I go away this weekend with 10 girls to Traverse City, Michigan. We stay at Sugar loaf Ski Resort. One of the girls family owns a condo so we stay for free. We go to casino,a local small bar, Winery Tour, play games, shop and gab. I will be gone 4 days. I CAN'T WAIT!! I made a "special" new drink for a night we stay in and play games. Thought I would share the recipe for the new drink I made. I just had a little glass of it and it taste just like a piece of Apple Pie.

Apple pie Shots/drink

INGREDIENTS

Â 1 gallon apple juice

Â 1 gallon apple cider

Â 3 cups white sugar

Â 8 cinnamon sticks

Â 1 (750 milliliter) bottle 151 proof grain alcohol

DIRECTIONS

1. In a large pot, combine apple juice, apple cider, sugar and cinnamon sticks. Bring to a boil, then remove from heat and let cool completely. I let it boil a little longer so it thicken up a bit.

2. When juice mixture is cool, Stir in the grain alcohol.

3. Store in glass bottles in Refrigerator

Judy, Wow!!! a four day all girl slumber party!!!! That's going to be so much fun!!! Your apple pie drink sounds delicious. I hope y'all have a great time.

I decided to repot them all into a better mix and better groups last Friday, I didn't want to water them in to a mix that wasn't good to I did a more thorough root cleaning and a better foundation. The jades have their own home now. The semp will spend the winter all alone in a very frosty south window in the basement. I don't know what else to do with it and not sure if it can go outside in my zone over the winter or if I wld have enough time to harden off it off. If it should perish....I plan to redeem myself with a succulent rock garden in it memory. We bought a house last year with a south facing yard and have tons of landscaping rocks on 3 sides and an island of them in the back. We both really, really, don't like all these rocks, but where can we put them all?? Is it a blessing in disguise? After reading so much in the forum I feel like I know you all a little, everyone is so nice and helpful, so I will share another picture of what I have in store for my gardening future. I have so many ideas! My DH is a farmboy in the city so we will have some fun. Mr. B says hi! All the leaves dropped in a week, we had some drought then some snow. I got a fire pit and tree skirts as wedding present from DH. He did it while I was away for the weekend. How do you say, "Thank you, I love you so much and I hate tree skirts? You don't, everyone worked so hard and filled it full of flowers! I hope to use some of that labor for helping in the garden when we get one. Did I mention it faces south? All I will do all winter is research, plan, discuss. 2 year, 5 year, 10 year, etc. I hope to share my progression either here or somewhere on these forums, this IS where the experts are at!

At this time of the year I will let my feeders go 4 to 5 days-especially since I do not even have any birds yet. As long as it is in the 50 to 60+ degree daytime temperature range that is very safe. Some people go longer than that-but I never do. I must say that in July and August when we are in the 90 degree range I change my feeders daily. I do not have many shady places for my feeders so it is a must for me to change daily. I will have a total of seven feeders up in late may on to the end of the season, because I have so many birds feeding and most are very territorial. Believe me it is a chore to change 7 feeders daily-but well worth it as my feeders are so popular. If you have just a couple of favorite hummingbird plants(butterfly bush or quince or trumpet vine) you are very much more likely to have hummers. If you have some good plants for them they WILL find your feeders. May you have a yardfull this year! Vicki

For snappers, the Oklahoma Dept. of Wildlife site says: 20 to 40 eggs are typically deposited...the eggs hatch after an incubation period of roughly 100 days (though it can range from 55-125 days depending on temperature and humidity). It didn't look like what we call a "box turtle," so I'm thinking it may have been a snapper. I wanted to go back out and take a picture of her, but I was afraid of spooking her! I pass the nest on the way to the mailbox, so I'll be able to monitor it all summer. :-) I'm so glad you all share my jubilation at such small wonders. It just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy to witness this stuff! And it sounds like you've all seen your share of "nature in progress." (Cool pics, Brenda!) A few years ago, we caught this...we call them a "locust" around here, but I think they are called something else other places.

Ok. I LOVE your carpet choice. It is beautiful. However...I am not sure that what you would find wool easy to care for. You can’t use a vacuum with a beater bar...it will shred the fibers and cause pilling, reducing the life of the carpet. You have to be careful when you clean it, too. I grew up in a home with wool carpeting. My mother used an Electrolux carpet sweeper. It had a wand, NOT a beater bar. I made the mistake of replacing a nylon plush carpet on my stairs and upstairs hall with a gorgeous loop wool carpet. I ended up ripping it all out after only 3 years. Vacuuming it was difficult, and keeping the stairs clean at the pivot points was a nightmare. (And was just my husband and me, and our shoes were off at the door, too.). Replaced it with a short pile nylon carpet. The other issue with very flat weave carpets is seaming. They often show. What is the width of your carpet? Where will the seams be placed??? Flat pile carpets show seams more than those with pile. Just saying.... I hate being negative about this, but...

dang! don't walk off into lake michigan with that one, lol...if the weather holds, drive up 22 to northport, and visit the lighthouse...dil's mom has a weekend house up there...

Discovered this one last year, and WOW delicious!

Caramel Apple Cocktail

6 servings
1 tablespoon cinnamon sugar
1 lemon wedge
1 1/2 cups apple cider
6 tablespoons butterscotch schnapps
1 (750 ml) bottle sparkling wine, chilled
6 maraschino cherries

*After dipping the glasses in the cinnamon, I put them in the freezer to chill

Spread cinnamon sugar onto a small plate or saucer. Run the lemon wedge along the rim of 6 champagne glasses, then dip the rims into the cinnamon sugar.
Combine apple cider and schnapps in a measuring cup.
Divide evenly among prepared glasses. Divide sparkling wine among glassses.
Garnish with cherry.

Judy that sounds like so much fun. It'd be fun for a bunch of us to meet somewhere like that and have a get together, or weekend meet. My sister does that with a group of gals on her forum. They usually go to the East Coast somewhere.

Oooh..they do sound good. DIL to be is having her bridal party and us moms over for a bbque and drinks in a few weeks to help wrap the table favors for the reception tables. I may just make one of for the night!

The apple pie sounds good this time of year. My sister used to make peppermint patties that were also very good. Hot chocolate topped off with creme de menthe and whipped cream. Mom used to make "pink reindeer" drinks. I think they had red Hawaiian punch, orange juice, pineapple juice, and ginger ale. No booze for the kiddies but some kind of booze for the adults but I don't remember what kind. They were topped with whipped cream, shaved nuts, and a cherry. They looked beautiful.

Dotmom used to make a wonderful shaved ice daquiri-type drink with pineapple.
