Question about later in life Pregnancy's

My SIL is pregnant and she is 46 years old. She has always wanted a child but it never happened with her first marriage. She has recently been remarried. I personally have not known anyone to have a child in their late 40's. I am concerned for her because it will be a high risk pregnancy and she wants it so bad! Bless her heart; I hope it all goes well for her.

Has anyone known somebody who has gone through this and how it went.

I work with several women who have had babies and been termed Later in Life pregnancies...They've all done great...The last one I know of was 46 and had TWINS...yes she had help getting pregnant...but she's a fit of health and doing great and so are the babies!! Just tell her to follow dr's orders and I bet she does just fine!

The only suggestion is find a Dr. and medical center who has been trained in this. One thing I am aware of is Diabeties. Many do get it, along with high blood pressure. I wish her the best.

It can be extremely serious. I have thyroid disease and on a daily basis it affects me, I would think when pregnant it would definitely make one have some special needs. Are you sure it is hyper not hypo? Either one is still a serious condition. Pregnant women with hyperthyroidism can also develop high blood pressure, and are at greater risk of heart conditions." All of the facts above would be enough in itself to cause a pregnant woman much anxiety and stress not to mention the actual condition itself and the risk to the baby. Not every pregnancy is the same and each person has their own situations which impact them and how they react to them, it is important for those that are the support team to help relieve them of some of that stress and be supportive. It may not be how you would have handled it in your own pregnancy but you are not carrying the baby and you are not enduring the stress so try to help and stay positive it is the best thing for that precious little life.

I got pregnant with my third child when I was still nursing my 10 mo second child. I had periods before that and I didn't spot when pregnant or as a first period. I suspected I was pregnant right away because of how I felt. I had that sort of twitchy PMS feel for a couple of days and my period wasn't showing up. I kept running out of breath and energy when I was trying to run around and play with my two boys. I took two pregnancy tests on two different days and they didn't turn positive until three hours later. Technically, that is a negative test, but I figured that the line wouldn't show up if the pregnancy hormone wasn't present. I did get a positive test at the doctor's office a week later. Maybe someone who had an experience more like you are asking can post. Congratulations! if you are pregnant. My three kids are close together in age. It's a busy life, but fun.

Well, I've never been pregnant past the first trimester, and it's been eons since the last time I was pregnant (I was spayed in '91), so I'm no help there... But, I have fainted several times. And always in church. The last time was when I was in high school (and that was last Century!). I am Catholic, and my fainting in church was a direct result of not being able to eat anything before taking Communion. And we always seemed to go to 11:00 or noon Mass, so I would have been without food since an evening snack the night before. I would think that your not having eaten anything before these almost-fainting spells would be a strong factor.

Donna, good luck, it sounds like you have a lot going on. Life doesn't get boring, does it? I often freeze things and can them later, mostly fruit for jam because it's so much more pleasant to make jam in January than it is in July! As Dave said, though, sometimes texture suffers. If you're going to make mincemeat or relish, though, you could probably simmer it enough to thicken to a point where the watery textural difference wouldn't be noticed. Annie

My Cousin was 42 and had Faternal Twins (Hereditary). She did great! And her Mother was 40 when she had a Baby. Did Great!

My Grandmother was 43 when my Dad was born and he turned out great!

My sister had her youngest when she was 47 and he was healthy and very bright. He started college the same year that she was eligible for Medicare! I had my youngest when I was 32 and I thought that was OLD. Times have changed!

My SIL was in her mid 40's with her second child. She had no problems at all, although they did watch everything more closely. Of course with it being a first child it is probably a different story.

My niece had her first child at 45, then twins 2 years later. I didn't hear about any problems other than the 'normal' pregnancy ones. Other than the fact that she now has 3 kids under the age of 3 right now, everything seems to be fine.

Mom was almost 45 when she had my youngest sister. No problems for her either, except she went pretty much from pregnancy to menopause!!

My mother was 42 when I was born...no problems at all.

My husband's mother married an older man when she was in her late thirties. She had grown children and he had grandchildren, and together they had 6 children in 6 years.
She was 38 when she had the first of those 6, my husband's oldest brotehr, 39 when he was born, and then had a baby at
40, 41, 42 and 43. The baby born when she was 43 died...had spina bifida. She also died a couple of years later. They were very poor, but I wouldn't worry much at all about anyone who was pregnant and healthy and had access to good health care.

One of my cousins had her only child at 46 with no problems. She is now 61 and the mother of a 15 year old. He has always been very spoiled and coddled. Her husband is well into his 70s.
