I do! A few months ago, sold a car I had for almost 18 years that I bought new. Sold it to a 16 year old for her first car; the daughter of someone my son works with. He showed me a picture of her under the car changing the oil. Brought a tear to my eye.

But we all have to move on. Enjoy the new car!

I do know what you mean. But if you feel that way why are you replacing it?

I'll be sad to leave my 4Runner at the dealership tomorrow, but the sadness will be eclipsed by my excitement at picking up my new (used) car. However, I'm so attached to my big, beautiful Caprice (still thrilled to drive it after 18 years!) that there's no way I could sell it.

An Avalon is on my long-term wish list, BTW. I always thought it would be nice to have one.

I know what you mean. My car was totaled a couple of years ago and I still miss it at times even though I bought a new one.

I had to sell my 1996 Honda Accord about a year ago. It was getting too many miles and too many years for me to feel confident about driving any distance. I just loved that car. It took me to work and home without a complaint for all those years. It was the first car I chose and paid for totally on my own. It was just the right size and "zip".

When I got it all cleaned up for trade in, I hid some lucky pennies in it so it has a good rest of it's life.

I now have a newer Honda Accord and I cannot warm up to it. It is nice to drive and has all kinds of bells and whistles, but it is so big compared to my old car. I just don't feel like I can whiz around town in it the way I did with my old car.

Waaahh, I want it back!

The Avalon was over 18 years old and at that age, not something we were willing to do some heavy traveling in. It's great for many more years of town travel.

I hope that the new one lasts many years.....I FAR prefer debt free driving than new cars every few years.

What is it about the number 18? Your Avalon was 18, Dees had her car for almost 18 years, and I've been driving my Caprice for 18 years. LOL

5 years ago, when my son bought me an 02 Fi50, I had a 98 Chevy Silverado I couldn't sell. I finally told my brother, who wanted a truck since he was 6, that if he wanted the Chevy, he'd have to come the 900 miles to get it. And he did. And he loves her. He bought a used CK2500 about a year after that, but he babies that truck and the 98 is his winter (NE OH) truck. I'm so happy that truck (with so many memories) is in a good place!

Susan, what kind of car did you decide to get?

I don't keep my cars long at all, and I only regret selling one of them - my Mercedes Benz SLK230. So, yeah - I do know how you feel, in that regard.

The others? I just get tired of them/bored with them in short order (after a year or so) and trade them in on something else.

I always feel sentimental about my car. When I was three, my parents sold their Oldsmobile to my Aunt. I cried and got hysterical.

Yeah, it bothered me to leave the 4Runner behind this morning. And when I got home I realized that I don't think I have a photo of it. Strange, because I photograph everything. It was a beautiful vehicle. I used to think of it as a vision in silver. :-)

Dedtired, I followed your lead and left a penny in it.

Well, I drove it into town this afternoon to deliver it to the new owner, boo hoo. We drove it around the campus where she works (with my husband), so I could show her where everything is and how it all works.

I told her that she looks good in it, lol. Even as old as it is, it is still a beauty and the interior is pretty much perfect.

Alisande, that is so neat. Doesn;t it make you feel like it will always carry a bit of you around with it? I do hope my old Honda has found a loving family. ;)
