They could be coming from your plant soil. I had this happen a couple of years ago, and that seemed to be where they were coming from. I think they called them fungus gnats, if I remember correctly.

Fruit flies love water. Check all your drains and houseplant pots to see if anything's there, if you can find any hovering flies, the "source." A shot of House and Garden Raid on the plant or some boiling water down drains will get rid of them. If your plants are sitting it water, dump them out and let the soil dry.

Fungas gnats often show up through the winter, when daylight is not as bright.

If you have houseplants and the soil is too damp, fungas gnats thrive.

You used to be able to buy yellow sticky tape at WM and nurseries.....probably still can get it at nurseries. These come on a stick and you stick in the soil and the bugs stick to the yellow sticky.

Something else I've done that works terrific, though I seldom get gnats, is to pour very hot water through the soil. Believe it or not, the plant won't suffer but it will kill the eggs. Make sure your pot drains well, though.

I do the boiling water.

Instead of yellow sticky tape you can use yellow plastic knives and coat them with vaseline.That works as well.

We had kids for almost a month this past summer and lots of fruit.
Kids left and that day we noticed the fruit flies!!!! Grrr. I tried the vinegar and soap etc. caught a few but didn't help much. My niece said put a piece of fruit in a dish and cover it with Saran Wrap, then use a toothpick to poke a some holes in the Saran Wrap. Leave it sit on the kitchen counter. I used a small chunk of cantaloupe. Wow! It worked fabulously!
You do have to take the dish outside and open the Saran Wrap and let them fly out but you wouldn't believe the number in that dish in just a couple hours! Bring it back in and make sure fruit is covered again and your back in business to catch the next batch.

this might gross you out,but odds are they are coming from your sink drains....try putting some drain cleaner,or even baking soda and vinegar,followed by boiling water in the drains,then put the plugs in whenever you finish using the sink/taps....pay attention..you'll notice after a day or 2 that they are gone

DD had LOTS of flies in her guest room and in case they were coming from the attached bathroom's shower, I poured a pot of boiling water down the drain. End of problem.

I have learned never to buy potted plants from our grocery stores. They sell the potted plants in the produce department, and boy do I get fruit flies from the soil in those pots. I have had to throw out too many potted plants over the years (gifts usually).

Fungus gnats and fruit flies are two completely different critters. Fruit flies won't be found flitting around houseplants and their soil. Look for them in the kitchen or around the fruit basket.

Fungus gnat larvae feed on the peat moss and other stuff, including tender plant roots in our container plants. They require poorly drained soils (too wet too much of the time).

And THEN there's drain flies...yet another pesky critter found in its own separate habitat.

taigen, if you let us know where you are finding your little flies, we can narrow down which type they might be. Then you'll be on your way to solving the problem! The 'cure' will depend upon your culprit.

We had a wonderfully warm fall. In the evening the gnats/fruit flies/teeny tiny bugs came in everything you opened the door. In the morning the bathroom was a sea of dead bodies, all centered around the night light. We started lighting candles around the house. It took them out faster and kept them at bay. Now that the weather is cooler no more annoying bugs.

Tomatoes ... bananas ... beans ... peaches ... grapes - all ... gone!
