news flash!

Marilyn just called.....her horses and possums are all fine. Some of the cages were upended but animals are all okay. Her house is standing, no water or wind damage to it. The trees aree still standing, too, although she said one on the road to the house was down so her and Nara are going to get a chainsaw and clean it up. Her yard is full of broken limbs and leaves that she will have to clean up, but all in all she said everything is fine!

Ken's property will need cleaning up in the yard but no major damage there, either.

Marilyn may stay another night or two with Nara, she hasn't fully decided yet. The main thing is the animals are fine. She will be back on-line when the power is restored.

Oh, and she has been in contact with Jody, who is in the Lake Charles area, and he is okay, too!

Marilyn said thank you all for being so caring.

News Flash! Moore Spotted in Colorado Pond
Q

Yes, I agree the Moore IS a goldfish so I don't know why it would need special treatment. Looking at it that way. Just for some reason I had always been told the "fancies" like Orandas, Moores, other Fantails, Pearl Scales, etc, those were "non-hardy" types and unsuited to ponds. The Moore ended up in the pond last summer because he was nibbling the tail of an Oranda in the indoor 20 gal. tank. We moved him out because we thought it unlikely he could catch up with the big Shubunkin or Koi and take a nibble! And he has not... nibbled anyone. Interestingly outdoors he likes to hang around with the smallest fry the best. And they hang around him too. The big fish totally ignore him, like he is invisible to them.

PUDDING CUPS: I buy these from time to time for my kids, and the plastic is recycleable in my area, but before I toss in the bin I use them several times each in the summer to make bigger ice cubes for packing coolers or filling the big water jug on outings (or cooling the water for when I am freezing beans/corn), or cut holes in the bottoms and use as little planting pots for some of the seeds I start for my garden. Since they are clear I can tell when cuttings have rooted well. Thanks for coming forward, all of you, and pointing out that although many are striving to be energy wise and cutting back on waste, it is difficult to do it all and still live our lifestyle the way we've been used to. Just today dh took kids into the bigger city close by to buy them shoes, and I asked him to pick up milk on the way home. Pick up milk he did, and he let the clerk bag both jugs! I will speak to him later on this, I don't think he is aware he can ask for his items to NOT be bagged (I do 99% of the shopping in this household, and just assumed he knew how I felt about those plastic bags). Or that anything that size WITH a handle needs no bag! Oh well. I'm still trying to influence change within my own little world (family). kioni

I'm guessing that it is not terribly difficult. Firefox sometimes asks if I wish to start where "it thinks" that it got shut down incorrectly the last time I had the computer running.
