My car was

18 years ago

broken into last night. I went out this morning and when I opened the door, I found cassette tapes all over the drivers seat. The glove compartment had been opened and tapes strewn around. A few other compartments had been opened as well. I don't keep change in the car. I'm presuming that is what they were looking for.

I have a 2002 Hyundai Accent. Does anyone know if this could have an alarm system put on it and would it be a very big job and big expense?

They must have been pretty well trained as I see no marks, left. Someone tried to get into it one other time and left a lot of marks and I don't think they succeeded then.

sorry to hear that Ivamae.

My van was broken into about 6 wks ago now...it too was vandalized,nothing interesting for them I suppose.

They did however take all of my groceries that were just put in for the next mornings camping trip...hope they enjoyed them,the thieving *&^&*(*&'s.

I know nothing about alarm systems tho...good luck!

The last time I had a breakin...was my husbands Expedition...it had keyless entry...was locked and the alarm was on...they were in and out in seconds and made quite a haul...so I guess if they want in...their gonna find a way...I think it would be pretty cost prohibitive to put in an alarm system after market...but if it makes you feel better by all means do...I pray Karma gets your robbers...

***SIGH*** I hear you! Where I "used" to live in PA,we could go away for a week and let the door unlocked.Here...we had to put up locked gates because the freaks back the alley have teenagers that think it's ok to walk in my carport and take...my lawnmower and our tools when they need money.We learned the hard way that this isn't our small hometown....now we lock everything up.Wonder what the kids back the alley are doing for money these days? Brats! Then they come past and say"good Evening" real sweet! Grrrrr! The neighbor saw them taking my stuff ,I should have called the cops but he wasn't SURE which kid it was.There are about 5 of them back there.More on any given day. Cops are always back there.Only bad family on our street! (Of course there's only 5 houses here counting the one on the corner.)

"make sure you change your oil regularly" I'm not going to comment about what practices auto makers have concerning their warranty coverage but from the standpoint of a car owner, oil level is far more important than regularity of changes. Many cars today use synthetic oil and while any oil gets dirty over time, synthetic oil's ability to do its job doesn't degrade the way petroleum based engine lubricants do. For many cars, burning a little oil in normal use can be expected. It's not unusual for a car to need to have some oil added in between regular oil changes. After hard conditions - a lot of stop and go driving, or high highway speeds especially. A low oil level will do more harm, more quickly, than being a few months or thousands of miles (or kilometers) past the change schedule. The message is - check your oil regularly when the engine is cold and especially before a trip. Double check to have the right grade and type of oil on hand to add when needed, before it's needed.

Hi folks, I want to inform you of how things ended with my fender that was hit by an honest person who left a note in my car with her phone number. After getting estimates of $1500 or more from two auto body shops, I decided to try the guy who installed a sideview mirror for me which I bought on eBay, after the original one was hit by someone who did not have the decency to leave me a note. This auto body mechanic said that he could repair the existing fender for $450.00. In other words, I did not have to order a new one. I informed the woman who hit my car and she had no problem with the estimate. The fender got fixed yesterday. I'm really glad that I did not have to go through the woman's insurance and that it was a much lower cost for her. This was my way of saying thanks for being honest by leaving me a note, admitting that she hit me, rather than just fleeing since I was not around when it happened. I had simply parked my car on a street near my home (I do not have a driveway). I'm attaching before and after photos below.

after market alarms are cheap, usually under $200 installed, compared to dealing w/ break-ins. you can get them at best buy or other electronic's sellers. i think you can also order them from Crutchfield and have someone mildly knowledgeable in electronics install it. i am psychotic about people breaking into my car, i never leave anything of value to anyone else but people will still try...i have both a dealer installed alarm and after market one ~ liz
