Anyone know where you can get cheap air fare?

Besides the usual Orbitz, Expedia and Travelocity. I have checked all of them and they don't have such great prices. All of them have been sky high. I guess that is the problem when you have to make last minute travel.

I've gotten my best deals from Jetblue directly. But they don't fly everywhere you might want to go. When I went to California, I found they fly to Long Beach.

The focus should be to prevent, or if necessary, to decrease the severity of the shock. So buying container grown plants shipped in their container would be best; these can be planted directly in the ground with good results. But if the tree is sent bare-root, there will of necessity be root damage and transplantation shock, and this setback can reduce the vigor of the plant for years. The best remedy I've found to lessen the shock is to provide an optimal environment for the stressed and damaged roots to allow quick recovery. This goal is much better achieved in a pot, where growing conditions, including most importantly the medium and the moisture content, are more readily controlled. It really makes no sense to plant a struggling shocked pawpaw in topsoil with resultant loss of many of the damaged roots and prolongation of the shock state. The focus here is on the short term problem of allowing roots damaged by bare-rooting to recover; once this has occurred, evidenced by vigorous vegetative growth, the tree is ready for planting in the garden.

Thanks for the advice, though I haven't had any luck with CL (Posted twice now). It would be easier if I were a bit handier andn could make one myself! There are a few groups that have meetings or the like to show you how to make one (I think that there was one at Whole Foods recently), but I might just have to make this a project when I have more time to tinker. I might try Freecycle again after the baby is born, not much time to drive around for pick ups!. ;-0 Thanks! Jen

How many do you need? Local nurseries often give away used pots in 4" and 1 gal, the one I worked at did. We charged a few cents for the bother of giving away the larger pots. One nursery on town has a bin where customers can drop off empty pots, and others can take them. You'd have to scrub and sanitize so thats your cost. For larger sizes look up a local landscaper, they would gladly give them to you instead of hauling them to the dump. Trust me, I do a lot of planting for people who buy, but don't want to do the planting. I have tons of pots and have given them to anyone who will take them. One lady stopped by a job I was planting and asked for the pots. she got over 80 from us the following day. Our Dump will take them but I have to drive them there, and there is no outlet for recycling, so personally I'd rather see them be used again. Its the green thing I guess.

Idea for preserving cheap air compressor - paint inside of tank?

The moisture that condenses in an air compressor is very clean water and therefor very aggressive. Attempting to paint the interior of the tank with no control of coverage will not work. You will still have some moisture condense on the tank walls above the paint and will have increased corrosion at that point. Also, any place that the paint doesn't cover, or covers thinly (and you would have no way of knowing) will corrode and then trap water between the paint and the metal causing localized corrosion, which is much worse. As the paint loosens and flakes off (and it will), it will cause you further problems. The tanks are designed to handle the relatively small amount of general corrosion caused by water condensing in the tank. As long as you drain it, your tank will still be capable of holding pressure long after the compressor has ceased functioning.

Clare, did you call various airlines and ask about their bereavement fares? Generally they seem to be about the same as what you can get online, but it doesn't hurt to ask. Oh, I just remembered that you're not attending the funeral. Are you?

Thanks - I forgot about Priceline. And Jetblue comes up on one of those outfits. I also am checking Southwestern directly. DH loves to use them when he has to travel on business. To me, all the airlines are the same.

sjerin - Thanks for the kind words. My Mom hasn't made up her mind yet, but I want to have the information just in case. I am still thinking of going to IL to stay with her for the next 2 weeks to help her get past this point.

we found a yr ago that most lower priced airlines don't do bereavement fares when we had to go up for my grandmother's passing. i primarily fly southwest and they don't offer bereavement fares. we needed a flight oct 07 from orlando to midway last minute and paid $1100 for dh & i. we fly that same route several times a yr, before the huge increases this yr of course lol, for $300 together, fares this yr have been around $500. we could have flown united into o'hare for $200 less but the limo would have cost almost that much more since o'hare is much further away. we decided to stick w/ southwest since i've flown them for 20+ yrs w/o a single problem and we were on a very tight schedule and could not have everything go off perfectly. good luck maybe w/ the reduced # of flyers you might get a bereavement fare. ~ liz
