this is a meringue cookie in the shape of a snowflake.

this is the pattern...

(lines from one tip of snowflake to the tip from the one across from it should be 3 1/2 or 4 inches. pic. seems smaller. don't know how big it will print out)

I found a little pamphlet from "Leisure Art" from 1995 in a drawer. thought I'd share it.

Snowflake Meringue Cookies

4 egg whites

1 1/2 sifted confectioners sugar

1 teaspoon almond extract

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar

Coarse white decorating sugar

Trace pattern onto tracing paper. Cover greased baking sheets with waxed paper'

In a large bowl, beat egg whites until foamy. Add confectioners sugar, almond extract, cinnamon, and cream of tartar, beat until very stiff. Apoon meringue into a pastry bag fitted with a small star tip. For each cookie, place pattern under waxed paper and use as a guide to pipe meringue onto waxed paper. Sprinkle with decorating sugar. Allow cookies to sit at room temp. 30 mins.

Bake at 200 degree oven for 2 hours.

Leaving cookies on waxed paper, remove waxed paper from baking sheet while cookies are still warm, cool completely. Carefully peel away waxed paper. Store in an airtight container

Yield: about 2 1/2 dozen cookies
