My trip to the dentist was such a shock

He told me my sinuses were infected and were pressing on the nerve in one of my teeth and causing all this pain. I almost fell out of the chair. I couldn't believe I could get off that easy. He said to continue the antibiotic and Vicodan (not) and let him hear from me if it doesn't get better. It wasn't even the tooth I thought it was that was hurting--it was the one above it. He says he sees people all the time that don't know which tooth is hurting, they just know some tooth is hurting. Boy!! am I happy!!!! Y'all ever heard of this? He says sometimes you grind your teeth at night b/c your sinuses itch. Geez!! I was totally prepared for a root canal or extraction. He's made my day.

I have heard of that. It is often difficult for a patient to tell if it is their sinuses or tooth that hurt.

A place I've wanted to visit is in Jackson, Ms, the reconstructed home and gardens of Eudora Welty. The book, "One Writer's Garden, Eudora Welty's Home Place" shows pictures of how the reconstruction has been done. The book indicates a number of old roses have been replanted in that garden, which were original to the home when Eudora and her mother lived there. I'd love to see Elizabeth Lawrence's home and garden in Charlotte, NC, Wing Garden, mostly because I am a big fan of hers. In South Carolina there is a topiary garden, Pearl Fryar Garden in Bishopville, that I've wanted to visit as well. It seems amazing from what I've seen. I agree with Ann above about visiting the Vicksburg, MS civil war memorial. The cemetery, the grounds and the exhibits are really interesting to see. The wonderful hydrangea gardens in Birmingham, Al, Aldridge Gardens, are worth seeing and should be blooming if you're going soon. I am sorry I never made it to Bellingrath to see the rose gardens there. The botanical gardens in Huntsville and Nashville are worth seeing. The Hermitage, Andrew Jackson's homeplace and gardens, is worth a trip if you're in Nashville. I first saw a chestnut rose in that garden there. The Natchez Trace is beautiful, I think. There is also a beautiful garden, or at least was 30 years ago, south of Shreveport, Hodges Gardens. I saw a lot of beautiful camellias at that garden; I don't know what it's like now, but worth checking into if you're going to be in Shreveport. I've always wanted to see the beginning point of the Mississippi River up in Wisconsin. I hope you have a wonderful trip; it's one I'd like to take as well sometime. Take care, travelling solo!

You make some good points, however I don't believe the vent free alliance is an evil org. that only cares about profits at the expense of customers health. I believe that they feel their products are safe and there is a lot of hype about them and they are just trying to get some facts out there. I would not recommend vent free as a primary sourse of heat, however I have found my blue flame wall heater as an exellent compliment to my woodstove to offset the air drying effect of the woodstove. The house is not very air tight and perhaps I wouldn't feel so comfortable running it if the house was very airtight. The oxygen sensor is pretty foolproof in my opinion, the pilot flame will change it's angle in a low oxygen enviroment and the pilot will go out, not sure how it could malfunction as there are no moving parts. BTW if someone is a smoker, any concerns over vent free would be silly, as the harmful things inhaled from a V/F would pale compared to what comes from ciggies.

To debbie_ab: Lake-of-the-Woods lies at the southwest corner of Ontario. It is a large sprawling body of water filled with many islands and bays. It sits on the north boundary of Minnesota between Rainy River and Kenora. It is a fisherman's paradise and a place for canoe adventure. However, one can get lost in it so one must be prepared. The highway from International Falls and Kenora runs across one end of it affording stunning views. Water flows northward out of it into the Winnepeg flowage at a control dam in Kenora. This water eventually flows through a hydro-generating station at the White Dog dam and on to Lake Winnepeg in Manitoba. An observation: The islands are rocky with shallow soil. The dominant island tree is spruce with poplar growing in the deeper soils. Spruce do not have tap roots and is happy to allow its roots to spread laterally over the rock to find cracks and gouges. A spruce can grow to good heights, however, on these islands the height of spruce is limited by storm winds. When a tree attains a certain height, it gets toppled by storm winds. Therefore, when is out on the water, one can look in the distance at an island or land and gage the depth of soil by the average height of the spruce; The taller the spruce, the deeper the soil. I am located a long away from Kenora, but I have fond memories of several summer vacations spent on my parents-in-laws island in the Winnepeg flowage out of Minaki. That is truly a wonderful place, but with hazards. An injury can be problematic unless sufficient plans have been made beforehand. The Canadian Government has done a good job of managing that land trying to balance recreational, logging, Native's Reservation, residential and development. A large parcel is kept pristine where the fish and beaver may play.

We have a gas stove. I touched the fume hood with my forehead and was shocked. I saw a small electric discharge near my head. My elderly mother was also shocked. My brother put his forehead on the fume hood at the same time he touched the edge of the stove top with his hand. He received such a powerful shock, it knocked him backwards onto the kitchen floor. I googled this page and saw others had the same problem. We called a stove repairman who said the stove was fine. We called an electrician and he spent hours trying to solve the problem, crawling around in the ceiling and checking our wiring. It turns out that the stove was not properly grounded. The electrical wiring in our house is from the 1950s. Almost all the outlets were only 2 slit outlets. We have had several 3 slit outlets installed. Even so, there was no connection to the ground. As a result, the stove was not grounded. Electrical current was trying to run to the ground but since there was none, the current was running continuously through the stove and all metal surfaces. We are relieved the problem is finally fixed!

I have this happen a lot!

I've always had sinus problems, have had several sinus surgeries to clean out infection that antibiotics didn't take care of.

Sinuses can make your whole head ache, my top teeth hurt really bad when I have sinus infections. And since I live in humid Florida I always have sinus issues going on.

You are not out of the woods yet! Sinus infections of that magnitude indicates that the sinus cavity is not draining and more problems msy be on the way. Get to your doctor pronto.

I had a similar occurence several years ago. The problem was let go too long and the blocked sinus cavity eventually broke through. My upper lip went partially numb. There was permanent nerve damage. It turns out, I had a 'fungus ball' that was blocking the drain. Had to have an operation to open things up. The nerve to my upper lip was damaged and it did not fully recover. Get thyself to the doctor!!!

Same thing happened to me 2 years ago - I had a cavity filled & it ached & ached - I went back to the dentist & believe it or not - had him REDRILL IT - and then he looked at x-rays & said my sinuses were filled & it was allergies! I have taken an allergy med ever since.

Oh, I'm often a victim of 'referred pain' as it's called.

And I have a condition called Trigeminal Neuralgia--it's a condition of a large, 3 pronged nerve on one side of my face. When it acts up, I could swear I've got an abcessed tooth, but if I wait it out, a few days (and a handful of motrin) later it completely goes away. Still, if I have any questions or doubts, I check in with my dentist, because there's always a chance it COULD be an abcess.

Glad you've gotten an 'easy' answer and will be feeling back to normal in a few days--without a major dental procedure. Good luck.
