DIL, the pretty one on the left, and the old one, me.

Celebrating her 44th birthday, a day early.

She had Stuffed Cabbage Leaves "Lahanodolmades"

cabbage leaves stuffed with rice and ground beef in an

avgolemono sauce of eggs and lemons

and I had my usual, Spinach Pie "Spanakopita"

I have done the very same thing--only to regret it tremendously. The fruit that touches the ground rots, the fruit off the ground hidden in the jungle mass of branches rots from insect damage that I can not monitor, and the fruit on top gets sunscalded and rots. I lose most of them. Can you tell I don't like sprawling? Having said that people in your area (from what I have read here) let their plants sprawl all the time without enduring all the problems I encounter so I would not attempt to raise them. They are a pain to pick on the ground but you should not have the total loss I get.

"I struggle with the idea that I won't be my boyfriends top priority" OMG get real please...are we still living in fairy tale land? You sound like a 13 year old girl with that glassy-eyed viewpoint of "love" is all about. You praise how wonderful he is and what a great, involved father he is...but that's not enough for you. Sorry, but as one of those dads who has always been extremely involved with his kids and also makes them his "top priority", it's always really pissed me off when I see posts like this (yes there have been others saying the same thing). Read the zillions of posts in this forum about all the loser uninvolved, deadbeat dads out there who want little or nothing to do with their kids....maybe you should find one of them, because quite honestly this guy (and his little girl) would probably be better off without you, unless you seriously alter your view on how relationships really work, not the movie/fairytale version of them.

This is all over the East Coast too; saw this in Harlem, NY when I worked there back in the nineties. Funny, back in the fifties when I went into NY (I always liked to dress casual)I loved to stand on the street and just watch all the people walking to work, the men in their suits and ties with shiny shoes, hair neatly trimmed, the women with their hair neatly styled, wearing dresses (nothing is more flattering to see a skirt go back and forth as a woman walks), heels, stockings, and carrying a handbag and sometimes wearing a hat. Oh those were beautiful things to watch in those days- even today in the ads the girls- they aren't even women- have such slinky poses and look like they work on the street and the children, but since when are children children anymore- they dress and are taught to act like miniature adults.
