Two random acts of kindness I received: I had a car with a bad radiator, it was constantly overheating. I distinctly remember the last 2 times it broke down. The first, I was driving home from work on a Long Island parkway, and it overheated and broke down. I coaxed the car onto the shoulder. Within minutes, a man pulled up behind me, said he had a container with him, and would go get me some water for the radiator. He came right back, added the water and made sure I was able to drive the car. The last time I had driven to Newark Airport in New Jersey to take a plane home to Buffalo to see my parents for Christmas. When I returned from my trip, I couldn't start the car. This time the battery was dead. Again, a man saw my distress and offered to jump-start it. I had jumper cables but no idea how to use them. "No Problem" he said, and he hooked them up and got my car started. I offered him a few bucks, but he wouldn't take it. I distinctly remember these 2 incidents because both men were of a race other than mine. Had I seen either of them in distress, I would have callously driven by.

I was in line for McDonald's drive thru and let the lady in the other lane go ahead of me. When I got to the window to pay she had already paid for my lunch.

My other half does it quite often. The one I remember the best was several years ago. It was a very COLD, snowy day and we had gone out for Chinese. In to the restaurant came 2 soaking wet and COLD boys that had been out shoveling snow to make some money. The were off to the side counting their money to see if they had enough for the buffet. They did but barely from what we could hear. As we left SO paid for their dinner and told the girl to tell them that was because they were good kids for working so hard. I hope they remember that and pass it on someday.

Kath, being a nurse you do acts of kindness everyday that go beyond the job. You just do it without even thinking about it.

Last winter I had taken my mom to Virginia to shop. When we came out of the mall, I had a flat tire. As soon as we noticed it, a nice young guy that pulled up near us saw it, too! He took the tire off and rolled it over to the Walmart next door and then waited until it was fixed and put the tire back on. He would not take a penny. His girlfriend was there also and she said that's just the kind of guy he is. I told her not to let him get away! Hopefully they have set a wedding date. :)

Several years ago I was alone and having Thanksgiving dinner at Cracker Barrel I chatted with many of the neighboring tables and we had a lot of laughs.
They left before me. When I went to pay th bill I found out one of the couples had paid mine. I caugh up with them in the parking lot and thanked them over and over again.
They were from out of town and happy o make someone happy.

Onc I returned a kindness. I was paying for my dinner at Golden Corral and the young fellow in front of me was getting a take out. It was for his wife who had just given birth to a little boy. I picked up his tab.

Just today we were at Petsmart stocking up on canned cat food by the case...19 cases to be exact. The male clerk dug under the counter and got out coupons....19 of them, to give me a discount on each case which saved us a lot. I thanked him profusely.

Several months ago I had gone into a store and it was not raining. When I came out it was pouring. A lady yelled at me "Wait!", came with her umbrella and walked me to the car.

This wasn't exactly random but a few months ago I witnessed a car hit a brand new car in the parking lot outside my work, and the guys just parked and walked away. He hit it really hard so he obviously knew he had done it.

I walked up to the new car and it had huge scratches on it. So I left a note for the owner with my info saying I had witnessed it, and I took a bunch of pics of her car (and his car) on my cell phone. The woman called me when she got back to her car and I got her email and forwarded her all the pictures and a statement of what I witnessed. Her insurance company called me the next day and I forwarded it all to them also.

Anyway, I forgot all about it and a few weeks later the lady showed up at my work with a card and a box of fancy chocolates for me! She had gone into the few businesses around our block to figure out where I worked. She asked all about my work (a non-profit that houses homeless people) and she took my card and said she would also make a donation! She was so sweet and appreciate about the small kindness I had done her!

It comes back to you exponentially!

I've experienced a number of them, but two involved policeman. The first, I was heading home and got a flat tire. A police car came up behind me and asked me to pull off the road. I thought he was going to give me a ticket, but instead, he changed my tire for me! The second one was a year ago just before the fourth of JUly. My DS was coming to visit and I was busy loading up on groceries. My mind was on all the errands I had to do not on the speedometer. All of a sudden, I hear a police siren and I pull over. The officer said "did you realize you were doing 62 in a 45 mile zone?" I said 62? in a shocked voice. He took my license and went back to his car for a long while. I figured it was going to cost me a small fortune. When he came back, he handed me back my license, said I see you're from around here and know the speed limit so please follow it in the future and that was it. I thought that was REAL kind!

In the last 7 years since my husband got hurt at work and then had a stroke, money has been such a problem for us.Just trying to keep our bills paid has been a huge struggle....one day in the mail was an envelope with thirty dollars in it and a note that just said that they thought so much about us. I never did find out who sent it, but it helped buy groceries that day!

When my niece was only six months old, my sister bought an inexpensive swing set at WalMart. We tried to put it together in the back yard, but got hopelessly confused. Then we went on vacation, leaving everything lying in the yard. (Not smart, I know, but we were *so* frustrated.)

When we came home a week later, the whole thing was put together. We knew who it was - our next-door neighbor. It was SO WONDERFUL!!!

Lots and lots of them! A man gave us the keys to his house, after we visited with him and then asked him about the nearby campground.

He "had to finish" his walk, doctors orders.

We stayed at his house.

Several other people let me overnight at their house, on my long bike tours. A couple women paid for my lunch in a restaurant.

I just gave a young woman 20 bucks, when she realized, she couldn't use her credit card at the bike event on Sunday. she is planning on mailing me a check.

There are so many nice people in this world.

There are so many kind deeds in the Minot area due to the flooding. Out of 11,000 people evacuated, less than 300 needed Red Cross Shelters. Many people took families in who they did not even know. And many are still there. A big shelter was set up for pets and just closed and only 4 pets needed new places the last day. Others either had been returned to their owners, or adopted out by the owners request. 3 schools are now meeting in churches, Minot auditorium or at the fair grounds. Teachers from all over donated many many supplies to the teachers who lost so much. The Salvation Army gave out hundreds of free meals to volunteers and flood victims. And the list goes on. We are go grateful to the Black Eye Peas for donating the proceeds of their concert, over 1,000,000.00 to the recovery fund.

In the Buffalo NY Blizzard of 1977, several teachers from the local elementary school walked to my parents house (a half mile) and stayed overnight till the roads were cleared. Just had to show what great folks raised me. What goes around, comes around.

Yes, recently from KT friends sending me cookbooks and things for the grandbaby and would not hear of taking anything even for the postage. There are more good people in the world than bad in my opinion.

As a teenager (no cellphones back then) I was helped many times when my car broke down or I had a flat tire. I've had people here at the KT tape a couple TV show episodes for me, send seeds, that sort of thing and never ask for payment.

My husband has pulled so many people out of ditches, brought them gas and even drove one ladies car for her (I don't recall the circumstances of that) and never accepted payment. Once he even put up a roof antenna on a woman's house after she had bought it at our garage sale for $10. That one I wasn't so happy about! I could have used help and he was gone all day doing that! lol
