Whether your dinner is noon or evening, what's on your table today, Monday?

Mine is noonish, and it's my main meal for the day, so it's dinner for me.

Drove to Hartley's Down Home Cooking for chicken 'n dressing casserole and green beans.

Then home for a nap! Yawn!

What do you put in your gumbo, raven?

I like the works, but only had that once in Ft Walton. Best gumbo I ever had. Seafood gumbo, that is!!

I think I'd like to be one of those cars that hasn't been invented yet, a speedy little thing with great pickup, and plenty of room inside to carry all your friends as you go zipping around the countryside, and totally solar-powered. With a titanium finish, of course. I'd like to think that reality is that I'm very much like my old Mazda: a car sedate in appearance with superb craftmanship hidden under the hood, that was equally at ease plodding along city streets or flying low on the open road. It was a good car, hard-working, reliable, fulfilling all hopes, and living twice as long as the best expectation. We're both old and creaky now, and sometimes it takes two tries to get the engine started; our finish has crackled, and our innards need replacing, but we still plod along the city streets, and dream of flying on the open road.

Dprothy, That's a lot of rain. I think ours was only about 53" for 2009 but haven't added it all up and that would not be a record for our county. And, of course, for us 53" was a whole lot, especially compared to 2008, when we received just under 23". You're in Adair County, right? I've linked your county's one-page climate survey from the Oklahoma Climatological Survey, and it shows your county's record rainfall at just over 80" way back in 1927. Other climate data compiled at the state and county level is available to everyone at the OK Mesonet website and at the website of the Oklahoma Climatological Survey. Hi goils! Besh--your MIL is in my thoughts and prayers---(((hugs)))!! How is Happyto? I was thinking about her a while back, and was hoping that things were good for her-- Tikanas--happy belated birthday! :):) Well, I got the auction--I signed it on Monday, and have a good chance to maybe get the real estate--it's been rezoned as commercial, so it would be a goooood thing for me--and I'd appreciate any and all good thoughts for me to get this--it can literally change my life-- Things are good here--the weather is great--I can't believe it's this nice--78, and low humidity. Raeanne--since you liked my sticky chicken mishap, I think you'll enjoy this one--I decided in June to enter a cake in the KY State Fair (which started here on Thurs). So I sent off the $, got the rules, and waited until last Sunday morning to make the cake (it was due by Mon at 5pm, but I had to work...). Let me preface all of this by saying that I have never made this cake before--I found the recipe in a box of stuff that I bought at an auction(now, **that's** a surprise!), and so therefore had no idea just what I was walking into. On Sat night, after getting out of the bath, with wet hair and no makeup, I realize that I need a bottle of bourbon--well, actually, just 2 tablespoons. So, off the the liquor store I go, and find an airplane bottle of Maker's Mark, and then realize that I have no cash. So, I charged $2.50. I was sooo embarrassed. Anyway, I got up at 6am on Sun morning to preheat the oven, and off I go. I'm just a mixin and a stirin, and raisin all sorts of h3ll, and I pour the batter into 3 brand-new 9" pans, and they go into to the over for 45 minute. DING! They're done--whhoooboy--they are done--burned on the bottom, that is. I'm standing in the middle of the kitchen, hot, tired, and just bawling. I was just so mad--and I had a raging case of PMS to top it all of, and poor ol Rog--didn't know whether to hug or to laugh. He wisely chose to hug, and then told me that we can cut the botteom of the layers off, and noone would ever know (true.) So that was our plan. Now--to top all of this off, the entry department opened at noon, and I was supposed to be at work at an auction at noon, so I had to keep an eye on the time. I made the frosting following the directions, and dumped into way to much powdered sugar, which gave it that funny, sugar-y taste, so then I added more bananas, which changed the texture. THEN--my cat decided to love me as I was dropping in the yellow food coloring (did I mention that this is a banana cake?), which made my icing look like a horrible mustard color (made worse by the fact that it had lumpy stuff like toasted coconut and chopped pecans in it), only sicker. What a freaking mess---I wanted to throw the d@mned thing aqgainst the wall, but managed to refrain. I iced it, and it is sitting on my countertop, glowing like a d@mned lighthouse. Sigh..... I've already posted the coral fabric a couple of days ago; see above. It won't look any different with the fringe applied. I cannot believe no one has commented on my white (but not antique white) windows (or mantel). I have to paint those still. I've been waiting to paint them until I removed the old drapery rod. Now I can do it. Good news today: Calico Corners extended its 25% off fabric sale through 1/26, so I have time to wait for my samples to arrive before committing to the RL Foxberry plaid. I would get it somewhere else and feel less pressured, but CC's price is more than $20 less than even places in fabric row here in the city because I've been told that CC has special RL pricing (on top of which I can get the 25% off). I ordered a bunch of memos of the discontinued fabric from Robert Allen today. They have to be sent from SC, so it'll probably take a few business days.

I will be eating a little later than usual tonight as my landlord's helper is in/out getting parts for the 'john'. He's such a nice young man.

My meal is in the evening and it is supper to me. I had another busy day. Cheryl and I visited Terri and took her some things. Then we came home and picked tomatoes. We hope to can juice tomorrow. My supper was just pancakes. Lunch was a double hamburger with cheese from Hardee's. We had a coupon. Nice weather, cool and pleasant to be in the garden.

We had a big hamburger on a pretzel roll at Ruby Tuesday's after we did the tile thing. Finally got the tile. They had it in stock so we had the car loaded up and brought it home. Our contractor is so pleased. Next week it all begins. Will be glad when it's over. Now, I have to start on tomorrow nights meal. I probably won't be able to check in tomorrow, Glenda so I'll tell you now, we're having A cheese ball that I made last night, some spinach balls, maybe (freezer) or some Roquefort grapes for appetizers. Teriyaki flank steak, marinated asparagus, mushrooms and red peppers and Sweet potato fries (I'm not frying them actually, I'm roasting them. Caesar salad and for dessert, pound cake with strawberries marinated in Grand Marnier. I'm going to get the marinade ready now and prepare the veggies than I have a little bit of cleaning to do. I'll be happy when next week comes. I think I can slow down a bit then.

got out one of my pre-cooked pork loin...added peas and mashed...have enough left for pulled pork bbq tomorrow for our lunches...

Hey, we're playing canasta, Thursday instead of Mexican train! BYO sandwich, but I am gonna make sweet and salty snack. You got a good one that requires NO baking???

I did the candy corn, chex mix and peanuts week before last.

I made a pork roast in the slow cooker. Rubbed garlic on it, then slathered it with a rub of brown sugar, dijon and balsamic vinegar. Cooked it for 6-7 hours, and had it with roasted potatoes, carrots and onions. I thickened the sauce and served it with alongside.
It was delicious!

Glenda, I thought about you today because I made some pimento cheese spread and had it on crackers for lunch today.

Ah, yes Carol, pimento cheese on crackers.

I had a friend, that left us last year, and I knew her for almost 15 years and she had pimento cheese sandwich for lunch every day.

On my lunch hour I put in a pot roast..came home to done..

Bout time to make some gravy and simmer it to reheat...and put on some potatoes...and a veg.

Dh is smoking a whole turkey.. .we will be eating this for days. I am making risotto and salad to go with it and raspberry chocolate mousse for dessert.

Veggies all prepared, marinade made, strawberries cut up and marinating, just have to make some croutons and tear up the lettuce for the salad. Cellulitis seems to be clearing up. I was so lucky to catch it so early. Bitten on Thursday, started meds on Friday. Meds making me a little woozy. Talked to a friend today and she said her husband was playing golf a few years ago, bent down to pick up a twig, it had thorns on it, scratched his arm, got
cellulitis, but like me, knew nothing about it and didn't have it checked for days. Wound up in the hospital, said the pain was so bad if they couldn't give him something for it they should just cut off his arm! Glad for once in my life I listened to someone. LOL

Haven't played canasta in 50 years. Sounds like fun. Know you were kidding about bridge, but actually, I was suppose to have it here today. Had to cancel. Good thing because I wasn't planning on having to go to Richmond today. Maybe I'm getting too old to have so much fun!

Everyone's dinner sounds yummy. I love to read this post. Get some ideas but most of all like to hear that everyone takes a night off and has either breakfast for dinner or an every man for himself night. Thanks for taking over for Patti, Glenda....and Patti, thinking of you and Harry and saying prayers for better days ahead.

cwnev, smoking whole turkey brings back memories when exH would smoke one for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

And turkey sandwiches afterwards with lettuce and mayo, yummy!

georgysmom, I haven't played canasta, probably 30 plus years. Same as bridge. Went on line to read the instructions, and my mind was blank!

I made a big pot of totilla soup. It came out soooo good. And I have leftovers, even better!

Everyone's meals sound great, I wouldn't turn down any of them, haha.

Oh my, first I have to say, I am beyond flattered Glenda. Honestly. o.k. here's the recipe as given to me, I'll put in parentheses the amts. I used.

1/4 or 1 stick butter (I used not quite 2)
1/4 c. flour (Heaping 1/4 c. scoop)
3 c. chicken broth (I used a 48 oz. can)
1 c. milk (I used approx. 1 1/4, or so)
8 oz. Velveeta (I used about 10 or 11 oz.)
1 10-oz can rotel, mild (I used 2)
2 c. cooked chicken (I used 3 13-oz. cans of ck, usually
just use a rotisserie ck)
1 t. cumin (I didn't have any, so none this time)
1 t. chili powder (I used 2, usually use 1 and 1 cumin)
S&P to taste
Nachos
Shredded sharp cheddar cheese, or your choice.

Make a rue 3 melted butter & flour, cook 3 min.
Whisk in chicken broth.
Slowly add milk, stir.
Add Velveeta, stir til melted,
Add rotel, chicken and spices.

Serve in a bowl with crushed nachos and shredded cheese on top.

You can also use the medium or hot rotel, I'm too much of a sissy to have it too hot, haha. I used 3 cans of ck coz I was feeding a couple guys also, not just me. Using the canned chicken it took me maybe 15 minutes to make this.
