes beaches should be happy.) 2.) Watering regularly. (Only problem with well draining soil is it dries out fast...water it enough and everything will be fine.) 3.) Cover the whole area with a thick layer of organic material. Compost mixed with clay. 4.) Creating "raised beds" with heavily amended, organic soil, and planting trees in those. Trees that should be happy with super-draining environments include crabapple, Eastern Red Cedar, Pitch Pine, American Persimmon. Probably many others, but I've been looking into trees for sandy soils and those names came up.

We live in a rural golf course community with no limitations in our covenants for grilling, entertaining, etc. Cart paths are clearly identified. Our home is across from the course. The interior lot was chosen because we wanted a walkout basement and privacy in the backyard. Real estate taxes are less for my 3300 sq ft house than a 2000 sq ft house at the country club comparable homes. Our homeowners insurance is not increased, nor my neighbors based on past conversations. The course is privately owned by two families and has been open for 40+ years. We are not assessed any fees for the course and pay for a membership. It is open to the public and we have had no serious issues. Sometimes golfers get rowdy or are disrespectful to the greens/tees, but it always gets back to the clubhouse. We love living on the course. Hubby plays every day after work and twice a day on weekends. Our kids love the setting and I have a 3 year-old grandson that is going to be a golfer. Our one golf cart is now two. One for us and one for the kids. Golf course living is not for everyone. Your course may be in a more affluent area with a lottery for lots. Best of luck in your decision making.

I used to have one of those sin the black accents. I used a piece of carpet foam, covered in brown velvet and added it to the round part(tied on ) with a matching cushion.....wish I'd taken a picture. My sister came for a visit .....made fun of it....and Goodwill got it...:0)

No....I don't miss it. It wasn't comfortable to sit in....and was too funky for my decor. Buuuuuuuuuut.....I hope you enjoy yours!

What a great find! My mom paid $69 for mine 40 years ago...

nicole, I am actually surprised at how uncomfortable it is! why are these so popular as wedding chairs? lol! No matter... I think it's going in my game room and it didn't cost me anything but 15 minutes of trying to wedge it into a car. :O)

I thought you found a turtle or a frog or a cool mushroom or maybe even money. I found $70 in folded bills on the golf course once. Never did find the owner. I tried. Really.

I got one of those free by a dumpster once too. Had it on the balcony when I lived in the apartment.

I also found it uncomfortable, but a great conversation piece. :)

Mine stayed at the dumpster when I moved.

I had one too when I was about 19. I thought it was so cool. Not terribly uncomfortable, but then I was a skinny kid. :)

Yours is really nice looking, Party!! And the price was definitely right!! Nice find.
