From my hike yesterday.....I climbed to the top of a mountain and was rewarded with this view. The hike wasn't long (15 or 20 minutes) but it was steep!

A small cactus in bloom. The plant itself is the size of a golf ball.

My mom and dad just a couple of years before he died. (They were married 57 years.) Daddy had just had an old army buddy visiting him and they said he stayed and stayed. Right before he left, he made this photo of the two of them. I told my mom that they looked happy. She said, "Happy!? He was leaving! We were DELIROUS!!" LOL Sorry it is so HUGE. It would not let me edit the size.

Yet more photos from the air show last weekend... One of the mascots of the USAF Academy, this is a Gyr-Falcon named Destiny. This species is native to the Arctic Circle, but Destiny was found in Colorado and likely would not have survived in the wild.

Susan, yup, Red Wing shoes are made there, too. I have an uncle that worked 40+ years in the tannery that made the leather for Red Wing shoes. The area has some bluffs so you can get some spectacular views of the city. It's the very beginning of the driftless area in southeastern Minn. Bigbaby and I live about a half an hour away. Gorgeous pictures as always!
Ron-I have that same cactus.We were fishing on the Rio Grande about 25 years ago and I spotted it on the side of the steep rocky bank above the river.DH climbed up the bank and got it for me.It was the size of a baseball and had beautiful fuschia flowers on it.It has survived being dug up and moved 3 times,run over by a bulldozer,chopped with a weed eater and smashed by a pickup truck tire.It is now in a pot on my deck and is about the size of a volleyball! Still has beautiful blooms every year.
