Almost wedding day!

Connie....how are you holding up? We only have a few days until the weddings!!! I can't wait....I'm beat! I think we're done with everything now. We have the rehearsal and dinner Friday night...that's on us, so I need to finish up the details on the dinner today. We also have Austin for the entire weekend..so getting ready for the wedding on Saturday should be hectic. We pretty much have charge of all 3 of the boys because eveyone is in the wedding. We'll manage, I told DS if I look at bit haggard and beaten down in the pictures to remember that I had all THREE boys to get ready also! Things are looking good though.....how are your plans coming along?

BTW I made the recipe for the black beans, salsa and chicken last night, the one Connie posted ...it was sooooo good! My neice called and she had made it too...she wanted to thank me for passing it along to her. It was a keeper....

one hint! don't dress the boys till the last minute...i swear it's the only way to keep them clean, lol...

if you have any hot wheel cars or games, it helps...

SO GLAD you tackled that one, ken! LOL Actually, I didn't find him as 'cranky' at all--but he IS 'to the point' without a lot of 'dressing it up'! He's right about the 'Mars' and 'Venus' thing! We gals can 'think' and be very intelligent but we usually kick into the 'feelings' of a thing, ultimately and react and act from that base. Guys--from Mars, are to the point, logical (in their minds--MOST of the time) and really have a hard time figuring us 'feeling' gals out. For instance: Why can't we just lash out and get over it--right? I think ken is someone you need to meet and spend time with, (in person) in order to understand he's typing like he's thinking, quickly to the point, fast in and fast out--with little emotion, which includes irritation or anger!! I'm not saying he may not have a moment or two of crankiness, on this forum (at least it does come across that way SOMETIMES--who doesn't have those moments, anyway?) but I really think he genuninely does not see how what he types, CAN come across that way at times! You have to know, that we cannot know the mood of any of us when we try to communicate this way--the one typing or the one receiving the words, used to make a point! I'm glad I got to meet him and figure this part out and now I can visualize him saying what he's typing, and how he's REALLY saying it, and I can just see him making those quips as in person, not crankily but 'quick to the heart of the matter' (as previously said) with little rehashing or dressing it up! I had come to think that he reminds me of a man I use to work for, and I was right--his delivery and way of communicating is very similar, and after I sort of figured him out, (that his bark was much worse than his bite) we got along just fine!! If he DID seem cranky, I'd just ask him (in a teasing way), "Why are you so grumpy today?" He seemed to appreciate that I'd hit him head-on rather than turning and running out crying and feeling all hurt and sulking the rest of the day! :o) Did I describe you even close to your reality, as you see it, ken? As a professional photographer I have had the opportunity to see an entire wedding day and weeks later hear the bride's opinion of the day's flow. Listen to your church coordinator, florist, photographer & other wedding pro's advice. A private, romantic meeting before photographs start actually creates the first of two exciting "reveals". It is an opportunity for the couple to exchange wedding gifts ALONE. It will be the only time you have together the entire day. The second heart-pounding "reveal" moment is walking down the aisle. It will always be a memorable moment for both of you even if you've seen each other earlier. Shorten your photo request list if you insist on doing them after the ceremony. It will take two hours only if you give the photographer a two hour list. Your parents, family & friends are anxious to attend the party, not pose for photos. At this point you are on an adrenaline high yourself & wish you could just pop over to the reception. Now that carefully planned pose list has become an obligatory nuisance. Please do not keep your guests waiting for several hours during a cocktail hour. Yours may not be the only function they are invited to that day. I personally arrived at a reception as a guest, waited an hour and a half for the couple to appear (they had photos at a park after their ceremony) but had to leave for another social event. A reception is the time for the couple to "receive" their guests. Many times I have heard brides say "Oh, they'll entertain each other" in such a flippant manner. Many have such selfish attitudes toward guests: "Those bothersome guests should just drop my gifts by the door & leave me alone". Yes, this is your special day but don't throw social graces out the window.

Here is a general list of things that you may find helpful the day of: bobby pins (black and/or gold - depending on hair color) safety pins (various sizes) needle and tread (various colors - for you and bridesmaids) pen notepad lotion deodorant perfume tissues lipgloss lip liner lip stick concealer pressed powder clear nail polish single nail polish remover pads tampons pads/panty liners gum mints seamstress chalk (for stains on dress) bandaids small personal electric fan asprin/tylenol/advil umbrella (depending on where you live) extra hosery hairspray handy wipes cash ID credit card Flip flops camera (disposable or small) all your contact names and phone numbers (make copies for wedding party, vendors, and any helpers) If you don't have a cell phone, get one that you may use for that day (I think convenience stores sell them and you can just buy one that will have a couple hours of time on it). The best advice I can give you is to have someone help you bring as much of the things as you can. My DH was in charge of the marriage license and his attire. I had helpers who brought the things for the reception (guest book, toasting glasses, favors, cake knife and server, seating chart, etc.). My Mother and I bagged everything beforehand. The wedding stuff - dress, shoes, kit stuff I listed above, headpiece, veil, undergarments, etc. all came with me and were bagged together. The reception stuff was in another bag and we brought it and gave it to the helper who was going to bring it to the reception. The wedding party was in charge of getting their attire together. My MOH helped me get the kit together and put it all in a cute bag that she brought from where we got ready to the wedding and then to the reception. It was very helpful. Just let people help you as much as possible. Don't stress out if something gets left behind, because most things can be found at a local drugstore and the hotel. I did a lot of organizing and planning, but the cake knife and server were left behind. No biggie - my sister ran to Williams Sonoma and bought one. The most important thing is to remember to have a good time and try to remember and take the day in - It really does go by quickly. Best wishes!

I served something similar the Sunday morning after our wedding. We invited the bride's relatives, groom's parents, the single girlfriends, one couple from my college days from far across the country, and the wedding party and their dates/spouses. We kept it smaller at the bride's request for a quiet brunch. That turned out to be a wise decision as she needed some down time. I rented 3 large round tables (the size for 10) that filled the patio. Also rented chairs and tablecloths. The groom's mother had sent us home with several rehearsal dinner centerpieces, so we used them liberally. We invited a little over 30, all of them from out of town. I set up a catered buffet in the kitchen, and as it was August, we ate on the patio. I served mimosas, quiche, bagles, croisant, fruit, juice, coffee, iced tea, cheese plate, and sausage. If I were to do it over again, I would skip the bagles and croisants and cheese as almost all of them were untouched. Definitely serve mimosas--makes it seem festive. The bridesmaids and groomsmen were all flying out that afternoon, but it seemed the older guests were driving up the coast for additional vacation. So people left as they chose with the older guests leaving soonest. The bridal party were all checked out of the hotel, so we entertained them a few hours till time for them to leave for the airport. It had turned grey, in fact the sun never came out that day, but originally the bride and groom were going to take them down to the development pool to swim and relax till departure time. But everyone just relaxed for a couple of hours in our family room and kitchen and enjoyed the time to chat about the whole wedding weekend and laugh at some of the goings on. The honeymoon departure was hours later after everyone had left, so the groom relaxed and watched a game on TV while the bride took the last chance to do some laundry and packing before they left for tropical islands. Getting ready for the last minute details here too Vikki!There is so much you can't do til the last minute.
We can't get in to do any of the reception decorating til sometime that morning! I'm glad Heather is doing things very simple. I have GF and DSis and DSIL's to help and they will come running if I ask. Also at least 2 of the Grooms sisters will help anywhere needed. I have a hair appt at 9 am that day and then will be going to the reception place to start there. Gotta take all the food down that morning too.
I am afraid its going to be a long day for the GB's too. Maddie and Drew need naps, don't ask me how Maddie will nap with her hair done!
Still having a problem with someones mother on the wedding day. I tell ya that "someone" can be the worlds biggest pain!
Maid of Honor has a problem with her dress, we gotta do a quick fix this wkend.
Still don't know if pregnant bridesmaid is coming, last we heard she was! LOL
My dear Uncle Gene is sick with some respiratory crud the nursing home has!!! He is in such a fragile state right now. I hope and pray nothing happens to him. He gets sick and it gets bad very,very fast.
I keep taking lots of deep breaths here! It works for about 5 minutes! Bwaahahaha

I've been wondering about you both. Saying silent prayers and taking deep breaths for both you gals. What an exciting day!! Bet both weddings will be wonderful (notice I didn't say perfect, 'cause I don't think any of them go without a glitch or two.)

Hope you get lots of pictures to share. And hope you both have a great time!!

Wishing wonderful wedding days for all of you and long and happy marriages for the couples. My sons' wedding days were two of the happiest and proudest days of my life. My late son's baby was 10 weeks old on their day, so I got to hold him through the service (his bottle came in handy) and keep him for that first night. On the day, I am sure you will both be able to relax and enjoy and make memories. Beth

maybe you can take your uncle gene some cake and pictures in the next couple of days if he can't come...

as for the napper and her hair? good old tp wrap, lol...or explain to the hairdresser you need it kept in pin curls you can brush out later? have her mom get a cheapie satin pillow case...

Connie what time is is yours? Ours is at 4:00 but we have to be there at 2:00 for pictures. DIL wanted them done first of just the wedding party, family, etc. Right after the ceremony they will have theirs taken. Different but I guess it works. The wedding planner is setting up the reception for xtra $$ ..they said it's worth it to pay her and not stress. She only charges 40.00 an hour and she said she has a girl to bring with her and she'll pay her out of her $$. It shouldn't take more than 90 minutes she says.I got my hair cut tonight so I don't have to deal with hair that morning...my DS is kind of upset because I am not going with DIL's mom, and the wedding party to get hair and makeup doen that morning, but I told him I'd rather have the kids with me and know they are being watched in all of the chaos....and there is nobody else to take them all. He says it's not fair that I always have the boys....that's the way I prefer it though. It will be hectic and they will need naps, not sure when and where though! Keep your fingers crossed everyone! We will have Austin from Friday morning until Sunday night. I will be tired but it'll all work out.

Vikki, The wedding is at 5:30. I think our pictures are at 2 also...I think thats too early for us, but the Bride wants to be done by 4:45 the latest. We can leave the pics with GB's in them til last, but its all got to be done before the ceremony.
We are either going to try short ringlets for Maddie's hair or put it up if possible, so nap is going to be tough.
