I had Blue Princess one season. Bought it in July and it bloomed until the end of the season but didn't come back for me but that's not unusual for me either. I don't have the knack for the spreading perennial ones evidently. I thought I had lost my Blue Mist from last year but it appears that it's trying to come back from the roots- away from the original plant. Maybe they're seedlings? They don't look like V. bon seedlings anyway so I'm hoping.

I dont have an Aglaia yet. I read it smells like lemon right? I was at a Hispanic supermarket the other day and noticed in the produce section what I thought were Telosma flowers. It was labled as 'loroco' and quite pricey being imported from El Salvador. I know in the Asian groceries here, the price is also just as much for Telosma flowers. My mother never made anything with Telosma flowers before, I do know it's used in her native country and the rest of Southeast Asia. But anyways, turns out 'loroco' is a different plant called Fernaldia pandurata. I wonder if it is also quite fragrant (they were young flower buds sealed in a plastic container so I couldn't smell them). Of course I will make a post when either of them bloom. Btw, here's a picture of my M. figo from last year. I believe that there are several different clones of M. figo in the trade. Though only slight in variation. I notice in mines, the inner tepals are about half the width of the outer tepals. Where as I notice other plants have tepals widths that are not as extreme between the inner and outer tepal.

Mine have not done well at all this year. I have 3, and in differant locations. My DH saw a bloom or two on one. I haven't seen any. I presume it is because of the hard spring freeze...but you would think all the rains we have had would have brought them on. :-( Maybe the voles have eaten their roots! The year that they did best they did rebloom during the summer. I seldom cut them back, but did after the freeze. Hopefully they will surprise me with fall blooms. I see beautiful ones in other people's yards.

It all depends on a variety of factors, as joelq has indicated...size of pool (amount of water to turn over), capacity of equipment (determines how fast your water turns over), amount of sun on the pool (more sun means your chlorine doesn't last as long), CYA level (determines how well your chlorine "holds"), SWCG setting, and pump run time. Then, there are all the other variables like when you run your pump, efficiency of your filter, cleanliness of your filter, bather load, whether or not you use a cover, and how much other debris gets into the pool. So, it's very hard to compare pools in different settings with different challenges in different parts of the country. How does your pool look? How are your testing numbers? If it's all good, then you could try backing off of the pump run time (and/or reduce your SWCG setting) a bit and see how it goes...but be sure to keep testing your water. Keep good notes of your changes and, over time, you'll see where you can keep your pool happy and reduce your energy bills as well. I'm in just my 2nd year with this pool and I'm still learning and tweaking. Currently, I'm at 10 total hours split into 3 different intervals. As the air temps are going up over 100, if my chlorine doesn't hold, I can either increase the pump time, increase my SWCG setting, increase my CYA level, or simply supplement chlorine for awhile with bleach. But the key is to keep testing so I know what the pool needs.
