I am looking for a treadmill but I have no idea what features to look for or even what brand is best. Does anyone have a treadmill and can give me some ideas on what to look for? I would like a folding one and I plan to walk at first but you never know, I might start jogging too.

When we got our's I made sure it had a decent handle to hang my clothes, lol......I don't use it but DH tries to walk almost every evening...I'm afraid to go near the darn thing...(Could be flash backs of failing the dreaded treadmill test at the hospital).. Ours doesn't fold up but I'm sure there are all kinds, with just about anything you want....Good luck in your search...

We have a "Proform Cross Walk 365s", bought it from Sears. Have had it for at least 5 years. I did get the extended warranty on it. With the EW they will come out and give it a check up each year when you call. I've had them out once to look it over. Nothing wrong with it at all. When DS lived with us he used it most days, running on it in the winter. With just DH and I now, it gets used a few times a week in the winter.
Ours does fold up, has an incline (not me!), takes your pulse, shows distance, time, calories, etc. It's a good thing. In the summer I have been known to hang wet towels on it.........but just in the summer!

It would seem that the people commenting that the treadmill doesnt make noise, are the owners, and of course notice nothing when using them. All nevhanical machines omit noise levels, and with a 150 to 300 LB human bouncing and thumping on this nechanical device, you are absolutely going to get noise, , and more importantly on the ceiling and wall vibrations below. So put away the PC considerations. Noise nuisance laws, were created just for this instance if one neighbor abusing the quiet peace and repose of another, dont move the treadmill move yourself into a house, or gym, when in doubt use a noise meter in your home than multiply the effect by all the weight thumping in the neighbors ceilings at all the repeated intervals of your exercise program. Get real, obey the law, your desires dont override common decency and your neighbors, because you think it does. The courts are full of civil cases just like this, for exactly the same reason. I THOUGHT I HAD THE RIGHT TO USE IT IN MY OWN APARTMENT. Then the judges tell you to wake up, and cease the nouse nuisance or repeated action will result in up to a $500 fine. GO AHEAD MAKE MY DAY, BEEN TO COURT FOR NEIGHBORS WHO CLAIMED TO HAVE RIGHTS, TO STEAL THE FREEDOM FROM THEIR other NEIGHBORS. Hope this common sense counter consideration helps the honest hearted in this tread discussion.

What to use to protect hardwood floor with treadmill in home gym?

Scratching comes from movement. Denting comes from DROPPING something. Since the machine will be PLACED on the floor (no one is going to drop it from an upstairs balcony). Staining is something you may have to deal with. You may not. Yes the feet may have rubber on them...but the small amount is fine. If it does stain a little bit, you can be content in the knowledge that you can always hide it with an area rug AFTER the work out machines are gone. Trust me when I say this, rugs and mats and rubber stuff can cause WAY more problems to a hardwood floor that 4 rubberized feet (per machine). If you really are worried then remove the hardwood (nope, not kidding) and store it. Then install some cheap cork flooring in there and go for the works you want. When you are done with your fitness studio, you remove the cork flooring and reinstall the hardwood. There. No harm no foul. But you don't NEED to do anything but put the machines down and live your life. Wood is AWESOME at being a floor. That's why the world has been doing it for 10,000 years (probably more...but historical records are hard to find on the subject).

Peloton has a huge following but I think this is very much an individual thing. I did a lot of research around it since I was looking for some kind of exercise equipment that didn't take up too much space. I used to run but a busy work schedule and some pandemic weight have made that less fun than it used to be. I was walking for an hour daily during the summer but couldn't squeeze it into the shorter days after the time change. I went back and forth between a bike and a rowing machine (Concept II was highly recommended.) In the end, I decided a bike would take up less space and be more likely to get short daily use. I still wasn't sold on spending $2k plus a subscription, so I bought a $500 Sunny brand bike w/a flywheel & cadence monitor. It's a knock off that's been around for a while and some people like it as a substitute for the Peloton. You can still do Peloton classes if you pay for the app (which as other PPs said has a ton of other exercise options.) For me the bike has been a decent investment - I can use it anytime, it doesn't disturb anyone else in the house, and I'm very much a solo exerciser - I have never done a spinning class, never done any group exercise classes at all. The big advantage of the Peloton is the huge screen. I have a device holder and read Houzz or Twitter while I bike, but if you're someone who will be motivated by the class environment, you definitely should get a Pelton or one of the other bikes with a built-in screen.

I have a gym quality Trimline fold up treadmill that I use daily. It was expensive when I bought it seven years ago but I've never regretted going with a professionally constructed model. It's much heavier than most "at home" models and much more stable...which is very important if you anticipate working up to jogging on it.

Mine has built-in exercise programs which I rarely use. I can manually set the speed and incline level...which is what I do on a daily basis depending on how energetic I'm feeling. I walk at least a mile a day....but if I do it at the end of a long, busy day...I'm less apt to want to set the speed any higher that 2.8.

The display panel tells me the distance that I've gone...the time it took to go that distance and the # of calories burned. The treadmill has a safety pull pin which I, personally, think is very important. If I fell and the pin pulled from the slot...the machine would shut down immediately. I've never had it happen...but I'm glad to know it's available.

At the time that I purchased this Trimline...the retailer who sold me the model couldn't get the next model up that had a heart rate display. If I ever replace this treadmill...that's an option I want and would suggest it to others. Otherwise...I'm more than satisfied with just the basic options noted above. It was far more important to me to buy a sturdy piece of equipment than something with a lot of toots and whistles. I don't use it for weight loss. I was diagnosed with diabetes seven years ago and I use it to help control my glucose levels. It's been so helpful to me that I was recently told by my Dr that I'm no longer considered a diabetic. Between a low carb, low fat diet and my treadmill...I've conquered diabetes...and extended my life span. I find that pretty amazing considering that it only takes perhaps 20 minutes out of my day to walk that mile on my treadmill.
