No, I don't have one. Mine's a zillion years old with handles on either end. I'd like one like they use on Food TV. It's just a long, narrow "tube". They look easy to use. Storing it may be another story, however.

Sure - they're called "dowel" pins.
I prefer them because I find them easier to control, especially with large pieces of dough.
Also use a dowel style(plastic) for fondant covered cakes.

I also have a marble pin, but it's the type with the handles at the ends.

i have tried a tapered one but it didn't work for me like my old wood one w/ handles on the side (my moms) lol. i think it didn't for 2 reasons, 1 i am short and do have proper height counters for me so i can't get good pressure on it and 2 i have alot of problems w/ the bones in my hands/fingers and arthritus so i can't put much pressure on it w/ my hands anyway. i love my old one thou! i do think it looks cool sitting in my wooden spoon and gadget crock thou lol. ~ liz

I cannot stand using the rolling pins with handles and ball bearings. The ONLY pins I use are the French style. I have several of them, actually, different thicknesses and use them for rolling: bread dough, pastries, cookies, noodles.

I honestly think, that if you get one, and give yourself time to get used to it, you'll never go back to the 'spinny' ones again. Yes, as someone said, you have more control. Also, a French pin never gets bogged down, but a ball-bearing pin often stalls if it gets stuck on the dough. For what it's worth, I find I most often reach for the thinner of my French pins (it's probably about 1.5" thick at the thickest part).

I just use a cheapo rolling pin with handles... but I am well known to make very good pastry. I've thought of getting a better one, but I don't know where I'd store it and I seem to do ok without it anyway.

I bought my best, large rolling pin with handles at a restaurant supply store. It is nice and heavy. I would not buy one of those little ones they sell these days. I also bought a tapered, handleless French rolling pin as a souvenir on a trip to Paris 37 years ago. I recently gave it to my older son who has developed a strong interest in cooking. I used to love browsing a 2nd hand restaurant supply store for deals, and that rolling pin is one of them.

My mother and grandmother used a clear wine bottle for a rolling pin (depression years). I remember when Mom got a real one with handles. I wanted to play with it.

The hispanic ladies that I know use one that looks like it was cut from a broom handle to roll tortillas. They go really fast with them.

I love my tapered rolling pin. Once I got that I never used the one with handles again. I don't know if I'd like one that is the same thickness end-to-end. One of the reasons I like mine (tapered) is because it doesn't make "lines" in the dough that I have to roll over.

I know you like to cook, but honestly I'm tired of it. I don't want a rolling pin, even if it is a Vic Firth. Your husband WANTS you to have a VF rolling pin! So funny!

DS will get a kick out of this. He was drumming with one of my knitting needles last night. He just cannot stop. Watch out if your husband gets TWO rolling pins--he may want to try them out as big drumsticks for a new sound!

I have one with no handles, an old one with light green handles, another old one with red handles and my favorite is a small one with a metal handle that has a tiny "2 1/2 inch" at the other end. That's the one I use all the time.

I have a few rolling pins. My favorite is a very large one with handles. I bought it many years ago used, for $3.00. I thought at the time it was a lot of money to spend on a rolling pin. I have a glass one, a plastic one, a marble one and 2 or 3 more wooden ones. I don't think I would like the kind you are talking about to roll out my pie or roll dough as I am so used to the one I use most of the time.

Another rolling pin I bought in Paris is handleless too. It is about 2 inches in diameter, quite long, and almost round but ever so slightly oval.

I got mine as a wedding gift 56 yrs ago (Labeled a Husband Tamer, LOL) It has handles and ball bearings. I haven't used it in years. I bought one at a Pampered Chef party about 10 yrs ago it is like a paint roller with a larger (abt 5") roller on one end and a smaller one( about 3") on the other. Haven't used that one much either.

I have a French one...made of maple. It is wonderful, and has created untold amounts of piecrust! I have a number of other ones, but that one is my favorite!

My Dad made me a rolling pin out of ash wood many years ago, for Christmas. I lost my Dad in 1998, so every time I touch that rolling pin I get tears in my eyes. I keep it in a closet, where it's handy. But I wish I could find a display hanger.

I have 2 that were my great grandma's. They have handles, but are solid wood and don't move. I love them and even let the kids use them for play dough. The one that I have is like the link.
