If you had a new kitten that was found in a cemetery...

What would YOU name her? She's about 5 months old, spayed, came from the vet's office where she's been for about a month. A calico, lots of nice white and then the mottled gray and orange. She has a little smudge of pale orange on her upper lips, under her nose.

My first inclination was Tombstone. Then Digger. Then Latte, for the smear on her upper lip area. (It was Gobbler Cemetery, but I don't want to name her Gobbler or Turkey.)

Oh, I saw her last week in a kennel and wanted her, but Woody said no because he had just brought home a stray puppy and we're in chaos. I was mad at first, disappointed, but then I got over it as our chaos goes on. Then he had to take said puppy in today because her spay incision is a little infected and he came home with the kitten, big surprise for me!

So the chubby little girl needs a name. Have you got any suggestions?

Love, love, LOVE Cats! There is NOTHING cuter than a kitten! Karen it's good that your Momma cat has nice warm, loving home in which to raise her babies. There's a feral female in our neighborhood that has kittens every year. It's heartbreaking. DH and I tried to trap her and her babies last spring. We wanted to get her spayed and eventually let her go again. We are in an apartment and pets are limited here. Anyway, she was too smart for us, but we ended up trapping one of her kittens. We watched in frustration as she sniffed around the trap, then gathered the rest of the litter and disappeared into the greenbelt. Needless to say, we kept the little guy and we love(and spoil)him. We've been beating ourselves up about not getting Mom cat, as she had a fall litter and I assume she's going to have another this spring. But at least we got one Tom off the street. All the authorities will do is transport any strays to the humane society after someone traps them and takes them to the local veterinary for a health check. At least the local humane society is a no-kill shelter. Many are not. Keep those pictures coming...we need those regular 'Awwww' fixes!

I've been out of town so am a little late to this party ;) Just thought I'd toss in my .02. I'm not a lawyer but am a landlord. I'm going to disagree to some extent with some posts here. I'm looking at it from my perspective and personally I feel like your landlord goofed, and is perhaps circling back to you to cover her mistakes. A lot of things that should have been put in writing were not. However, there are strong indicators of the direction this deal was taking. Allowing you to pay prorated rent for October is a big indicator that your landlord was not only aware of the fact that you were moving, she also approved a specific and premature (prior to lease expiration) 'end' date in October that your rent payment would cease. In other words it's not like you up and moved out under cloak of darkness ;) Clearly discussion and negotiation took place because a specific number of days for October rent was decided and agreed upon by both parties. Next she went so far as to secure a deposit from a different prospective tenant. It's true you're responsible for rent till your lease is up, but it's also true she needs to seek other occupants and secure them via a binding contract. She fell short here. I don't see that it matters whether she took $500 to 'hold' it or the same amount that she charged you for a deposit, because landlords can change deposit amounts from tenant to tenant, as long as it's not in violation of the ceiling dictated by State law. The dollar amount she took from them is not really your concern or burden to bear, that was her call to make and does not involve you because she's commencing a new agreement with entirely different parties involved. The fact is she took a deposit, released you early, but failed to obtain the most critical component: a signed, binding agreement with the new tenants. Big mistake. Deals fall through all the time. A deal is never sealed until all parties have signed on. I'm imagining myself standing in front of a judge explaining why I'm trying to now come back to worrywart for rents due and frankly, I think I'd be embarrassed. It would have been so easy to have a lease ready, signed when the deposit was collected, but not commence until 10/5. Then she could have officially let you know that you only needed to pay through 10/4, because a new lease was starting 10/5. She dropped that ball. So I'm thinking you're not entirely responsible at this point and that you do have recourse. The strongest indicator is the acceptance of the pro-rated rent, the second indicator is the deposit she got from the other couple. If your landlord failed to follow through and seal the deal with a signed lease with new tenants before letting you out, that's not really your burden to bear. That's how I see it anyway.

newhomeseeker, I do not think the mom will keep the kittens in two separate places The first few days a mom cat wont leave her kids for long, but as they are growing, they take longer sleeping breaks during feedings, during which time the mom cat would walk away, looking for food I think the best thing you can do is provide, if possible, a nice waterproof shelter...Maybe since the hay is wet, make another box for her? Mom cats do not want the kittens to be touched much and to be disturbed either....They are protective and paranoid, and reasonably so... Try offering a different box... And feed her really well - she needs extra nutrition. Get some goat's milk (canned is fairly cheap) and offer it to her, and lots of wet food... Get her spayed please, once the kittens can eat on their own! See if any rescue groups in your area do TNR - and if they can let you borrow a trap. Once she is trapped, maybe there are low cost spay neuter clinics in the area? A LOT of vets will give a price break to S/N a feral cat in a trap We are very lucky in Hillsborough County (Tampa, FL) We have a feral cat program and two low cost S/N clinics...Feral cats can be fixed for 10-25 dollars, depending on whether there is a grant available (with grant money, a caregiver pays 10 dollars per cat)

well low and behold she showed up. I would call her everynight as they say its in the evenings its heard more. This morning I decided to go up that long driveway and talk to the people, Well no one home at either, one house had four dogs barking. So I returned home and THERE WAS THE CAT ON MY DECK!!! I could not believe it. I took her in and she is loving it and has been sleeping ever since but gets up for meals. Just so you all know I am not looking for another cat I have two. But this cat found me and always came back. I will get it fixed KEEP IT IN and if someone is so bothered that its lost then put ads up!!! I did about a found cat and No responses. Plus who would let a kitten out in heat!!! There are Coyotes and bobcats here!!!!!!!!!

Maybe we'll spell it Gravey, get that E in there. :)

It'll probably be "Oh, My Gravey" after the cowboys from the last Amazing Race, they were so cute.

She was in a frenzy awhile ago and "Red Eye Gravey" came to mind! lol

She hasn't met the other cats yet. I don't want her hissed and spit at on day 1. She is slowly meeting the dogs, one by one. I like to assimilate new pets slowly. Not that it ever really helps. We're keeping her in our bathroom for now, but since she just used the litter box, I have her in the office with me, so she'll learn 2 rooms today. It's a lot of house for a wee kitten....not that our house is that big, but I don't just give them free rein.
