I/ve been using Chapstick a lot of times a day, because my lips were dry, chapped and sore. The stuff didn't seem to last long at all. When I was grocery shopping I was going to buy another tube, but the price was over $2. (I pay a lot less at Walmart) So I bought a little jar of Carmex because it was only $1. 39. Boy, what a difference! I only put Carmex on about three times a day, and after three days there is a major difference. My lips are soft, moist and not at all sore. No more Chapstick for me. Carmex from now on. Dottie

Our friend stumbled on this trick by a happy accident. "Last year I ran out of my eye cream. It was winter and very dry and I wanted to put something underneath my eyes before I went to bed. I tried my Carmax [lip moisturizer] and not only did it work, I felt like it worked better than my eye cream. It has the menthol in it, and it cools the under-eye area. I use it every night, and it absorbs into my skin. I think it does wonders!"

You guys are hilarious! Here's my Mothers Day story. When I was just about two, my sister and mom began to explain to me they wanted me to #2 in the potty. My sister, who was 5 tried to explain this in baby terms apparently saying that big girls do not poop in a diaper. At least that is what I heard. So one day when Mom was doing laundry in the basement, I was upstairs in the playpen (gasp, Mom's would never do that now, but it was probably Mom's refuge from me in those days!!). I guess I thought that I needed to either make sure the diaper was cleaned out when Mom came upstairs, or I was turning into a little artist. I think you know what I mean! Needless to say, Mom was mortified, I got in huge trouble (and was apparently out of diapers and completely potty trained in a matter of weeks) and dad had to do a lot of sanding and re-finishing of the woodwork in the DINING ROOM of all places. I was very tempted this year to send my Mom a t-shirt that says "#@&% Happens" but instead I sent her a gardening shirt!! GGG

I would recommend washing them by hand, in Dawn dish soap. It took bacon grease out of my washable silk shirt! You can always rinse a second and third time in the washer.

I am addicted to chap sticks, I have one on my keychain, several in my purse, several in the side table drawer where I watch TV, several in my desk here at home and several in my desk at work. My all time favorite to wear and smell was Redkin lip moisture lipstick, but they discontinued it. Sallys beauty supply sells some i like in different flavors, and Avons plain lip moisture is good too. I have tried them all and will use anything in a pinch. If I am out shopping or anything, and don't have something on hand for my lips, (as you can see is almost never) I will find the first store i can buy some at. Usually it happens when I am out of town, and not in my own car. Crazy huh?

Please excuse the hijack anitamo. Those who have been through this know. You "handle" it until something pushes a button, which anitamo's post evidently did for me, especially Pal's link to the soft caps as I was talking about that with my sister the other day. I so appreciate the support, ladies. I'm super private as I believe it's impolite really to burden others. Everyone has problems, tragedies and crises in the course of a lifetime -- no one needs anyone else's. I believe in sharing the happy stuff -- I put up 2 favorite recipes on a new thread mtn started. Both really delicious. I've always had a very high stress tolerance and have an ability to thread my way through chaos. But losing younger siblings is a killer even when you're not close. My next younger brother passed suddenly 4 years ago. Now my sister is sliding away. It's like standing on a large island that's your life/family history and watch huge chunks fall off. I don't mind it changing me. I always have been lucky and I'm blessed in so many ways in this life. But my sister has had much to overcome and not a great deal of happiness. The idea that she must go so early and with so much pain and disability seems really cruel. Enough. Thank you all for your good thoughts and prayers. Big hugs to you. I so appreciate the empathy and support. It really helps.

I would be careful about using anything around the eye that was not made for that use. The product could travel into the eye. Carmex contains Salicylic Acid. Salicylic Acid is the stuff that they put in wart remover to burn off the wart.

Be wary of putting stuff around the eyes that could damage contact lenses too.

Here's my favorite lip balm. I send and get 10 at a time. That last me over a year. If I'm in Arizona, I buy some, other than that, I send for it.

I have to change off on the carmex and chapstick...after using one for awhile it quits working so I use the other...

I've bought every brand that has ever come out...most don't work at all...just make the feel better for a couple minutes.

If I can't find carmex in the roll up tube...I put my jar in the microwave and melt it then pour it into an empty chap stick container. It sets up when cool and works just like the chapstick, as a tube. I don't like putting it on with my fingers...I always get it under my fingernails.

I use Dr. Dan's lip balm.
My dermatologist recommended it, much cheaper to order online at their website. works good, it's healing.

Avon sells "Slick Tint" that is wonderful. I get about 3 of the Glossy Wine version when it goes on sale for $0.99.

I remember hearing at some point that some lip balms have camphor in them which is a drying agent. The more you use, the more you need to use!
My name is Trinity and I am a lip balm junky.

I have become very picky over the years, and have probably tried all of them over the years.
My favorite, Redken lip conditioner was discontinued suddenly and I am still going through withdrawal trying to find it.
My next fav is flavored lip balm sold only at Sallys beauty supply. Rasberry....yummy.
My third fav is cherry chapstick. Not bad, but again, it tends to need to be used constantly. Not good.

Anybody else want to share their favorites?
I insist that they smell and taste good. Some of the earthy ones kinda gag me.

Now, if I can just get off the nose spray addiction......

I'm a junky too

Chapstick brand has a new 100% natural lip balm that I like. It's softer than the original kind. Cherry chapstick is the only flavored kind I can use.

I used to use Carmex all the time but thought it was actually drying my lips more and felt like my lips would tend to sun burn when I used it.

Someone on the KT suggested the tube of plain vitamin E Moisturizing stick (99Â¢ at Walmart) they are white tubes with three gold E's on it. I bought several and dedicated one to rub under my eyes (upper cheeks)

I am also using Burt's Bees now too

I was a Carmex addict but it did dry my lips. I switched to Neutrogena lip moisturizer with SPF 15, loved it. Of course, now I can;t find it anywhere! I do have a sample of La Mer lip balm that sells for way too much that I love!

I use the chapstick lip moisturizer with spf 15. I used to use the avon one, with the spf, but when I moved I lost my avon lady.

I tried many, but most feel either waxy, or I need to reaply and re apply to much.

I had one of those neutrogena ones before too, and really liked it. To bad, I can't find them here either.

Just an FYI ... another use for chapstick is keeping your skin from staining when coloring your hair. Just run the chapstick along the hairline before coloring. Be careful not to accidentally cover the hairs themselves though.

Jodi what a great idea Keep a couple around for uses other than on your lips I put red nail polish on a couple for other uses.
