... rarely use anymore?

For me, it's the Mr. Iced Tea pot.

Now I just make refrigerator iced tea (put the teabags in cold water, tuck into the fridge overnight, add a bit of Splenda--or not--and ice, that's it!).

Our appliance choices (and by "our" I mean all of us, not just mine) are so personal -- it's fascinating! Like trailrunner we spent over a year just doing research on appliances. For my husband, who does the vast majority of the cooking plus we're vegan, having a separate all-fridge and all-freezer was a must. Based on our research, talking with owners / repair centers, we easily chose the Thermador 30" freedom all-fridge and all-freezer columns. It's been 2.5 years and we're still really happy with them. There was a problem with the freezer's CPU (?) but it was taken care of quickly and fairly by Thermador. We were pleased with how they handled it. My husband also insisted on a continuous grate gas cooktop. Because I have a problem with things boiling over I needed sealed burners and separated wells (so the boiled over fluid wouldn't go everywhere). We live at high altitude (5400 ft), so we needed high BTUs, plus my husband is Japanese and does a lot of high-heat Asian-inspired cooking. For us, the Thermador 36" six-burner cooktop was the right choice. It is super easy to clean (we're messy) and we're happy with its performance. I love to bake and I'm only 5'4" -- I desperately wanted a french door or side-opening oven. This was the thorn in my side as when I started my search Gaggenau only came in either 24" (am I remembering that correctly?) wide double ovens or a single 36" oven, and holy cow is Gaggenau expensive! Jeez. But then I became obsessed and Gaggenau was going to release a 30" double oven ... so I did it: Gaggenau 30" double wall-oven, side-opening. So expensive but I'm still so so so happy with my side-opening ovens! Use them every day, every single day. Truthfully, the baking is fine. I know there are many Gagg lovers who rave about the superior baking from their Gaggs -- I think it's fine. But I will tell you this: it heats up quickly, the fan is quiet, and the controls are easy to use although not intuitive. Everyone who comes over needs serious instruction in how to turn it on. Our microwave is a Sharp R-1214 over-the-counter which is, you know, a microwave. It gets the job done. We didn't want a countertop microwave nor a built-in where we'd have to have the fancy grills, so this was it which wasn't an over-the-range (didn't want or need the vent). Our dishwasher is a Kitchen-Aid, one highly recommended by Consumer Reports. We knew we wanted hidden controls (little "helpful" hands), super-duper quiet and it had to have a grinder. Our previous dishwasher was a mid-range Bosch and it did not have a grinder. My husband refuses to wipe off anything before it goes in the dishwasher (I wipe into the garbage -- I refuse to rinse), including popcorn kernels. I think it's a dumb move on his part but by getting a dishwasher with a grinder I can at least not have to deal with a flooded dishwasher. I was furious when that happened. Anyway, so far so good! We also have GE Monogram 24" refrigerator drawers. Perfecto! For our needs (and I'm including budget here) they perfectly meet the bill. They are easy to open / close, easy to clean (all things considered), hold everything we need them to .... Our vent is a remote blower Broan. I can't remember anything else about it, but it's powerful and has the remote blower -- the remote was the issue for my husband.

Yep, Cj, it happens! It may have taken a lot of foot dragging, but it's done. :) Thanks for the kind words, everyone. And, yes, Taggie, that's seriously my hood and cooktops and counter and backsplash and cabinets. :) At the very right of the photo you can see part of the window casing. The pictures really are coming soon. :) It's just that I want to do it once and do it right. I won't wait to polish the hood or get the one light bar adjusted. That's maintenance, not finishedness. :)

I used to do the licensing in a nearby town. those going door to door were considered 'peddlers' and needed licensed also. for them that involved a police background check - fingerprinting and they had to carry a photo ID badge. That I made for them. Surprise - one day when I went home for lunch - to find one at my neighbors painting house numbers on the curb. Imagine his surprise that I didn't believe he had a license... lol! If he did I'd recognize him - and he would have recognized me. I called the city PD to come check him out/run him off. our city was serious about keeping strangers/unknowns out of the neighborhoods-they encouraged people to report anyone suspicious in the area, including anyone going door to door who could not produce the photo ID card. privacy: at this point, my bedroom window faces my tv/computer room window... my front door faces my back door - lol! living in the country on over 2 acres, I don't worry a lot about who can see in. I usually sleep with a section of my bedroom curtains pulled back. I'd move into the new place with no window coverings except the bedroom - those windows I'd want covered while sleeping. my boy used to be cabled out front close to my window so no one could get near it w/o me knowing. temporarily he is penned in the back while work is being done. I'm sure i'll end up with something on every window but it's not a priority right off. It will be by June - to block the sun/heat tho. outside - I don't think too much about being seen when I'm on the land - there aren't that many people around me yet - and about half of those in close view are gone during the day. but I will be having new people to the west of me - I'll be planting numerous trees on that side very soon. probably 4 fast growing evergreens! it's more that I just don't want to see them than concern that they see me. The number of homes close to me (w/in 5-15 acres) has tripled in the past 12 yrs! on the back and west side I'll have to put up some sun blocking coverings for summer time. In the summer I'm closed up pretty much (from the sun/heat). Late Oct thru late May I like things pretty open- except on the very windy days when dirt is blowing everywhere.

Bread maker to DD, rice cooker to DD, and big Kitchen Aid mixer, which she uses and loves. But we don't do the cooking like we use to, but she does share the goodies.

Food Processor tops the list for me. It was a wedding gift, and I think after 25 years it has been used 5 times. It sits in the appliance cupboard...just in case!!

I don't use my food processor much. I have a blender that I use rarely.

But I'd be lost without my electric knife though, I use that for everything! It's great for fresh bread, baguette, turkey, ham, roast beef, etc.

I don't have many other small applicances that everyone is listing here, I never saw the need for them (no electric pans, no waffle maker, crockpot, toaster oven, coffee maker, rice cooker, can opener, bread maker, etc).

Our Mr Coffee coffeemaker that we got as a wedding present in 1980.

We keep it around for company to use... we don't like coffee.

When we moved from our home to an APT. I downsized...a lot. I did have a GT express, but that got tossed recently because the non-stick wore out and it became too hard to clean. Other than that, we have a Mr Coffee, toaster a small chopper, fry daddy and a hand mixer. Some I use every day, others every so often.

Blender hasn't been used in decades. Seldom use the waffle iron. Hair is so short I don't need a hair dryer. Don't use the deep fryer as often as I thought I would :( and I've never even tried the iced tea maker. I'm thinking of trying refrigerator tea, and was going to use the tea maker this year, even bought teabags but have been buying bottled tea. Found a brand that's drinkable. Come to think of it I have a food processor I've never taken out of the box too. Guess I should have a garage sale or do some gifting or donating.

Never use the bread machine, Atlas pasta maker, or food processor. I still make most of my own bread (in the kitchenAid), fresh pasta (rolling it with a rolling pin) and I do my own chopping with a knife and board. I find it's far faster to do those things by hand, than to use the fancy appliances.

Have to admit, I rarely use the Forman at the moment, but that's because with dividing all my stuff up between 2 houses, I really don't know where it is--LOL.

I DO use: KA mixer, blender, coffee maker (even though none of us drink coffee. It's great for making iced tea), toaster.

I forgot about the George Foreman grill..there's TWO of them stashed away in that corner of never used stuff.
They were DH's, and when I moved in he wouldn't give them up, so I just tossed them in the back of the cabinet.

I couldn't think of anything till now. It's not an appliance, but I never use my mandoline.

I thought I would, but I just use a knife for everything, or my food processor.

I use all of my small appliances.. and if there happens to be one that I don't use for a year, out it goes.. I give it away. I just cannot clutter up my space with stuff just to have stuff. Let someone else use it or dust it.
I use my Kitchen Aid mixer nearly every day and my food processers too. I have a small one for small amounts and then the big honker for making large batches of stuff. I have a Quesadilla cooker that we use probably a couple times a month. I don't have a blender, because I can use my food processor to do anything a blender can do. I had a potato machine that makes curly fries. I use that when I wan to make home made fries. I have a couple of crock pots of differnt sizes.. Use those often as well. and an electric deep fryer that I use for frying chicken and fish.

So, anything I have, I use or it is outta here and off to a home where it becomes someone elses responsibility..

Just one more appliance story. One Christmas I gave SIL a mini-food processor. She said it didn't work and gave it back to me. I gave her some money in exchange but couldn't find the receipt so I was stuck with it. This past summer I plugged it in and it worked just fine, and I love it. It holds about a cup. But that's enough for me and DH. Great for chopping onions,etc.
