Has anyone used an elder law attorney?

I consulted with an elder law attorney when my DH was about to enter a nursing home. The way he worked was to charge nothing for the initial consultation, and then charged a flat fee for setting up a plan for me and helping me implement it.

Now that I've passed retirement age (although I'm still working part-time), I'd like to talk to an elder law attorney about my own situation. For various reasons, I don't want to use the first one again, so I'm looking for someone else. So far just one has been recommended to me. He charges $250 for the initial consultation. I want good, solid advice, so I'm prepared to pay for it. Therefore, fees are not the only factor. But I'm wondering how other lawyers in this specialty handle it.

What has been your experience?
