I Can't Wait For Dinner!

It's finally cooled off here in FL. It was 50 degrees this morning at 8:00, so I'm making a big pot of vegetable beef soup. It's simmering away on the stove and smells so darned good!

I used my Valdalia chopper to chop the carrots, celery, onion and potatoes. (I highly recommend one if you don't already have it.) Had to laugh since I read the Veg-All post earlier. That's what my soup looks like--Veg-All. Everything's all chopped evenly. LOL!

Corn, BBQ chicken (cooked slow in the oven) and deviled eggs (that's it - I told you guys I'm not in a cookin' mood! LOL)

Deer loin that's been simmering in the crock pot all day, mashed potatoes, corn, and brownies for dessert.

Isaball, I just love that golddust! It's funny, Mason's never been much of a toy dog. He likes to tug with me but his idea of playing with a toy prior to Jovi's arrival was to rip it apart as fast as possible and see if he could eat the inndards before I got them. (Tennis balls he can "pop" quite easily, powerful jaws.) As a consequence, he only got toys when closely supervised. Well, now there are toys all over the place. The first week I was obsessed about picking them up so Mason wouldn't have access to them. (It's not the ripping up I care about, it's the eating and possibly causing an obstruction.) I finally figured out that the only time he picks up a toy, balls included, is when he wants to "tease" Jovi. He really is a very special boy and I hope some of him rubs off on Jovi. Maire cate, I'm so glad you're enjoying the photos! I really like GSDs and Rotties too. I just like big dogs and if they bred smaller Dobermans then I'd probably have stuck with that breed. As it is, I wanted a smaller dog too. That sofa and loveseat are old, about 12 or so years old. Our dogs have always been allowed on them and we've never had a problem but I keep their nails very short. How often I do them depends on their growing stage. Whit and Mason as mature adults had their nails dremeled once a week. When Mason was a pup, his nails grew so fast that I did them twice a week. Right now everyone is getting their nails done every 2-3 days because I'm teaching Jovi to accept the dremel. She did very well with it this morning! I'll try to get some new photos later today. It seems that one of Jovi's ears is trying to change from semi-erect (flopped over tip) to fully erect. I've never had a BC before so I've got no idea if this is common or what....I've sent a question in to the breeder's Yahoo group. Anyway, my little girl has one ear up and one flooped today. Oh and Marie cate? Just because I understand what you mean about size issues with a Dobe, that doesn't mean I need to make it easy for you. :-) A few more "baby Mason" photos to keep everyone until I get some new Jovi photos.

Hi everyone. It really is so nice to meet some more aussies here! I tend to frequent all the forums as I like reading and I love plants. I also post when I think I can help someone. Merrylpateman, thanks for your reply! I've been to Geraldton many years ago so have probably driven past Dongara. I looked up where it is on google maps. It is a nice area of Australia! No, I don't do anything to protect my DR's from rain. They don't look as good as the ones I see on this forum though, so Rachel I won't be posting any photos as there are also no flowers on mine at the moment. Greenclaws, I hope you have a lovely holiday in Oz! Peter, I had a look at the rare imports website, Just for a browse. Not that I am in W.A. though. Thanks for that, I found it interesting as I love looking at plants. Well everyone, happy gardening and take care.

Beautiful photos, Lisa! I am celebrating Mel's comeback and sending sympathy for your garden frustrations. (Insert Munch's The Scream.) Our roses are like children exposed to the perils of the world. I hover a lot. Helicopter parent of horticulture. I would dearly love to find a spot for this Barden beauty. After reading your story and Jeri's, I feel I need it even more. I like survivors! I have 3 ramblers on my possibilities list, Ghislaine, Pink Ghislaine and Mel's Heritage. Mel is at the top. But where to put him? Maybe I can start a roof garden. Ha, ha. Carol

Well, I had dinner for lunch per usual. Cereal tonite, healthy cereal, that is with a slice of two, of a very ripe banana!

Italian stew in the slow cooker. Hot Italian sausage with peppers, mushrooms, celery, onion in a tomatoe sauce. A glass of red wine and then served with salad for me and pasta for DH. Yummmmmmmmm!

Earlier this afternoon I made Buttermilk Fudge that someone posted for me many moons ago. I'd saved the recipe and made it today finally cause I once again had leftover buttermilk!
OMG is it GOOD!!!!!!!! I am hoping to save some for later in the week when DD and the boys and Maddie and DS will be around....but I can't promise there will be any left!

**sigh** I sure wish I'd saved the name of the person that posted the Buttermilk Fudge!! IF this is your recipe PLEASE let me know!

This is what I had saved:

I promised this to nodakgal yesterday for her leftover buttermilk. This has been a family favorite of ours for as long as I can remember. It has such a unique flavor that is SOOOOO good!
Buttermilk Fudge
(This will boil/bubble up as it cooks, so use a large pan Â we use a 3 quart.)

1 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon soda

Place these two ingredients in large kettle and let sit for 3 minutes.

Add:
2 tablespoons Karo syrup
2 tablespoons flour
2 cups sugar
1/2 teaspon salt (or less)

Cook slowly to hardball stage, stirring nearly constantly.

Let mixture cool.

Add:
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 tablespoons butter
1 cup nuts (we like pecans)

Beat until creamy. (You can do it by hand if you are strong and tireless. We have used an electric mixer and it turned out fine.) When the fudge begins to lose its gloss, it will get thick very quickly!

Pour into buttered container or onto buttered cookie sheet. Let cool and cut into squares. (Prepare to indulge...)

(PS: If you make it and it doesn't ever get thick, pour it into a pan and pass out spoons. It is just as good to eat that way! And if you only cook it to the softball stage, it makes a wonderful frosting to drizzle on cake!)

Cool here too. This morning it was 34 when I got up. Had ham and scalloped potatoes and a veggie casserole for dinner
