Oh yes my niece had one for a very long time. A few of the other kids did too but not as serious as the one my niece had. I could probably remember her name if I worked on it for a while. She was like part of the family. I have never asked her about it since she is an adult with kids and grandchildren of her own.
I think it shows a very creative mind. And my niece is extremely creative and everything she tries she excells at. I have 2 amazing big stained glass fleur De lis pieces made by her hanging in my living room over the atrium windows. Her jewelry is amazing.

So I think it's a good thing!

I have heard that children that have an imaginary friend are very intelligent. I don't know if that is true but I have several nieces and nephews and the only two who had an imaginary friend have their doctorate. Again I don't know if it means anything.

Try to write things down if you can. It will make a good thing later is life as part of a story. My DD wrote a real cute story about little green men when she in her preteen years in the early 60's. It ended how everyone gets along regardless of race or how they look.

I had an imaginary friend when I was very young. We lived in an area with no near neighbors. My parents used to tell a story about an incident with my 'friend'. We had a visitor, a single man who was a college friend of my father. We were all going somewhere in the car and my mother asked the visitor if he wanted to sit in the front. He replied no, he would sit in the back seat with me. He got in and started to sit down when I started yelling. "You are sitting on Wobber." He jumped out and looked, no one there. My parents had to explain about my 'friend'. Soon after a sister arrived and Wobber disappeared.

I'd guess that 'only children' are more likely to have invisible friends. I did, but only briefly, I recall my mother saying. I remember that I was sure my dolls had real feelings. I insisted that six of them had to be tucked into bed with me -- alternating which two would have the *privilege* of being closest on either side of me, to be 'fair' to them all. (I I love the TV commercial where the little boy falls asleep and his toys come to life!)

I took care of all seven of my grandchildren when they were growing up. Not all at the same time. They didn't go to preschool or daycare so I had them until they started kindergarten. My one granddaughter would stare out the front room window for a long time. She had a friend that always stood in front of the same tree. When I asked her what she was looking at she would tell me it was her friend. When asked what her name was she would say "it's a secret Mema. Her brother and cousins were always disappointed that they could not see her. Tayden, who is a young adult now would tell them that she was her friend and didn't want them to see her. She also is quite intelligent.

My now 17 year old grand daughter had an imaginary pet dog that she called Spot. One day she said grandpa its Spots birthday today we need to bake him a cake. So they did. It was so fancy with the sprinkles that they used with the icing. She said I think that Spot will love it. He also enjoyed many tea parties too.Spot disappeared when she started school. Every now and then we will mention Spot and she gets the sweetest smile on her face. I guess boys have replaced Spot. Love your grand daughter's story too.

My daughter had two imaginary friends, Weedo and Monster. Monster was not a scary friend, that just happened to be his/her name. My daughter is also an only child, BTW.

Today Amber, Alyssa and I went shopping. I asked where Fink and Frank were. Oh, they are outside feeding the fish.. Sometimes they go feed the chickens and stay in the chicken house.

Our daughter had imaginary little twin girls when she was little. They were the best little playmates for her, but as someone else said, they disappeared when she started school.

My older daughter had an imaginary friend, a little girl named "Sicky" or maybe "Shicky" who lived outside in my daughter's playhouse.As my daughter got older and made real friends, Sicky disappeared.

My sister, when very young, had an imaginary friend. We lived in a small farm house out in the country and was isolated from the rest of the world all week. In the summer, our social contact was mainly the weekly trip to town on Saturday to buy groceries and a trip to the church on Sunday morning. For the remainder of the week, we were home bound and had many chores to do to keep the farm running. This isolation may have been a factor.

This imaginary friend came out of the closet mostly on summer days when my sister was outside. They had conversations and did adventures together, and there were whispered secrets. My sister kept this friend past the age of 10. I thought this was a bit peculiar, a sort of Alice in Wonderland world.
